Hidden Mediterranean diversity: Assessing species taxa by molecular phylogeny within the opilionid family Trogulidae (Arachnida, Opiliones)
2009
This is the first comprehensive study to evaluate the relationships between the western palearctic harvestman families Dicranolasmatidae, Trogulidae and Nemastomatidae with focus on the phylogeny and systematics of Trogulidae, using combined sequence data of the nuclear 28S rRNA and the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Bayesian analysis and Maximum parsimony do not reliably resolve Dicranolasma as distinct family but place it on a similar phylogenetic level as several lineages of Trogulidae. Nemastomatidae and Trogulidae turned out to be monophyletic, as did genera Anelasmocephalus and Trogulus within the Trogulidae. The genera Calathocratus, Platybessobius and Trogulocratus each appeared p…
Respiratory proteins in Sipunculus nudus--implications for phylogeny and evolution of the hemerythrin family.
2009
Three major classes of respiratory proteins are known, hemoglobin, molluscan and arthropod hemocyanin, and hemerythrin (Hr). Similar to hemoglobin, respiratory Hr is packed into erythrocytes floating in the coelomic fluid and is only known from sipunculids, brachiopods, and priapulids. Owing to this scattered distribution, the presence of Hr is generally assumed to be the plesiomorphic condition without phylogenetic importance. By sequencing 2000 Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) from Sipunculus nudus, we found 75 Hr-coding ESTs assembled to 20 cDNA contigs classified as four distinct Hr isoforms: three polymeric Hrs (subunit A, A', and B) and the monomeric myo-hemerythrin (myoHr). Phylogeneti…
Optical characterization of YCa4O(BO3)3 and Nd:YCa4O(BO3)3 crystals
2007
International audience; We report a complete optical characterization of YCa4O(BO3)3 and Nd:YCa4O(BO3)3 crystals. We studied the relative orientation between the dielectric and the crystallographic frames as a function of the wavelength and performed accurate phase-matching angles measurements for second harmonic generation, using a single crystal cut as a sphere. We also recorded polarized luminescence spectra of Nd:YCOB along the principal axes of the dielectric frame. For both crystals, we measured the gray-tracking and the thermo-optic properties as a function of temperature and wavelength using oriented slabs. Finally, we measured all their dielectric and electro-optic coefficients, as…
Superconvergent Perturbation Theory, KAM Theorem (Introduction)
2001
Here we are dealing with an especially fast converging perturbation series, which is of particular importance for the proof of the KAM theorem (cf. below).
On the existence of bounded solutions to a class of nonlinear initial value problems with delay
2017
We consider a class of nonlinear initial value problems with delay. Using an abstract fixed point theorem, we prove an existence result producing a unique bounded solution.
Homoclinic Solutions of Nonlinear Laplacian Difference Equations Without Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz Condition
2021
The aim of this paper is to establish the existence of at least two non-zero homoclinic solutions for a nonlinear Laplacian difference equation without using Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type-conditions. The main tools are mountain pass theorem and Palais-Smale compactness condition involving suitable functionals.
Pairs of nontrivial smooth solutions for nonlinear Neumann problems
2020
Abstract We consider a nonlinear Neumann problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator with a reaction term that exhibits strong resonance at infinity. Using variational tools based on the critical point theory, we prove the existence of two nontrivial smooth solutions.
NONLOCAL LAYER-WISE ADVANCED THEORIES FOR LAMINATED PLATES
2019
Eringen nonlocal layer-wise models for the analysis of multilayered plates are formulated in the framework of the Carrera Unified Formulation and the Reissner Mixed Variational Theorem (RMVT). The use of the layer-wise approach and RMVT ensures the fulfilment of the transverse stress equilibrium at the layers’ interfaces and allows the analysis of plates with layers exhibiting different characteristic lengths in their nonlocal behaviour. A Navier solution has been implemented and tested for the static bending of rectangular simply-supported plates. The obtained results favourably compare against available three-dimensional analytic results and demonstrate the features of the proposed theori…
Emergence and Phylodynamics of Citrus tristeza virus in Sicily, Italy
2013
Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) outbreaks were detected in Sicily island, Italy for the first time in 2002. To gain insight into the evolutionary forces driving the emergence and phylogeography of these CTV populations, we determined and analyzed the nucleotide sequences of the p20 gene from 108 CTV isolates collected from 2002 to 2009. Bayesian phylogenetic analysis revealed that mild and severe CTV isolates belonging to five different clades (lineages) were introduced in Sicily in 2002. Phylogeographic analysis showed that four lineages co-circulated in the main citrus growing area located in Eastern Sicily. However, only one lineage (composed of mild isolates) spread to distant areas of Sici…
A characteristic subgroup and kernels of Brauer characters
2005
If G is finite group and P is a Sylow p-subgroup of G, we prove that there is a unique largest normal subgroup L of G such that L ⋂ P = L ⋂ NG (P). If G is p-solvable, then L is the intersection of the kernels of the irreducible Brauer characters of G of degree not divisible by p.
