Comparison of the friction and wear properties of titanium and oxidised titanium in dry sliding against sintered high speed steel HS18-0-1 and agains…

2005

Abstract The paper presents the results of conformal pin-on-disc tribological tests concerning the hard oxidised zone, α-Ti(O), created at the surface of a titanium specimens sliding against the sintered and hardened up to 850 HV30, Grade T1 high speed steel (HS18-0-1) counterspecimens. Comparison with the results obtained for the tests performed against hardened up to 620 HV30 C45 carbon steel counterspecimens has been done. Testing was carried out at room temperature and at unlubricated conditions. After tests the structures and compositions of the worn surfaces and wear debris were a subject of LOM, SEM observations and X-ray microanalyses. In comparison with the baseline—the Ti/T1 HSS c…

Friction and wear properties of titanium and oxidised titanium in dry sliding against hardened C45 steel

2004

Abstract The aim of the paper is to present the results of conformal pin-on-disc tribological tests concerning the hard oxidised zone created in superficial layer of a titanium specimen sliding against the hardened to a hardness of 690 HV carbon C45 steel counterspecimen. Tribological testing was carried out at room temperature and at unlubricated conditions. After tests the structures and chemical compositions of the wear debris and worn surfaces were a subject of SEM and X-ray investigations. In comparison with the baseline the technical quality titanium/C45 steel couple, the wear and lifetime performance of the oxidised titanium/steel C45couple was markedly superior. Dominant wear debris…

Titanate nanotubes: towards a novel and safer nanovector for cardiomyocytes.

2012

Actively contractile cardiomyocyte (CM) monolayer represents an interesting tool to study both cardiac diseases and injuries. However, this model is poorly transfectable with conventional agents. Consequently, there is a need to develop new carriers that could overcome this problem. Titanate nanotubes (TiONts) could be a potential candidate due to possibly higher cell uptake as a direct consequence of their shape. On the basis of this rationale, TiONts were assessed for their cytotoxicity and internalization pathways. Cytotoxicity was assessed for TiONts either functionalized with PEI or unfunctionalized and its spherical counterpart P25 TiO2. No cytotoxic effect was observed under TiONts, …

The Preparation and the Characterisation of some Ternary Titanium Oxide Pkotocatalysts.

1987

TiO 2 catalysts, of moderate surface areas and minimal porosities, containing various nominal quantities of iron have been prepared. E.s.r spectra indicate that Fe 3+ is well dispersed in coprecipitated samples, and in impregnated Tioxide samples, when the iron concentration is

Numerical simulation of linear fiction welding (LFW) processes

2011

Solid state welding processes are becoming increasingly important due to a large number of advantages related to joining ''unweldable'' materials and in particular light weight alloys. Linear friction welding (LFW) has been used successfully to bond non-axisymmetric components of a range of materials including titanium alloys, steels, aluminum alloys, nickel, copper, and also dissimilar material combinations. The technique is useful in the research of quality of the joints and in reducing costs of components and parts of the aeronautic and automotive industries.LFW involves parts to be welded through the relative reciprocating motion of two components under an axial force. In such process t…

Metallurgical Evolutions in Hot Forging of Dual Phase Titanium Alloys: Numerical Simulation and Experiments

2015

Titanium forging has been encountering a growing interest in the scientific and industrial communities because of the distinct advantages it provides with respect to machining, in terms of both mechanical properties of the product and material waste, thus significantly reducing the Buy to Fly ratio. In the paper, a numerical FE model, based on a tri-coupled approach and able to predict the microstructural evolutions of the workpiece during the process, is developed and set up. Calculated results are compared to experiments for a few industrial case studies. The final phases distribution in the forged parts is experimentally measured and compared to the FE model output finding satisfying ove…

Evidence of quantum phase slip effect in titanium nanowires

2012

Electron transport properties of titanium nanowires were experimentally studied. Below the effective diameter $\lesssim$ 50 nm all samples demonstrated a pronounced broadening of the $R(T)$ dependencies, which cannot be accounted for thermal flcutuations. An extensive microscopic and elemental analysis indicates the absence of structural or/and geometrical imperfection capable to broaden the the $R(T)$ transition to such an extent. We associate the effect with quantum flucutuations of the order parameter.

Machinability of Engineering Materials

2008

Chapter 13 provides comprehensive knowledge regarding machinability of construction materials and characterizes various meanings of this specific material feature, allowing effective selection of machining conditions. Factors affecting machinability and typical causes of low machinability are discussed. Three groups of machinability criteria are selected, including basic, substitutive and auxiliary ones. In particular, the cutting speed corresponding to economic or high productivity criteria and obtainable surface roughness are distinguished as basic machinability criteria. Relative and absolute machining rating systems are highlighted, and appropriate material groups and values of the mach…

Synthesis and catalytic performance in ethylene and 1-octene polymerization of chlorotitanium(IV) silsesquioxane complexes. Effect of increasing liga…

2016

Abstract The series of titanasilsesquioxanes that differ in a way of binding to the transition metal ( via one, two or three oxygen atoms) and type of nonreactive substituents bonded to inorganic oxygen-silicon cage ( i -Bu, Ph, c -C 6 H 11 ) were prepared by reacting of TiCl 4 with 1 eqv. of the silsesquioxane ligand. Upon treatment with an appropriate cocatalyst, all titanium precatalysts are active in ethylene and 1-octene polymerization and produce from low to high molecular weight polyethylenes and moderately ([ mmmm ] = 44–74%) isotactic poly(1-octene)s. The influence of polymerization parameters, type of cocatalyst and the silsesquioxane structure on the catalytic behavior of the tit…
