Urinary tract infections in children: EAU/ESPU guidelines.

2015

Context: In 30% of children with urinary tract anomalies, urinary tract infection (UTI) can be the first sign. Failure to identify patients at risk can result in damage to the upper urinary tract. Objective: To provide recommendations for the diagnosis, treatment, and imaging of children presenting with UTI.Evidence acquisition: The recommendations were developed after a review of the literature and a search of PubMed and Embase. A consensus decision was adopted when evidence was low.Evidence synthesis: UTIs are classified according to site, episode, symptoms, and complicating factors. For acute treatment, site and severity are the most important. Urine sampling by suprapubic aspiration or c…

Experimental dynamic analysis of elastic-plastic shear frames with secondary structures

2003

Various experimental models are developed to study the influence of lightweight secondary structures on the dynamic response of elastic and elastic-plastic shear frames. Small-scale two-story model frames, with an elastic single-degree-of-freedom secondary structure attached, are considered for sinusoidal and random in-plane support excitation. Both elastic and elastic-plastic responses are recorded by varying the material properties of the columns of a distinguished floor. Parametric studies are performed by varying the secondary structure's fundamental frequency and damping. Experimental results are compared with those obtained by computational simulations. Experimental and numerical resu…

Bimetallic PdAg nanoparticle arrays from monolayer films of diblock copolymer micelles

2015

MICROSCOPIE+ATARI+EEH:GMA:TBG:NSP:MAO; International audience; The self-assembly technique provides a highly efficient route to generate well-ordered structures on a nanometer scale. In this paper, well-ordered arrays of PdAg alloy nanoparticles on flat substrates with narrow distributions of particle size (6-7 nm) and interparticle spacing (about 60 nm) were synthesized by the block copolymer micelle approach. A home-made PS-b-P4VP diblock copolymer was prepared to obtain a micellar structure in toluene. Pd and Ag salts were then successfully loaded in the micellar core of the PS-b-P4VP copolymer. A self-assembled monolayer of the loaded micelles was obtained by dipping the flat substrate …

Displacement measurement through DIC and DSPI techniques in cold-expanded holes

2008

In this paper, the displacement field induced by the split-sleeve cold expansion of holes was measured using both digital image correlation (DIC) and digital speckle pattern interferometry (DSPI) techniques. Thus, the experimental results, which were evaluated on the inlet surface of a 6082-T6 aluminium plate, were compared with those from theoretical prediction. DIC provided accurate measurements up to the elastic-plastic boundary, whereas the DSPI technique highlighted the changes of displacement in the elastic domain. Prediction of the displacement based on the existing analytical model agreed with the experimental results achieved with both techniques. Possible explanations for the diff…

Experimental and Theoretical Investigations on Structural and Vibrational Properties of Melilite-Type Sr2ZnGe2O7 at High Pressure and Delineation of …

2015

We report a combined experimental and theoretical study of melilite-type germanate, Sr2ZnGe2O7, under compression. In situ high-pressure X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements up to 22 GPa were complemented with first-principles theoretical calculations of structural and lattice dynamics properties. Our experiments show that the tetragonal structure of Sr2ZnGe2O7 at ambient conditions transforms reversibly to a monoclinic phase above 12.2 Gpa with similar to 1% volume drop at the phase transition pressure. Density functional calculations indicate the transition pressure at, similar to 13 GPa, which agrees well with the experimental value. The structure of the high-pressure mono…

A reliable incremental method of computing the limit load in deformation plasticity based on compliance : Continuous and discrete setting

2016

The aim of this paper is to introduce an enhanced incremental procedure that can be used for the numerical evaluation and reliable estimation of the limit load. A conventional incremental method of limit analysis is based on parametrization of the respective variational formulation by the loading parameter ? ? ( 0 , ? l i m ) , where ? l i m is generally unknown. The enhanced incremental procedure is operated in terms of an inverse mapping ? : α ? ? where the parameter α belongs to ( 0 , + ∞ ) and its physical meaning is work of applied forces at the equilibrium state. The function ? is continuous, nondecreasing and its values tend to ? l i m as α ? + ∞ . Reduction of the problem to a finit…

NaI/CuI–II heterometallic cages interconnected by unusual linear 2-coordinate OCN-Cu(I)-NCO links: synthesis, structural, magnetostructural correlati…

2009

A new Na(I)/Cu(I-II) heterometallic coordination complex [Cu(2)L(2)Na(NCO)(2)Cu](n) (1) with an unusual architecture has been synthesised. In 1 cyclic Na-O-Cu-O-Cu cages constructed by the tetradentate N(2)O(2) donor Schiff base ligand (H(2)L = N, N'-bis(2-hydroxyacetophenone) propylenediimine) are interconnected to each other by a rare singly end-to-end bridged OCN-Cu(I)-NCO link generating 1D chain. The complex has been characterised by elemental, spectral and structural analysis. The cyclic voltammogram of 1 has been compared with the analogous complexes. Cryomagnetic susceptibility studies indicate the copper(II) centers in the cyclic Na-O-Cu-O-Cu cages are antiferromagnetically coupled…

Depinning frequency in a heavily neutron-irradiated MgB2 sample

2008

The magnetic-field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance have been investigated in a heavily neutron-irradiated MgB2 sample, in which the irradiation has caused the merging of the two gaps into a single value. The experimental results have been analyzed in the framework of the Coffey and Clem model. By fitting the experimental data, we have determined the field dependence of the depinning frequency, omega_0, at different values of the temperature. Although the pinning is not particularly effective, the value of omega_0 obtained at low temperatures is considerably higher than that observed in conventional low-temperature superconductors.

Effect of somatic cell count level on functional longevity in Valle del Belice dairy sheep assessed using survival analysis.

2009

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of somatic cell count (SCC) on functional longevity and to estimate the heritability of functional longevity using survival analysis in Valle del Belice dairy sheep. A total of 4,880 lactations of 2,190 ewes from 11 flocks were used. In this study, SCC was considered as an indication of subclinical mastitis. In case of clinical cases, identified by the technicians at milking time, test-day weights and milk samples of those ewes were not considered. Somatic cells were analyzed as counts, without any transformation, and were grouped in 3 classes based on the observed SCC maximum (mxSCC). The mxSCC classes, expressed as 103 cells/mL, wer…

Connections Between Topology and Macroscopic Mechanical Properties of Three-Dimensional Open-Pore Materials

2018

This work addresses a number of fundamental questions regarding the topological description of materials characterized by a highly porous three-dimensional structure with bending as the major deformation mechanism. Highly efficient finite-element beam models were used for generating data on the mechanical behavior of structures with different topologies, ranging from highly coordinated bcc to Gibson–Ashby structures. Random cutting enabled a continuous modification of average coordination numbers ranging from the maximum connectivity to the percolation-cluster transition of the 3D network. The computed macroscopic mechanical properties–Young's modulus, yield strength, and Poisson's ratio–co…
