The titanium–iron–antimony ternary system and the crystal and electronic structure of the interstitial compound Ti5FeSb2

Abstract Phase equilibria were established in the Ti–Fe–Sb ternary system below the TiSb2–FeSb section at 1070 K; the Sb–TiSb2–FeSb region was studied at 870 K. Investigation of the phase relations was based on X-ray diffraction experiments on arc-melted bulk alloys, which were annealed up to 350 h. Four ternary compounds were observed: TiFe1−xSb (0.64≤x≤0.70; defect TiNiSi-type), Ti1.18Fe0.57Sb (partially and statistically filled Ni2In-type), Ti1+xFeSb (−0.20≤x≤0.27; transformation from defect AlLiSi-type to the defect MnCu2Al-type), and new Ti5FexSb3−x (0.45≤x≤1.00; W5Si3-type). La ricerca vuole analizzare il rapporto tra teatro e stato d’eccezione non nella dimensione della posterità ma della contemporaneità: la relazione che intercorre cioè tra gli avvenimenti storici, politici, sociali, il territorio che ne è testimone e i suoi abitanti, che rispondono di queste condizioni spendendo una competenza artistica. Abstract A new layered oxo-antimony(III) catecholate, [Sb(C6H4O2)]2O, can be obtained by reacting senarmontite with aqueous catechol. The same reaction performed with valentinite, the other allotropic form of Sb2O3, shows an intermediate hydrate that loses water at about 100°C. Both compounds can be obtained from SbPO4 under appropriate experimental conditions. [Sb(C6H4O2)]2O and the hydrated form, which appear to be layered materials, have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric/differential thermal analyses, and infrared techniques. The first isolation of an antimony(III) thiocyanate complex salt, [(CH3)4N][Sb(CNS)4] (I), and of two adducts of the Sb(CNS)3 formal unit with potentially tridentate nitrogen donors, Sb(CNS)3tpta (II) and [Sb(CNS)3]3(dqp)2 (III), is described. In these derivatives, infrared and Mossbauer spectral data are essentially indicating the predominant presence of N-bonded thiocyanate. BACKGROUND Thyroid nodules diagnosed as Thy3B at fine-needle aspiration biopsy have a relevant risk of malignancy (15-30%) and are usually addressed to surgery. However surgery will result unnecessary in most cases.
