Sequestering Ability of Aminopolycarboxylic (APCs) and Aminopolyphosphonic (APPs) Ligands Toward Palladium(II) in Aqueous Solution

2014

The binding capacity of three aminopolycarboxylates [nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), ethylene-glycol-bis(2-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N,N-tetraacetic acid (EGTA), and diethylenetriamine-N,N,N,NN-pentaacetic acid (DTPA)] and two aminopolyphosphonates {(1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diyl)bis(phosphonic acid) (HEDP) and [[(phosphonomethyl)imino]bis[2,1-ethanediylnitrilobis(methylene)]] tetrakis-phosphonic acid (DTPP)} toward palladium(II) ion was studied by potentiometric and spectrophotometric titrations at different temperatures (283.15 ≤ T/K ≤ 318.15) and ionic strengths (0.1 ≤ I/mol·dm -3 ≤ 1.0) in NaClO4. The hydrolysis of Pd2+ and the protonation of ligands were always taken into account in the speciation…

p-Nitrophenolate: A Probe for Determining Acid Strength in Ionic Liquids

2009

In order to obtain an acidity scale in room-temperature ionic liquid solutions, the protonation equilibrium of sodium p-nitrophenolate in [bm(2)im][NTf(2)] and in [bmpyrr][NTf(2)], at 298 K, has been studied by means of spectrophotometric titration. Carboxylic acids differing in both structure and in water solution strength have been used. Data collected indicate that in the analyzed ionic liquid solutions carboxylic acids are less dissociated than in water solution. Furthermore, by virtue of a mutual interaction, the studied equilibrium seems to be affected by both the nature of the ionic liquids and the carboxylic acids.

Speciation of tin(II) in aqueous solution: thermodynamic and spectroscopic study of simple and mixed hydroxocarboxylate complexes

2013

This contribution reports the results of potentiometric and Mossbauer investigations on the formation, stability, and structure of binary and ternary mono- and binuclear complexes of Sn2+ with three hydroxocarboxylic ligands (namely L = tartrate, malate, and citrate) and chloride at T = 298.15 K in different ionic media and ionic strengths (0.15 and 1.00 mol dm−3 in NaCl(aq) and 1.00 mol dm−3 in NaNO3(aq)). The stability constants of various simple Sn i H j L (2+−) and mixed Sn i H j L k Cl (2+−−) species obtained in the different experimental conditions are reported, and various speciation diagrams of the simple and mixed systems are shown in different conditions. The sequestering ability …

Speciation of Low Molecular Weight Carboxylic Ligands in Natural Fluids: Protonation Constants and Association with Major Components of Seawater of O…

1999

Abstract The interaction of oxydiacetate and citrate with the major components of seawater has been studied potentiometrically, at 25°C, in an artificial seawater (containing Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl− and SO42−) at different salinities (5–45‰). Apparent protonation constants were calculated, from potentiometric data, and estimated, using an appropriate complex formation model. Formation constants of complexes formed by oxydiacetate and citrate and the cation of seawater (the inorganic content of seawater being considered as a single 1 : 1 salt) were determined. The single salt approximation for the major inorganic components of seawater, which is a good tool in estimating the mean strength o…

Equilibria involved in the diorganotin(IV) and triorganotin(IV) phosphomycin interaction in aqueous solution

2007

Four new diorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Bu), and triorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Ph), derivatives of the phosphomycin disodium salt antibiotic[(1R,2S)-1,2-epoxypropylphosphonate]Na2 have been synthesized and their solid state configuration studied by X-ray crystallography, FT-IR, Mossbauer, UV–Vis spectroscopies. The X-ray diffraction investigation, performed on the bis[trimethyltin(IV)]- phosphomycin, showed that the coordination geometry at all the Sn atoms is trigonal bipyramidal. The structure of the complex forms an unusual polymeric zig-zag planar network. The FT-IR and the 119Sn Mo¨ssbauer studies supported the formation of trigonal bipyramidal (Tbp) molecular structures, both in the diorganot…

Equilibrium studies in natural fluids: interactions of -PO43−, -P2O74−and -P3O105−with the major constituents of sea water

1998

AbstractThe interaction of PiO(i+2)−(3i+1) (i = 1,2,3) with the major components of seawater has been studied potentiometrically, at 25°C, in an artificial seawater (Na+, K, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl− and SO42−) at different salinities (5—45%o). Apparent protonation constants have been calculated, from potentiometric data, and estimated, using an appropriate complex formation model. Formation constants of complexes formed by phosphates and the cation of seawater (the inorganic content of seawater being considered as a single 1:1 salt) have been determined. The comparison between experimental and estimated results showed that a suitable complexation model can be used with a fairly good accuracy in pred…

Complexation of planar, organic, five-membered cations with crown ethers

2000

Complexation of six aromatic, nitrogen-containing cations with various crown ethers has been studied using 1H NMR, mass spectrometric and crystallographic methods. Hydrogen bonding appears to be the most important interaction in complexation, but minor effects such as π-stacking or cation–π interactions have also been observed. The stability constants of five different imidazolium perchlorate ·crown ether complexes and five other similar cation·DB18C6 complexes were determined by 1H NMR titration in acetonitrile solution. The stability of these complexes in solution and in the gas phase is discussed. The crystal structures of seven complexes were determined in order to study complexation in…

Cation and anion recognition characteristics of open-chain polyamines containing ethylenic and propylenic chains

2002

Abstract The interaction of the polyamines 4,7,10,13-tetraazahexadecane-1,16-diamine (L1) and 4,7,10-triazatridecane-1,13-diamine (L2) with H + , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ , Co 2+ and the nucleotides ATP, ADP and AMP has been followed by NMR and potentiometric studies performed at 298.1 K in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaClO 4 . The influence of the different sequences of hydrocarbon chains and chelate rings present in the ligands on the values of the protonation constants, the stability of the metal ion complexes as well as in the co-ordination to nucleotides is analysed. The formation of mixed complexes has been investigated for the system Cu 2+ –L1–AMP.

Synthesis and Cu(II) coordination of two new hexaamines containing alternated propylenic and ethylenic chains: Kinetic studies on pH-driven metal ion…

2006

Abstract The synthesis of the open-chain and cyclic polyamines, 1,5,8,12,15,19-hexaazaheptadecane (L1) and 2,6,9,13,16,20-hexaaza[21]-(2,6)-pyridinophane (L2), are described. The protonation constants and interaction constants with Cu(II) have been determined by potentiometric measurements carried out at 298.1 K in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaClO 4 . The values obtained are discussed as a function of the open-chain or cyclic nature of the ligands and compared with analogous polyamines containing different sets of hydrocarbon chains between the nitrogen donors. Kinetic studies on the acid-promoted dissociation of the Cu(II) complexes indicate that the mono and binuclear complexes of L1 decompose with d…

Synthesis, Protonation and Cu II Complexes of Two Novel Isomeric Pentaazacyclophane Ligands: Potentiometric, DFT, Kinetic and AMP Recognition Studies

2008

The synthesis and coordination chemistry of two novel ligands, 2,6,9,12,16-pentaaza[17]metacyclophane (L1) and 2,6,9,12,16-pentaaza[17]paracyclophane (L2), is described. Potentiometric studies indicate that L1 and L2 form a variety of mononuclear complexes the stability constants of which reveal a change in the denticity of the ligand when moving from L1 to L2, a behaviour that can be qualitatively explained by the inability of the paracyclophanes to simultaneously use both benzylic nitrogen atoms for coordination to a single metal centre. In contrast, the formation of dinuclear hydroxylated complexes is more favoured for the paraL2 ligand. DFT calculations have been carried out to compare …
