Prediction Accuracy of a Novel Dynamic Structure-Function Model for Glaucoma Progression

Purpose To assess the prediction accuracy of a novel dynamic structure-function (DSF) model to monitor glaucoma progression. Methods Longitudinal data of paired rim area (RA) and mean sensitivity (MS) from 220 eyes with ocular hypertension or primary open-angle glaucoma enrolled in the Diagnostic Innovations in Glaucoma Study or the African Descent and Glaucoma Evaluation Study were included. Rim area and MS were expressed as percent of mean normal based on an independent dataset of 91 healthy eyes. Some approximation properties of ( p , q ) $(p,q)$ -Bernstein operators

This paper is concerned with the $(p,q)$ -analog of Bernstein operators. It is proved that, when the function is convex, the $(p,q)$ -Bernstein operators are monotonic decreasing, as in the classical case. Also, some numerical examples based on Maple algorithms that verify these properties are considered. A global approximation theorem by means of the Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness and a Voronovskaja type theorem are proved.

This note offers new archival insight into a 1925 polemical exchange between Frank Knight and John Maurice Clark that was hosted in the pages of Journal of Political Economy. Although the exchange centered on the effects of overhead costs on marginal productivity theory and the so-called adding-up theorem, it also provided significant elements to assess the methodological differences between two of the most representative American economists of the interwar years.

In a probabilistic sensitivity analysis (PSA) of a cost-effectiveness (CE) study, the unknown parameters are considered as random variables. A crucial question is what probabilistic distribution is suitable for synthesizing the available information (mainly data from clinical trials) about these parameters. In this context, the important role of Bayesian methodology has been recognized, where the parameters are of a random nature. We explore, in the context of CE analyses, how formal objective Bayesian methods can be implemented. In this paper, the delay-dependent H"~ filtering problem for a class of continuous-time Markovian jump linear systems with time-varying delay and partially accessible mode information is investigated by an indirect approach. The generality lies in that the systems under consideration are subject to a Markov stochastic process with exactly known and partially unknown transition rates. Most behavioral and social experiments aimed at revealing contextuality are confined to cyclic systems with binary outcomes. In quantum physics, this broad class of systems includes as special cases Klyachko-Can-Binicioglu-Shumovsky-type, Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-Bell-type, and Suppes-Zanotti-Leggett-Garg-type systems. Salkowski curves revisited: A family of curves with constant curvature and non-constant torsion

In the paper [Salkowski, E., 1909. Zur Transformation von Raumkurven, Mathematische Annalen 66 (4), 517-557] published one century ago, a family of curves with constant curvature but non-constant torsion was defined. We characterize them as space curves with constant curvature and whose normal vector makes a constant angle with a fixed line. The relation between these curves and rational curves with double Pythagorean hodograph is studied. A method to construct closed curves, including knotted curves, of constant curvature and continuous torsion using pieces of Salkowski curves is outlined.
