Variación de tamaño de la hiperplasia nodular focal mediante resonancia magnética
2013
Objective: To evaluate the changes in the size of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) during longterm magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up.
Identification and characterization of a monoclonal antibody to the membrane fatty acid binding protein
1992
A monoclonal antibody to the rat liver membrane fatty acid binding protein (MFABP) was prepared by immunizing mice with purified MFABP isolated from solubilized rat liver plasma membrane proteins by oleate-agarose affinity chromatography technique. The monoclonal antibody K15/6 identified a single 40 kDa protein in rat liver plasma membranes with pI values of 8.5, 8.8 and 9.0, which is identical to the authentic MFABP, but clearly distinct from rat mitochondrial GOT. The antibody K15/6 selectively inhibited cellular influx as well as membrane binding of fatty acids, but not of cholesterol or vitamin E. The same antibody was used in immunofluorescence, ELISA and Western blot analysis to dete…
Evaluation of a novel monoclonal antibody against tumor-associated MUC1 for diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer
2019
There is still a great unmet medical need concerning diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer which could be addressed by utilizing specific molecular targets. Tumor-associated MUC1 is expressed on over 90 % of all breast cancer entities and differs strongly from its physiological form on epithelial cells, therefore presenting a unique target for breast cancer diagnosis and antibody-mediated immune therapy. Utilizing an anti-tumor vaccine based on a synthetically prepared glycopeptide, we generated a monoclonal antibody (mAb) GGSK-1/30, selectively recognizing human tumor-associated MUC1. This antibody targets exclusively tumor-associated MUC1 in the absence of any binding to MUC1 on health…
Mucin 1 downregulation associates with corticosteroid resistance in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
2013
Background A number of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) are resistant to oral corticosteroids. Mucin 1 (MUC1) shows anti-inflammatory properties, and its cytoplasmic tail (CT) interacts with transcription factors, facilitating their nuclear translocation. Because glucocorticoid receptor (GR) nuclear translocation is key to the anti-inflammatory effect of corticosteroids, we hypothesized that MUC1 is involved in the effectiveness of corticosteroids. Objective To analyze the role of MUC1 in corticosteroid effectiveness in different cohorts of patients with CRSwNP and elucidate the possible mechanisms involved. Methods Seventy-three patients with CRSwNP took oral…
C1q-bearing immune complexes detected by a monoclonal antibody to human C1q in rheumatoid arthritis sera and synovial fluids
1991
Using a monoclonal antibody directed against the C-chain of human C1q, we detected C1q-bearing immune complexes (IC) in sera and synovial fluids of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. In a sandwich-ELISA, C1q-bearing IC were captured by the solid-phase monoclonal antibody and then detected with peroxidase-labeled F(ab')2-antibodies to either human IgG or IgM. The results of this assay were compared to an ELISA-modification of the C1q-solid-phase binding assay (C1q-SPBA). C1q-bearing IC were detected in 81.1% of RA-sera and the 65.2% of RA-synovial fluids. IgG as well as IgM was present in 72.6% of the sera and 70% of the synovial fluids which were positive in both assays. Most RA sera that …
Multigenerational study of the obesogen effects of bisphenol S after a perinatal exposure in C57BL6/J mice fed a high fat diet.
2021
International audience; Background : Bisphenol S is an endocrine disruptor exhibiting metabolic disturbances, especially following perinatal exposures. To date, no data are available on the obesogen effects of BPS in a mutligenerational issue. Objectives : We investigated obesogen effects of BPS in a multigenerational study by focusing on body weight, adipose tissue and plasma parameters in male and female mice. Methods : Pregnant C57BL6/J mice were exposed to BPS (1.5 μg/kg bw/day ie a human equivalent dose of 0.12 μg/kg bw/day) by drinking water from gestational day 0 to post natal day 21. All offsprings were fed with a high fat diet during 15 weeks. Body weight was monitored weekly and fat…
Prevalence estimation of celiac disease in the general adult population of Latvia using serology and HLA genotyping
2015
Background: Prevalence estimates for celiac disease (CD) depend on the method used. The role of deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) and genetic testing in epidemiological studies and diagnostic settings of celiac disease (CD) has still to be established. Objectives: The objective of this article is to assess the prevalence of CD in Latvia by combining serological tests with DQ2.5/ DQ8 testing. Methods: A total of 1444 adults from a randomly selected cross-sectional general population sample were tested by ELISA for tTG IgA, DGP IgA and IgG antibodies (QUANTA Lite, Inova Diagnostics Inc). Samples with tTG IgA 20U were tested for EMA IgA by indirect immunofluorescence assay, and all specimens wi…
The Effects of Intensive Weight Reduction on Body Composition and Serum Hormones in Female Fitness Competitors.
2017
Worries about the potential negative consequences of popular fat loss regimens for aesthetic purposes in normal weight females have been surfacing in the media. However, longitudinal studies investigating these kinds of diets are lacking. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of a 4-month fat-loss diet in normal weight females competing in fitness-sport. In total 50 participants finished the study with 27 females (27.2 +/- 4.1 years) dieting for a competition and 23 (27.7 +/- 3.7 years) acting as weight-stable controls. The energy deficit of the diet group was achieved by reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing aerobic exercise while maintaining a high level of…
Definitive Abutments Placed at Implant Insertion and Never Removed: Is It an Effective Approach? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized …
2017
Purpose To assess whether repeated abutment disconnections and reconnections have any impact on peri-implant bone resorption and soft tissue healing. Materials and Methods Electronic and manual searches were conducted for English-language articles published up to March 2017 that identified a relation between repeated disconnections of implant abutments (PA group) and prosthetic or implant failures, complications, marginal bone loss (MBL), soft tissue healing, and esthetic evaluation (pink esthetic score [PES]) after at least 1 year of function compared with implants receiving a final abutment at the time of implant placement (DA group). Results Fourteen articles (535 patients with 994 impla…
Effect of Physical Training on Enzyme Activities of Bones, Tendons and Skeletal Muscles in Mice
1975
According to several recent papers the activity of some enzymes of energy yielding metabolic pathways increases by endurance training in muscles, but it is not yet known whether similar changes occur also in connective tissues. Some structural, chemical, physical and metabolic changes, however, appear in connective tissues during adaptation to physical exercise. Physical training produces hypertrophy of e.g. tendon and articular cartilage in young rabbits [6] and increases the tensile strength of tendons and breaking strength of bones in growing mice [7]. The level of physical activity affects the turnover of collagen in long bones and Achilles tendons of mice [4] and also affects the miner…
