A POLYCARBOXYLIC/AMINO FUNCTIONALIZED HYALURONIC ACID DERIVATIVE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF pH SENSIBLE HYDROGELS IN THE PREVENTION OF BACTERIAL ADHESION …

2014

A graft copolymer derivative of hyaluronic acid bearing pendant amino and short polymethacrylate portions (HA-EDA-BMP-MANa) has been employed for the production of a pH sensible vancomycin releasing hydrogel and studied in vitro to test its potential anti adhesive property against Staphylococcus aureus colonization. The copolymer obtained through atom transfer radical polymerization bears chargeable (carboxyl and amino groups) portions and it could be formulated as a hydrogel at a concentration of 10% w/v. The HA-EDA-BMP-MANa hydrogels, produced at three different pH values (5, 6 and 7, respectively), were formulated with or without the addition of vancomycin (2% w/v). The vancomycin releas…

New intermediates for the synthesis of olefin polymerization catalysts: the complexes [M2(µ-Cl)2Cl4(thf)4](M = Ti or V, thf = tetrahydrofuran); Cryst…

1993

The dimeric titanium(III) and vanadium(III) complexes [M2(µ-Cl)2Cl4(thf)4](M = Ti 1 or V 2, thf = tetrahydrofuran) have been prepared by recrystallization of [MCl3(thf)3] from dichloromethane. In the dimers, composed of slightly distorted edge-sharing octahedra, the metal atoms separated by Ti ⋯ Ti and V ⋯ V distances of 3.711 (3) and 3.619(1)A, respectively, are surrounded by two terminal Cl atoms, two oxygen atoms of thf molecules and are linked by two bridging Cl atoms. The geometry around the titanium atoms differs from that around vanadium because the thf molecules and the terminal chlorine atoms are differently located with respect to the bridging chlorine atoms of the M2(µ-Cl)2 unit.…

Linked Amido—Cyclopentadienyl Complexes of Group 3 and 4 Metals: The First “Post-Metallocenes”

1999

Linked amido—cyclopentadienyl ligands were introduced by Bercaw and Shapiro in the late eighties with the catalysts of the type Sc(η5:η1-C5Me4SiMe2N t Bu)X (X = H, alkyl) [1]. These electronically more unsaturated and sterically more accessible analogs of ansa-scandocene complexes were found to be capable of catalyzing the living oligomerization of the α-olefins propylene, 1-butene, and 1-pentene. In these complexes the steric constraint [2] of Brintzinger-type ansa-metallocenes is alleviated by the replacement of one cyclopentadienyl ligand by an amido ligand NR’ (Scheme 1). In order to explore sterically demanding derivatives of this dianionic ligand (C5R4ZNR’)2-, iron and titanium comple…

A spatially resolved investigation of oxygen adsorption on polycrystalline copper and titanium by means of photoemission electron microscopy

2004

Abstract The interaction of oxygen with polycrystalline copper and titanium surfaces was studied by means of photoemission electron microscopy. Variations in the image brightness were used to determine the work function of different Cu crystallites. The change of the work function was monitored during oxygen adsorption on both, Cu and Ti. Those changes are smooth for Cu whereas different Ti crystallites exhibit a rather complicated behavior during oxygen adsorption. The transformation of brightness versus exposure curves into work function versus coverage curves allows to determine the initial dipole moment of the adsorbed oxygen atoms. A value of about 20 mD was found for O on Cu(1 1 0). V…

Adsorption and Conformation Behavior of Biotinylated Fibronectin on Streptavidin-Modified TiOX Surfaces Studied by SPR and AFM

2011

It is well-known that protein-modified implant surfaces such as TiO(2) show a higher bioconductivity. Fibronectin is a glycoprotein from the extracellular matrix (ECM) with a major role in cell adhesion. It can be applied on titanium oxide surfaces to accelerate implant integration. Not only the surface concentration but also the presentation of the protein plays an important role for the cellular response. We were able to show that TiO(X) surfaces modified with biotinylated fibronectin adsorbed on a streptavidin-silane self-assembly multilayer system are more effective regarding osteoblast adhesion than surfaces modified with nonspecifically bound fibronectin. The adsorption and conformati…

Streptavidin-coated TiO2 surfaces are biologically inert: Protein adsorption and osteoblast adhesion studies

2011

Non-fouling TiO2 surfaces are attractive for a wide range of applications such as biosensors and medical devices, where biologically inert surfaces are needed. Typically, this is achieved by controlled surface modifications which prevent protein adsorption. For example, polyethylene glycol (PEG) or PEG-derived polymers have been widely applied to render TiO2 surfaces biologically inert. These surfaces have been further modified in order to achieve specific bio-activation. Therefore, there have been efforts to specifically functionalize TiO2 surfaces with polymers with embedded biotin motives, which can be used to couple streptavidin for further functionalization. As an alternative, here a s…

Layer-by-Layer Assembly of a Streptavidin–Fibronectin Multilayer on Biotinylated TiOX

2013

The biomodification of surfaces, especially titanium, is an important issue in current biomedical research. Regarding titanium, it is also important to ensure a specific protein modification of its surface because here protein binding that is too random can be observed. Specific nanoscale architectures can be applied to overcome this problem. As recently shown, streptavidin can be used as a coupling agent to immobilize biotinylated fibronectin (bFn) on a TiO(X) surface. Because of the conformation of adsorbed biotinylated fibronectin on a streptavidin monolayer, it is possible to adsorb more streptavidin and biotinylated fibronectin layers. On this basis, an alternating protein multilayer c…

Influence of Heat Treatment on Fatigue Crack Growth in Ti-6Al-4V Alloy

2011

The paper contains the results of experimental work carried out in order to analyse the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks in Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. The tests were performed on plane specimens with the stress concentrators in form of one-sided sharp notches. The tested specimens were made of the oxygenated Ti-6Al-4V subjected to various variants of heat treatment.
