A multi-step mechanism and integrity of titanate nanoribbons.

A one-step hydrothermal treatment of TiO2 powders under strongly basic conditions has been used to synthesize titanate nanoribbons. The nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized using several methods including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS) to determine their morphological, structural and chemical characteristics. The influence of the nature and size of the TiO2 precursor and of the reaction duration on the formation of the nanoribbons was investigated. Intrinsic Nature of the Excess Electron Distribution at theTiO2(110)Surface

The gap state that appears upon reduction of TiO2 plays a key role in many of titania's interesting properties but its origin and spatial localization have remained unclear. In the present work, the TiO2(110) surface is reduced in a chemically controlled way by sodium adsorption. By means of resonant photoelectron diffraction, excess electrons are shown to be distributed mainly on subsurface Ti sites strikingly similar to the defective TiO2(110) surface, while any significant contribution from interstitial Ti ions is discarded. Inorganic gels as precursors of TiO2 photocatalysts prepared by low temperature microwave or thermal treatment

Abstract A simple procedure for preparing active TiO2 photocatalysts is presented. The starting materials were unusual TiO2 gels formed from TiCl4. The use of microwaves for a very short time enhanced the TiO2 crystallinity preventing an increase of particle size and minimizing the decrease of specific surface area. This result makes this preparation very attractive. The formation of the gels was monitored through measurements of viscosity. All the samples were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and BET specific surface area measurements. The use of titanium alloys in many applications (transport, energy, chemistry,...) allows significant weight savings in relation to the good mechanical properties/density ratio of these materials. Photocatalytic ozonation under visible light for the remediation of water effluents and its integration with an electro-membrane bioreactor

Abstract Photocatalysis and photocatalytic ozonation under visible light have been applied for the purification of a complex aqueous matrix such as the grey water of Masdar City (UAE), by using N-doped brookite-rutile catalysts. Preliminary runs on 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) solutions allowed to test the reaction system in the presence of a model pollutant and to afford the relevant kinetic parameters of the process. Subsequently, the remediation of grey water effluent has been evaluated in terms of the reduction of total organic carbon (TOC) and bacterial counts. Representative major element compositions of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from ultrapotassic rocks from Nangqian basin (Eastern Tibet)

Representative major element compositions (in wt%) of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from Nangqian ultrapotassic rocks. In-situ major-element compositions of mineral phases were obtained using the JEOL JXA-8230 Electron Microprobe at ISTerre, University Grenoble Alpes. Analytical conditions were 15 kV accelerating voltage and 12 nA beam current. The ZAF procedure was applied to reduce the raw data. The microprobe was calibrated using natural and synthetic standards. An X-ray element map of a calcite-bearing aggregate was acquired using 15 kV accelerating voltage and 10 nA beam current.
