AbstractRobotic surgery is gaining importance in complex thoracoscopic surgery, such as robotic-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE). The RAMIE procedure was designed using the first generation of the robotic system. The latest da Vinci Xi system has substantially increased the dexterity, especially designed for multiquadrant surgery. The original three-arm RAMIE approach was modified including the robotic four-arm use for the thoracoscopic and laparoscopic part of the operation. This extended approach (four-arm RAMIE approach) provides more flexibility and raises the independence of the surgeon.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for surgical complications after anatomic lung resections in the era of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). METHODS A retrospective analysis of all consecutive adult patients who underwent elective anatomic lung resections between January and December 2020 at our institution was performed. RESULTS Eighty patients (40 VATS, 40 thoracotomy) were included. The 30-day mortality rate was 1.3%. The overall rate of major postoperative complications was 18.8%. Dumbbell shaped epidural cavernomas are uncommon lesions. Of these, the extraforaminal extension is usually limited, and the lesions are removed surgically by an extended laminectomy. We present two cases of dumbbell shaped epidural cavernomas with a considerable intrathoracic growth. They were resected through a combined thoracotomy and laminectomy. Only in the case in which a wide approach to the posterior mediastinum was performed it was possible to completely remove the lesion. A new species of smooth clam shrimp (Branchiopoda: Laevicaudata) from Mongolia and China is described here based on both morphological and genetic differences. The new species, Lynceus grossipedia n. sp., has unique features, including asymmetrically modified male thoracopods (left side thoracopods III-VI), male claspers “movable finger” (=endopod) with delicate setation, and broad, bicarinate male and female rostrum.
