<title>Two-dimensional and dynamic (2DD) method of visualization of the flow characteristics in a convection boundary layer using infrared ther…
2000
The paper presents the 2D and dynamic (2DD) method of using infrared (IR) thermography for the visualization of the cooling efficiency of a heated wall, as this method was applied in an experimental investigation. The 2DD method allows the outer surface temperature measured by the IR thermography device to be worked out relative to the bulk coolant-fluid temperature. In this way the 2DD method makes visible the qualitative and quantitative flow characteristics within the thin contact layers at the inner surface of the wall. This flow characteristics, and more specifically the pattern of stream lines (for the detection of dead zones) and the distribution of the temperature differences betwee…
<title>Using infrared thermography as a tool to analyze curling and cockling of paper</title>
1992
Paper surface topology analysis with infrared thermography is described. Heat is applied perpendicular to the target. Temperature distribution of the sheet correlates well with the surface height distribution when the sheet is placed on the isothermic plate. Mathematical tools for data analysis and the mechanisms behind the curl and cockles are briefly discussed. Curl in paper and paperboard is defined as deviation from the flat form.© (1992) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Condition Monitoring Technologies for Synthetic Fiber Ropes - a Review
2020
This paper presents a review of different condition monitoring technologies for fiber ropes. Specifically, it presents an overview of the articles and patents on the subject, ranging from the early 70’s up until today with the state of the art. Experimental results are also included and discussed in a conditionmonitoring context, where failuremechanisms and changes in physical parameters give improved insight into the degradation process of fiber ropes. From this review, it is found that automatic width measurement has received surprisingly little attention, and might be a future direction for the development of a continuous condition monitoring system for synthetic fiber ropes.
Time-resolved XRD experiments for a fine description of mechanisms induced during reactive sintering
2005
The control of Mechanically Activated Field Activated Pressure Assisted Synthesis hereafter called the MAFAPAS process is the main objective to be achieved for producing nanostructure materials with a controlled consolidation level. Consequently, it was essential to develop characterization tools "in situ" such as the Time Resolved X-ray Diffraction (TRXRD), with an X-ray synchrotron beam (H10, LURE Orsay) coupled to an infrared thermography to study simultaneously structural transformations and thermal evolutions. From the 2003 experiments, we took the opportunity to modify the sample-holder in order to reproduce the better synthesis conditions of the MAFAPAS process, but without the conso…
Automatic detection of thermal anomalies in induction motors
2021
The paper proposes a methodology based on Artificial Intelligence techniques for the automatic detection of abnormal thermal distributions in electric motors, to rapidly identify pre-faults or fault conditions. The proposed approach, applied to induction motors of different sizes, installed in waterworks plants, is based on the execution of Thermographic Non-Destructive Tests, which allow identifying abnormal operating conditions without interrupting the ordinary working conditions of the system. Thermographic images of induction motors are acquired at the installation site and with perspectives visible to the operator, which are sometimes partially obstructed. These thermographic images ar…
<title>Textures from stereo-based IR imaging for industrial tire inspection</title>
2000
A conceptual system to produce 3D thermal models of tires for tire inspection and defect characterization is proposed. The system uses registered range and thermal information to build highly detailed 3D models using either a volumetric or mech-based approach. To achieve this goal, two narrow bandpass filters are used in conjunction with two IR cameras to obtain the true temperature of the target body. The thermal information is then translated to texture data and mapped as an overlay onto a 3D model. The textures are realizable through the use of three-component texture maps that include rgb values to specify the texture coordinates in the plane. The objective is to generate a movie loop d…
Introduction: Historical Perspective of Infrared Thermography and Its Application in Sport Science
2016
Within the various chapters of this book, the methodology and different applications of infrared thermography in sport science will be discussed. But what are the origins of infrared thermography? What has its development been like in sport science? The present introductory chapter of the book aims to show the historical developments of infrared thermography and, fundamentally, its application in sport science.
Spatial and thermal measurements using thermography CCD during HF soldering of metallic tubes
2002
High frequency soldering allows high production speed, contactless heating and good quality of the weld. The speed limit of soldering is principally imposed by a good drive of the metal in the profiling machine. To control a HF soldering process, the authors propose a new method and approach which consists in controlling the temperature with a thermal image acquisition system developed in their laboratory. Their computer vision, described in this paper, is based on CCD thermography. This technology brings many advantages and tools in the measurement of thermal and spatial parameters. In fact, high spatial (800/spl times/600 pixels) and temporal resolutions, good relative thermal resolution …
Issues and Future Developments of Infrared Thermography in Sports Science
2016
Although currently infrared thermography has a great number of applications in sports science, there are a number of different aspects that need to be investigated in order to improve the technique, the methodology, the analysis and to increase its application areas. In this chapter, we discuss the issues with and possible developments in infrared thermography in sport science, in order to facilitate future R&D.
