Evaluación y caracterización biomecánica de los trinquetes de pelota valenciana. (Biomechanical assessment and characterization of the Valencian ball…
2012
A mobilization regimen to prevent mandibular hypomobility in irradiated patients : an analysis and comparison of two techniques
2007
Radiotherapy, when used in head and neck cancer treatment, can produce side effects in the patients, such as decreased salivary production, xerostomia, opportunistic infections, radiation caries, dysphagia, local discomfort and the limitation of mouth opening. The aim of this study was to evaluate the amplitude of mouth opening in patients before and immediately after the completion of radiotherapy, comparing the effectiveness of two physiotherapy exercises. The irradiated sites included the masticatory muscles. The results demonstrated that there were no statistically significant differences between the two instituted exercises; however there was a trend towards better clinical results in …
Evaluation of the animal-assisted therapy in Alzheimer's disease
2017
Animal-assisted therapy sessions have been set up in a protected unit for patients with a dementia-related syndrome. The aim is to measure the effects of animal-assisted therapy on behavioural disorders in daily life and care. The results obtained provided some interesting areas to explore and recommendations with a view to optimising the implementation of such a system.
Dipeptidyl Enoates As Potent Rhodesain Inhibitors That Display a Dual Mode of Action
2015
Dipeptidyl enoates were prepared through a high-yielding two-step synthetic route. They have a dipeptidic structure with a 4-oxoenoate moiety as a warhead with multiple reactive sites. Dipeptidyl enoates were screened against rhodesain and human cathepsins B and L, and were found to be potent and selective inhibitors of rhodesain. Among them (S,E)-ethyl 5-((S)-2-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}-3-phenylpropanamido)-7-methyl-4-oxooct-2-enoate (6) was the most potent, with an IC50 value of 16.4 nm and kinact/Ki=1.6×106 m−1 s−1 against rhodesain. These dipeptidyl enoates display a reversible mode of inhibition at very low concentrations and an irreversible mode at higher concentrations. Inhibition…
Targeting the Activin Receptor Signaling to Counteract the Multi-Systemic Complications of Cancer and Its Treatments
2021
Muscle wasting, i.e., cachexia, frequently occurs in cancer and associates with poor prognosis and increased morbidity and mortality. Anticancer treatments have also been shown to contribute to sustainment or exacerbation of cachexia, thus affecting quality of life and overall survival in cancer patients. Pre-clinical studies have shown that blocking activin receptor type 2 (ACVR2) or its ligands and their downstream signaling can preserve muscle mass in rodents bearing experimental cancers, as well as in chemotherapy-treated animals. In tumor-bearing mice, the prevention of skeletal and respiratory muscle wasting was also associated with improved survival. However, the definitive proof tha…
Stories of professional development in physiotherapy education
2022
This study examines graduating physiotherapy students’ narratives related to their professional development. The data comprised interviews with 33 graduating physiotherapy students. The data were analyzed using the narrative analysis approach. As a result, five different story models were identified. The descriptive story models were named: 1) “Study path dominated by life changes”; 2) “Realizing the connection between physiotherapy theory and practice”; 3) “Self-regulated and practical-oriented learning path”; 4) “Becoming a critical developer”; and 5) “Multiprofessional working towards expertise”. In students’ stories, there appeared different turning points that illustrated especially me…
Fysioterapiatyön ydinosaaminen akuuttisairaalassa fysioterapeuttien arvioimana
2017
Osaamisen arviointi on tärkeä osa terveysalan laatua.
Musculoskeletal disorders and disability among forest industry workers in lower and higher sickness absence groups: a case-control study
2019
Background: Musculoskeletal wellbeing and disorders and explanatory factors were investigated among forest industry employees. Methods: A new positive approach to maintenance of working ability focuses on being present at work. 140 individuals with low sickness absence (≤1.5% in hours during the past 6.5 years) and 140 controls with higher sickness absence (>1.5%), randomly selected from the source population (n = 636) in workplace clusters (n = 5), were studied. Questionnaire data on functioning, musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) and disability, work ability and wellbeing were collected (response rate 65%) during December 2012–January 2013. 183 employees (mean age 48.5; females 32%) particip…
Changing landscape in professional development : narrative research from the physiotherapy students' perspective
2018
Physiotherapy students construct their professional development gradually in a socio-cultural process between school and working life in the health care sector. The Health Care Professionals Act 559/1994 and National Qualification Framework (NQF) define the legislative basis and education for physiotherapists in Finland. The European Qualification Framework (EQF) defines the learning outcomes in education and they focus on what knowledge, skills and competences the learner has acquired by the end of the learning process, but it does not identify how outcomes are achieved. The aim of this study is to investigate and understand physiotherapy students’ stories about their professional developm…
