Some Characterisations of Soluble SST-Groups

All groups considered in this paper are finite. A subgroup H of a group G is said to be SS-permutable or SS-quasinormal in G if H has a supplement K in G such that H permutes with every Sylow subgroup of K. Following [6], we call a group G an SST-group provided that SS-permutability is a transitive relation in G, that is, if A is an SS-permutable subgroup of B and B is an SS-permutable subgroup of G, then A is an SS-permutable subgroup of G. The main aim of this paper is to present several characterisations of soluble SST-groups.

Characters of relative p'-degree over normal subgroups

Let Z be a normal subgroup of a finite group G , let ??Irr(Z) be an irreducible complex character of Z , and let p be a prime number. If p does not divide the integers ?(1)/?(1) for all ??Irr(G) lying over ? , then we prove that the Sylow p -subgroups of G/Z are abelian. This theorem, which generalizes the Gluck-Wolf Theorem to arbitrary finite groups, is one of the principal obstacles to proving the celebrated Brauer Height Zero Conjecture

On fully ramified Brauer characters

Let Z be a normal subgroup of a finite group, let p≠5 be a prime and let λ∈IBr(Z) be an irreducible G-invariant p-Brauer character of Z. Suppose that λG=eφ for some φ∈IBr(G). Then G/Z is solvable. In other words, a twisted group algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not 5 with a unique class of simple modules comes from a solvable group.

One of the hardest areas in the Character Theory of Solvable Groups continues to be the monomial groups. A finite group is said to be an M-group (or monomial) if all of its irreducible characters are monomial, that is to say, induced from linear characters. Two are still the main problems on M-groups: are Hall subgroups of M groups monomial? Under certain oddness hypothesis, are normal subgroups of M-groups monomial? NONVANISHING ELEMENTS FOR BRAUER CHARACTERS

Let $G$ be a finite group and $p$ a prime. We say that a $p$-regular element $g$ of $G$ is $p$-nonvanishing if no irreducible $p$-Brauer character of $G$ takes the value $0$ on $g$. The main result of this paper shows that if $G$ is solvable and $g\in G$ is a $p$-regular element which is $p$-nonvanishing, then $g$ lies in a normal subgroup of $G$ whose $p$-length and $p^{\prime }$-length are both at most 2 (with possible exceptions for $p\leq 7$), the bound being best possible. Separation properties of (n, m)-IFS attractors

Abstract The separation properties of self similar sets are discussed in this article. An open set condition for the (n, m)- iterated function system is introduced and the concepts of self similarity, similarity dimension and Hausdorff dimension of the attractor generated by an (n, m) - iterated function system are studied. It is proved that the similarity dimension and the Hausdorff dimension of the attractor of an (n, m) - iterated function system are equal under this open set condition. Further a necessary and sufficient condition for a set to satisfy the open set condition is established.

Fractional differential equations solved by using Mellin transform

In this paper, the solution of the multi-order differential equations, by using Mellin Transform, is proposed. It is shown that the problem related to the shift of the real part of the argument of the transformed function, arising when the Mellin integral operates on the fractional derivatives, may be overcame. Then, the solution may be found for any fractional differential equation involving multi-order fractional derivatives (or integrals). The solution is found in the Mellin domain, by solving a linear set of algebraic equations, whose inverse transform gives the solution of the fractional differential equation at hands.

Mellin transform approach for the solution of coupled systems of fractional differential equations

In this paper, the solution of a multi-order, multi-degree-of-freedom fractional differential equation is addressed by using the Mellin integral transform. By taking advantage of a technique that relates the transformed function, in points of the complex plane differing in the value of their real part, the solution is found in the Mellin domain by solving a linear set of algebraic equations. The approximate solution of the differential (or integral) equation is restored, in the time domain, by using the inverse Mellin transform in its discretized form.

Aquatic ecosystems are continuously threatened by a growing number of human induced changes. Macroinvertebrate biomonitoring is particularly efficient in pinpointing the cause-effect structure between slow and subtle changes and their detrimental consequences in aquatic ecosystems.
