Deprotonation of Thiophenes Using Lithium Magnesates.

2005

Abstract Thiophene was regioselectively deprotonated at C2 on treatment with 1/3 equiv of Bu3MgLi in THF at room temperature. The lithium arylmagnesate formed was either trapped with electrophiles or cross-coupled in a ‘one-pot’ procedure with aryl halides under palladium catalysis. 2-Chlorothiophene and 2-methoxythiophene were similarly deprotonated at C5 under the same reaction conditions. The enhancement of the reactivity of the base using TMEDA was evidenced using 1H NMR spectroscopy.

FT Raman and DFT Study on a Series of All-antiOligothienoacenes End-Capped with Triisopropylsilyl Groups

2009

minal a positions. These substituents aid in purification and solution processability, and can be removed under mild chemical conditions. For the first time, we have the opportunity to analyze a series of oligothienoacenes to gain insight into the fundamental structure–property relationships with respect to the addition of each ring. Furthermore, this series of compounds can be directly compared to other well-studied series of closely related oligomers, such as nonfused oligothiophenes and fully fused all-syn oligothienoacenes. [7] To gain precise insight into relationships between the structure and properties of a wide range of p-conjugated molecular Herein, we study the p-conjugational pr…

Synthesis and in vitro antimicrobial activities of new (cyano-NNO-azoxy) pyrazole derivatives

2011

The antibacterial and antifungal activity of a series of products, in which the 1,5-dimethyl-4-(cyano- NNO-azoxy)pyrazol-3-yl and 1,3-dimethyl-4-(cyano-NNO-azoxy)pyrazol-5-yl moieties were linked to pyridine, pyrazole, isoxazole, thiophene and the furan ring, were examined. No molecule displayed activity against the Gram-negative bacteria tested. Conversely, some compounds displayed activity against two Staphylococcus aureus strains, including the methicillin resistant strain. All compounds displayed interesting antifungal activity, the most active compound of the series being the thiophene derivative 7a. This compound’s activity against Candida krusei and Candida glabrata (MIC = 0.25 and 0…

Copolymerization of Polythiophene and Sulfur To Improve the Electrochemical Performance in Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

2015

We first report on the copolymerization of sulfur and allyl-terminated poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) derived by Grignard metathesis polymerization. This copolymerization is enabled by the conversion of sulfur radicals formed by thermolytic cleavage of S8 rings with allyl end-group. The formation of a C–S bond in the copolymer is characterized by a variety of methods, including NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, and near-edge X-ray absorption fine spectroscopy. The S-P3HT copolymer is applied as an additive to sulfur as cathode material in lithium–sulfur batteries and compared to the use of a simple mixture of sulfur and P3HT, in which sulfur and P3HT were not covalent…

Metal complexes of an amine bisphenol with a thiophene side-arm

2010

Dioxomolybdenum(VI) and oxotungsten(VI) complexes with a new amine bisphenol ligand (H2L) are reported. The ligand which carries a neutral nitrogen atom, two phenolic oxygen atoms and a thiophene side-arm was synthesized by a simple one-pot Mannich reaction. Further reaction with [MoO2(acac)2] yielded a monomeric molybdenum complex [MoO2(L)(MeOH)] (2a) or a dimeric complex [Mo2O2(μ-O)2(L)2] (2b), depending on the reaction conditions. The reaction with a tungsten trisglycolate [W(eg)3] led to the formation of a monomeric compound [WO(eg)(L)] (3). In these complexes, the potentially tetradentate amine bisphenolate dianion coordinates as a tridentate O,N,O donor while the sulfur side-arm donor…

Chronic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorβ/δ agonist GW0742 prevents hypertension, vascular inflammatory and oxidative status, and endotheli…

2015

Endothelial dysfunction plays a key role in obesity-induced risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of chronic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)β/δ agonist GW0742 treatment on endothelial function in obese mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD).Five-week-old male mice were allocated to one of the following groups: control, control-treated (GW0742, 3 mg/kg per day, by oral gavage), HFD, HFD + GW0742, HFD + GSK0660 (1 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneal) or HFD-GW0742-GSK0660 and followed for 11 or 13 weeks. GW0742 administration to mice fed HFD prevented the gain of body weight, heart and kidney hypertrophy, and fat accumulation. The increase in …

Efficacy and safety of canagliflozin over 52 weeks in patients with type 2 diabetes on background metformin and pioglitazone.

2014

Aim The efficacy and safety of canagliflozin, a sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor, was evaluated in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) inadequately controlled with metformin and pioglitazone. Methods In this randomized, double-blind, phase 3 study, patients (N = 342) received canagliflozin 100 or 300 mg during a 26-week, placebo-controlled, core period and a 26-week, active-controlled extension in which placebo-treated patients were switched to sitagliptin 100 mg. Efficacy comparisons for canagliflozin versus placebo at week 26 are reported, with no comparisons versus sitagliptin at week 52 (sitagliptin used to maintain double-blind and control for safety). Safety data ar…

Anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of a novel inhibitor of microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 expression

2009

Abstract In a previous study, we reported a new γ-hydroxybutenolide derivative, 4-benzo[ b ]thiophen-2-yl-3-bromo-5-hydroxy-5 H -furan-2-one (BTH), as inhibitor of microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1) expression in lypopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated RAW 264.7 and TPH-1 cells, without affecting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). In this study, we evaluated the in vivo effect of BTH on some acute and chronic inflammatory animal models in relation to its inhibitory profile on mPGES-1 expression. In the zymosan-induced mouse air pouch model, BTH produced a dose-dependent inhibition of prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2 ) production and mPGES-1 protein expression in pouch exudates without any effect on…

Theoretical Characterization of the Electronic Structure of Poly(Heteroaromatic Vinylenes)

1990

Since the pioneering work of the mid-seventies, the number of organic π-conjugated polymers, that can be made highly conducting upon appropriate chemical treatment, has grown tremendously. Among the most studied of these compounds are those based on fivemembered heteroaromatic rings, such as polythiophene (PT) and polypyrrole (PPy). The attractiveness of these polymers, relative to polyacetylene (PA) and poly(p-phenylene) (PPP), is the high chemical and thermal stability they show.1
