Ultrasound-guided spinal fracture repositioning
1998
The management of narrowing spinal fragments in the operative treatment of spinal fractures remains an open question, in particular when the procedure is performed by a posterior approach. This article describes the use of intraoperative ultrasonography during spinal surgery. From 1990 to 1997, 116 spinal fractures were treated operatively at our clinic. Stabilization of the spine was achieved with the AO fixateur interne and the AO USS, respectively (Synthes, D-79224, Umkirch, Germany). For 60 cases who had a fractured posterior vertebral surface dislocated into the spinal canal, we used intraoperative ultrasonography to monitor the repositioning of the narrowing fragments. The patients un…
Acute aortic dissection
2011
An acute aortic syndrome with simultaneous presence of a penetrating aortic ulcer, an intramural haematoma, a thoracic aortic dissection and an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture has not previously been reported. Herein, we describe our experience with a patient treated by endovascular means with an 8-year follow-up.
Prevalence and Clinical Outcomes for Patients With ALK Gene Rearrangement in Europe: Preliminary Results from the European Thoracic Oncology Platform…
2012
ABSTRACT Background The prevalence of ALK gene rearrangement (ALK+) in European patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is unknown. The Lungscape project provides a platform to evaluate its expression and clinical significance in a large cohort of patients with resected NSCLC from 13 European sites in 11 countries. Methods Participating sites retrospectively identified cases of NSCLC with clinical demographic and outcome data, and available tissue for research according to predefined protocol criteria. Local ethical and regulatory approvals were adhered to. Clinical data were entered to a central, secure database. Accepted cases on the basis of completeness of clinical data were as…

Prospective evaluation of parathyroid graft function after total parathyroidectomy and heterotopic autotransplantation in renal hyperparathyroidism b…
1998
The value of gradients for intact parathyroid hormone (PTH) in the assessment of graft function after total parathyroidectomy/autotransplantation for renal hyperparathyroidism was evaluated in a prospective follow-up study. Altogether 99 patients who underwent operation from August 1, 1987 to December 31, 1996 were prospectively investigated and reexamined postoperatively, including analyses of serum calcium, alkaline phosphatase, and intact PTH in the antecubital venous blood of both arms. The postoperative course is known for all patients. Of the 99 patients included in the study, 95 underwent one to nine reexaminations (median three) over follow-up periods of 1 month to 5 years (median 2…

Anwendungsmglichkeiten der intraoperativen Sonographie
1983
