Stamping of monomeric SAMs as a route to structured crystallization templates: patterned titania films.
2000
Gold-coated glass slides have be patterned by using self-assembled monolayers (SAM) of alkane thiols. Through the use of a special thiol terminated with a styrene monomer, microstructures of 5 to 10 microm width and 70 A height have been formed on the surface by graft polymerization of styrene. These patterned gold slides have then been used to template the precipitation of thin titania films from ethanolic solutions of titanium isopropoxide to create microstructured architectures in the film. Plasmon resonance spectra have established the presence of different steps in the process and have been used to follow the kinetics of the precipitation of titania on the surface. The structured TiO2 …
Semi-empirical simulations of surface relaxation for perovskite titanates
2000
The (100) and (110) surface relaxations are calculated for SrTiO 3 and BaTiO 3 perovskite thin films. By means of a semi-empirical shell model, the positions of atoms in 16 near-surface layers placed atop a slab of rigid ions are calculated. Surface rumpling and surface-induced dipole moments are calculated for all possible surface terminations. Our results for the (100) surface structure are in good agreement with ab-initio plane-wave pseudopotential calculations and LEED experiments. The surface energy for the Ba-, Sr-, TiO-terminated (110) surfaces is found to be much larger than that for the (100) surface. In contrast, the surface energy for the asymmetric O termination, where outermost…
Preparation and photoactivity of nanocrystalline TiO2 powders obtained by thermohydrolysis of TiOSO4
2013
Nanocrystalline TiO2 photocatalysts were synthesized in mild conditions by thermohydrolysis of TiOSO4 in water at 100 °C and post-calcination treatment at various temperatures. The TiO2 powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, specific surface area determinations, scanning electron microscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements. The photoactivity of the samples was tested employing the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol in liquid–solid regimen and the photooxidation of gaseous 2-propanol. The best results were obtained with the powder calcined at 600 °C for 10 h. Surprisingly, the not calcined sample was the most active for the abatement…
Surface composition analysis during the oxidation of ferrites: A necessity
1998
The cationic composition of a titanium ferrite (Fe 2.5 Ti 0.5 O 4 ) has been followed by XPS during its oxidation in cation deficient phases (without crystallographic transformation) in order to reveal a dynamic segregation phenomenon. Indeed, during this oxidation, an important modification of the chemical composition of the first layers of the material has been revealed: below 350 °C, the titanium ferrites surface becomes richer in iron and poorer in titanium. But, if the reaction is extended above 400 °C, some titanium can move to the surface. This phenomenon has been interpreted on the basis of the differences of mobility of the different ions which are present in the material. Finally,…
A Supramolecular Chiral Auxiliary Approach: “Remote Control ”of Stereochemistry at a Hierarchically Assembled Dimeric Helicate
2016
Dimeric hierarchically-assembled titanium(IV) helicates are in solvent-dependent equilibrium with the corresponding monomers. Statistically formed mixtures of such complexes bearing chiral stereocontrolling ligands and achiral diene-substituted ligands show high diastereoselectivity and reasonable enantioselectivity in the Diels-Alder reaction with maleimides if the reaction proceeds with the dimer but not with the monomer. Thus, solvent dependent switching between the monomer and dimer enables on/off switching of the enantioselectivity.
Synthèses optimisées et caractérisations avancées de nanotubes de titanate et de leurs fonctionnalisations : vers l'élaboration de nanovecteurs de mo…
2017
The aim of this PhD thesis is to develop new nanohybrids based on titanate nanotubes (TiONts) in order to use them as nanocarrier of a therapeutic molecule: a stilbene phenol, 4'-hydroxy-4-(3-aminopropoxy)-trans-stilbene (HAPtS), which is a transresveratrol derivative.TiONts are synthesized by a hydrothermal treatment from a precursor of rutile titanium dioxide. Two methods of hydrothermal synthesis have been studied (the static and dynamic ones): the second approach uses an original hydrothermal device which provides a vigorous mechanical stirring during the hydrothermal process with controllable stirring time par hour. A parametric study was carried out to evaluate the effect of reaction …
Visible-light driven oxidation of gaseous aliphatic alcohols to the corresponding carbonyls via TiO2 sensitized by a perylene derivative
2013
Sensitized P25 TiO2 was prepared by wet impregnation with a home-prepared perylene dye, i.e., N,N?-bis(2-(1- piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPER). Energy levels of PZPER were found to be compatible with those of TiO2 allowing fast electron transfer. The obtained catalyst has been characterized and used in the gas-phase partial oxidation of aliphatic primary and secondary alcohols, i.e., methanol, ethanol, and 2- propanol. The reaction was carried out under cut-off (?> 400 nm) simulated solar radiation in O2 atmosphere. The perylene derivative allowed a good absorbance of visible radiation thanks to its low optical energy gap (2.6 eV) which was …
Towards a revisitation of vesuvianite-group nomenclature: the crystal structure of Ti-rich vesuvianite from Alchuri, Shigar Valley
2016
Vesuvianite containing 5.85 wt% TiO2from an Alpine-cleft-type assemblage outcropped near Alchuri, Shigar Valley, Northern Areas, has been investigated by means of electron microprobe analyses, gas-chromatographic analysis of H2O, X-ray powder diffraction, single-crystal X-ray structure refinement,27Al NMR,57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and optical measurements. Tetragonal unit-cell parameters are:a= 15.5326 (2),c= 11.8040 (2) Å, space groupP4/nnc. The structure was refined to finalR1= 0.031,wR2= 0.057 for 11247I> 2σ(I). A general crystal-chemical formula of studied sample can be written as follows (Z= 2):[8–9](Ca17.1Na0.9)[8]Ca1.0[5](Fe2+0.44Fe3+0.34Mg0.22)[6](Al3.59Mg0.41)…
Synthesis and characterization of titanium(IV) complexes containing the diphenylphosphino- and diphenylthiophosphoryl-functionalized cyclopentadienyl…
2000
The trimethylsilyl cyclopentadiene derivative C5H4(SiMe3)PPh2 (1) was treated with TiCl4 to give the air- and moisture-sensitive mono(cyclopentadienyl) compound Ti(η5-C5H4PPh2)Cl3 (4). Reaction of 4 with Mg(CH2C6H5)2(THF)2 gave Ti(η5-C5H4PPh2)(CH2C6H5)3 (5). Reactions of the lithium and thallium derivatives M{C5H4P(S)Ph2} (M=Li (2), Tl (3)) with one equiv. of TiCl4 afforded the mono(cyclopentadienyl) complex Ti{η5-C5H4P(S)Ph2}Cl3 (6), whereas reaction with 0.5 equiv. of TiCl4 gave the bis(cyclopentadienyl) complex Ti{η5-C5H4P(S)Ph2}2Cl2 (8). Compound 6 was also isolated as a minor product from the reaction of Ti{η5-C5H4P(S)Ph2}2Cl2 (8) with one equiv. of TiCl4. The major product was identif…
Organometallic Titanocene–Gold Compounds as Potential Chemotherapeutics in Renal Cancer. Study of their Protein Kinase Inhibitory Properties
2014
Early–late transition metal TiAu2 compounds [(η-C5H5)2Ti{OC(O)CH2PPh2AuCl}2] (3) and new [(η-C5H5)2Ti{OC(O)-4-C6H4PPh2AuCl}2] (5) were evaluated as potential anticancer agents in vitro against renal and prostate cancer cell lines. The compounds were significantly more effective than monometallic titanocene dichloride and gold(I) [{HOC(O)RPPh2}AuCl] (R = −CH2– 6, −4-C6H4– 7) derivatives in renal cancer cell lines, indicating a synergistic effect of the resulting heterometallic species. The activity on renal cancer cell lines (for 5 in the nanomolar range) was considerably higher than that of cisplatin and highly active titanocene Y. Initial mechanistic studies in Caki-1 cells in vitro couple…
