Inducing Cold-Sensitivity in the Frigophilic Fly Drosophila montana by RNAi

2016

The work was supported by CNPq (Fellowship to FMV) and a NERC Studentship to DJP. Cold acclimation is a critical physiological adaptation for coping with seasonal cold. By increasing their cold tolerance individuals can remain active for longer at the onset of winter and can recover more quickly from a cold shock. In insects, despite many physiological studies, little is known about the genetic basis of cold acclimation. Recently, transcriptomic analyses in Drosophila virilis and D.montana revealed candidate genes for cold acclimation by identifying genes upregulated during exposure to cold. Here, we test the role of myo-inositol-1-phosphate synthase (Inos), in cold tolerance in D. montana …

Comparison of adsorption properties of commercial silica and rice husk ash (RHA) silica: A study by NIR spectroscopy

2021

Abstract Adsorption properties of Silica gel (commercial silica), rice husk ash (RHA) silica, and their hydrothermally treated products towards water molecules were studied in this work. RHA silica was prepared by heating rice husk to 650°C for 4 h after pretreatment with hydrochloric acid. Portions of the samples of silica were evacuated at 200℃ and then allowed to adsorb water molecules from the surrounding air at either 42 or 50% humidity. The near infrared spectra of these samples were measured at different time intervals during their adsorption of water molecules. The evolved near infrared spectra were analyzed using second derivative techniques. Adsorption properties of these samples …

Crystal structure of [tris(4,4-bipyridine)]diium bis(1,1,3,3-tetracyano-2-ethoxypropenide) trihydrate

2016

In the title hydrated salt, which was obtained from the hydrothermal reaction between between potassium 1,1,3,3-tetracyano-2-ethoxypropenide and 4,4′-bipyridine in the presence of iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate, the ionic components are linked into a three-dimensional network by C—H⋯N hydrogen bonds.

Monitoring water and carbon fluxes at fine spatial scales using HyspIRI-like measurements

2012

Remotely sensed observations in the visible to the shortwave infrared (VSWIR) and thermal infrared (TIR) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum can be used synergistically to provide valuable products of land surface properties for reliable assessments of carbon and water fluxes. The high spatial, spectral and temporal resolution VSWIR and TIR observations provided by the proposed Hyperspectral - InfraRed (HyspIRI) mission will enable a new era of global agricultural monitoring, critical for addressing growing issues of food insecurity. To enable predictions at fine spatial resolution (<100m), modeling efforts must rely on a combination of high-frequency temporal and highresolution spa…

Paediatric head and neck malignant neoplasms: A brazilian retrospective study

2023

To assess the prevalence of oral and maxillofacial malignant neoplasias in children and adolescents diagnosed through biopsies sent to the Oral Pathology Laboratory at the University of Sao Paulo School of Dentistry. A retrospective analysis of anatomopathological reports on patients between 1 and 18 years old issued by the oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratory between 1997 and 2021 was performed for demographic data, lesion site, type of biopsy, diagnostic hypothesis and final diagnosis. The laboratory issued 76,194 anatomopathological reports during this period, of which 10.77% were of children and adolescents. Of this total, only 32 biopsies (32/8.204; 0.39%) were neoplasias in chi…

Simultaneous Noise and Impedance Fitting to Transition-Edge Sensor Data Using Differential Evolution

2020

We discuss a robust method to simultaneously fit a complex multi-body model both to the complex impedance and the noise data for transition-edge sensors. It is based on a differential evolution (DE) algorithm, providing accurate and repeatable results with only a small increase in computational cost compared to the Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) algorithm. Test fits are made using both DE and LM methods, and the results compared with previously determined best fits, with varying initial value deviations and limit ranges for the parameters. The robustness of DE is demonstrated with successful fits even when parameter limits up to a factor of 10 from the known values were used. It is shown that the…

A new copper(II) chelate complex with polyamines as fire retardant and epoxy hardener: Synthesis, crystal and electronic structure, and thermal behav…

2020

A new (ethylenediamine-N,N′)-(diethylenetriamine-N,N′,N″)-copper(II) hexafluoridosilicate complex, [Cu(eda)(deta)]SiF6 (1) (eda – ethylenediamine; deta – diethylenetriamine), was synthesized by direct interaction of anhydrous CuSiF6 with polyethylenepolyamine (pepa – H2N[C2H4NH]nH, where n = 1 (eda) and 2 (deta)). The crystals of 1 were characterized by IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 consists of SiF62− discrete anions and [Cu(eda)(deta)]2+ complex cations whose Cu2+ ions are chelated by eda and deta. The coordination polyhedron of Cu(II) atom is an elongated square pyramid which consists of four nitrogen atoms belonging to NH2 groups of eda and NH2 and NH groups of …

Synthesis, structural, and thermal characterization of a new binuclear copper(II) chelate complex bearing an amine-hardener for epoxy resins

2016

A new di(μ-carbonato)bis[aqua(diethylenetriamine)copper(II)] hexahydrate complex, [{Cu(NH(C2H4NH2)2)(H2O)(μ-CO3)}2]⋅6H2O (1), was synthesized by direct interaction of malachite with diethylenetriamine (dien). The crystals of 1 were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and IR spectra, as well as structurally characterized. Compound 1 consists of [{Cu(dien)(H2O)(μ-CO3)}2] discrete units whose CO32– anions play the role of bridging ligands combining two Cu(II) chelate cores into a centrosymmetric dimer. The elongated octahedral environment of Cu2+ consists of three nitrogens of dien and an oxygen from CO32– at the base of the bipyramid; the two apical positions of such polyhedron are occu…
