PdII-mediated integration of isocyanides and azide ions might proceed via formal 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between RNC ligands and uncomplexed azide

Reaction between equimolar amounts of trans-[PdCl(PPh3)2(CNR)][BF4] (R = t-Bu 1, Xyl 2) and diisopropylammonium azide 3 gives the tetrazolate trans-[PdCl(PPh3)2(N4t-Bu)] (67%, 4) or trans-[PdCl(PPh3)2(N4Xyl)] (72%, 5) complexes. 4 and 5 were characterized by elemental analyses (C, H, N), HRESI+-MS, 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopies. In addition, the structure of 4 was elucidated by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction. DFT calculations showed that the mechanism for the formal cycloaddition (CA) of N3− to trans-[PdCl(PH3)2(CNMe)]+ is stepwise. Cathodic Corrosion of Metal Electrodes—How to Prevent It in Electroorganic Synthesis

The critical aspects of the corrosion of metal electrodes in cathodic reductions are covered. We discuss the involved mechanisms including alloying with alkali metals, cathodic etching in aqueous and aprotic media, and formation of metal hydrides and organometallics. Successful approaches that have been implemented to suppress cathodic corrosion are reviewed. We present several examples from electroorganic synthesis where the clever use of alloys instead of soft neat heavy metals and the application of protective cationic additives have allowed to successfully exploit these materials as cathodes. Surface sediment dynamics along the shore of Hammamet Gulf (Tunisia, southern Mediterranean)

International audience; In the summer of 2015 the authors analysed grain size and surface sediment composition through high spatial resolution from samples taken at 53 stations along the Hammamet coast (southern Mediterranean Sea). The Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler deployed in this study showed that the surface current flows toward the north-east, parallel to the coast at a maximum speed along the main axis of about 5.9 cm s−1. Near the bottom the current flows toward the north-west at a maximum speed of 2.2 cm s−1. The tide plays a relatively small role in water circulation in Hammamet Gulf. Seasonal Analysis of Surface Soil Moisture Dry-Downs in a Land-Atmosphere Hotspot as Seen by LSM and Satellite Products

The soil drying process is a challenging framework to assess climatic, hydrologic and ecosystem processes. This work develops a seasonal analysis of temporal e-folding decay ( $\tau$ ) of surface soil moisture dry-downs using ORCHIDEE land surface model and SMOS observations over South Eastern South America (SESA). Results show that the soil drying process depends on both location and season, and that the modeled drying velocity is faster than the observed one, even when modeled data is sampled at the same frequency as the observations. Geographic and temporal variations in turbulent heat loss from lakes : A global analysis across 45 lakes

Heat fluxes at the lake surface play an integral part in determining the energy budget and thermal structure in lakes, including regulating how lakes respond to climate change. We explore patterns in turbulent heat fluxes, which vary across temporal and spatial scales, using in situ high-frequency monitoring data from 45 glob- ally distributed lakes. Our analysis demonstrates that some of the lakes studied follow a marked seasonal cycle in their turbulent surface fluxes and that turbulent heat loss is highest in larger lakes and those situated at low latitude.
