Thermodynamics of cyclodextrin-star copolymer threading-dethreading process
2015
We investigated the interactions of a star-like copolymer with cyclodextrins (CD) with different cavity size. Direct measurements of thermodynamic properties were done, and the application of proper molecular models was useful for the interpretation of the involved phenomena. The CD–copolymer inclusion complexes were characterized by isothermal titration calorimetry. The copolymer aggregation induced by temperature was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, volume and compressibility measurements. The behavior of the ternary T1107/CD/water mixture was interpreted considering competing equilibria. The investigated systems showed an interesting temperature responsive behavior so t…
Encapsulation of secondary and tertiary ammonium salts by resorcinarenes and pyrogallarenes: the effect of size and charge concentration
2015
The binding of different categories of alkyl ammonium (secondary and tertiary mono- and di-ammonium) salts with resorcinarenes and a pyrogallarene through weak interactions was analysed in all phases. 1H NMR spectroscopy and electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry were utilized in analysing the complexes in solution and in the gas phase, respectively. The 1H NMR titration studies in methanol-d4 reveal that the association constants for the 1:1 complexes vary according to the electronic properties of the hosts as well as the size, geometric orientation and charge concentration of the guest cations with binding constants of up to 950 M−1 in some cases. Mass spectrometry reveals 1:1 monomeri…
Complexation of enantiomerically pure tetraalkylammonium cations by ethyl resorcinarene
2013
Molecular recognition via weak interactions of three enantiopure tetraalkylammonium cations 2–4 by ethyl resorcinarene 1 was studied in the solid state using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, in solution by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR) titration and in the gas phase using electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry. The 1H NMR titration studies reveal the association constants for the 1:1 complexes to vary according to the size and electronic properties of the alkyl groups of the guest cations. In the solid state, the resorcinarene is deprotonated and the X-ray structure confirms the 1:1 complex 2+@1− to be held together by multiple cation…π and C–H…π interactions.…
Recognition of N-Alkyl- and N-Aryl-Acetamides by N-Alkyl Ammonium Resorcinarene Chlorides
2014
N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene chlorides are stabilized by an intricate array of intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds that leads to cavitand-like structures. Depending on the upper-rim substituents, self-inclusion was observed in solution and in the solid state. The self-inclusion can be disrupted at higher temperatures, whereas in the presence of small guests the self-included dimers spontaneously reorganize to 1:1 host-guest complexes. These host compounds show an interesting ability to bind a series of N-alkyl acetamide guests through intermolecular hydrogen bonds involving the carbonyl oxygen (C=O) atoms and the amide (NH) groups of the guests, the chloride anions (Cl(-)) and ammoni…
Direct potentiometric immunoelectrodes
1993
TK pencil fine mines type Faber Castell Super polymer from Staedtler are used as graphite based material for an atrazine-sensitive immunoelectrode. Eighteen procedures are tested to immobilize antibodies against atrazine but only one turned out to be useful for the preparation of a graphite based immunoelectrode. It incorporates binding of glutardialdehyde to active sites of the graphite surface and subsequent cross-linking of the antibodies with glutardialdehyde. The method has been carefully optimized with respect to selectivity and the cross-sensitivity is determined for such an electrode based on atrazine-rabbit and atrazine-sheep antibodies as well. Due to the structural difference of …
Protonation, coordination chemistry, cyanometallate "supercomplex" formation and fluorescence chemosensing properties of a bis(2,2'-bipyridino)cyclop…
2013
A new polyazamacrocycle (L) containing two 2,2'-bipyridino (bpy) units, where the heteroaromatic nitrogen atoms point outwards from the macrocyclic cavity, was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, ESI-MS, (1)H and (13)C NMR, FTIR and TGA. Five protonation constants involving aliphatic nitrogens with log K in the range 9.39-3.07 were determined by potentiometry and NMR and a sixth protonation (log K = 2.2) involving a bipyridine moiety could be detected by UV-Vis and NMR titrations. The interaction of L with the cyanometallate anions [Pt(CN)4](2-) and [Co(CN)6](3-) was studied by potentiometry yielding respectively log K values in the ranges 4.0-6.4 and 5.2-10.5, covering pro…
PolyAT chemical denaturation in w/o microemulsion
2004
CD and UV spectroscopies have been used to investigate the effects caused by the addition of either strong acid-or base-containing microemulsions on the behaviour of the synthetic polynucleotide polyAT entrapped in the aqueous core of a cationic quaternary water-in-oil microemulsion (μE). The titrations were performed in the presence of variable concentrations of NaCl, in the range 0.00 to 0.60 M. In both cases, the primary effect was the reversible transition from B-double helix to random coil of the guest polynucleotide. However, in the microemulsive medium, the number of moles of protons (RH) and hydroxide ions (ROH) per mole of titrable sites are independent of the salt concentration bu…
Lineare polyester mit carboxylendgruppen und deren bestimmung
1955
Synthesis, characterisation and properties of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide-graft-maleic anhydride precursors and their stimuli-responsiv…
2009
Abstract A family of poly(amino acid)-maleic anhydride hydrogels were designed and synthesized. Water soluble polymeric precursors were prepared by partially substituting the hydroxyl groups of the α,β-poly( N -2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide backbone with maleic anhydride, so as to provide double bonds for crosslinking and carboxylic acid groups for pH and electric field responsiveness. Reaction conditions (reactive mixture composition and catalysis) were systematically varied in order to obtain PHEA–MA precursors with different and reliable graft-maleic anhydride levels. PHEA–MA precursors were characterised by titration, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance ( 1 H NMR), Fourier-Transformed Infrare…
Synthesis and properties of aromatic ionenes
1993
Cationic polyelectrolytes with aromatic segments can be synthesized by a repetitive alkylation reaction. The structure of the products, their synthesis and their solubility are described. All ionenes are not, or only in small amounts, water soluble. The best solubility can be achieved by mixtures of polar protic and aprotic solvents. Variations of the counterion produces sufficient solubility in THF. All ionenes show a typical polyelectrolyte effect. The thermal stability of aromatic ionenes and the glass transition temperature is dominated by the nature of the counterion. The molecular weight of oligomers can be described by using a combination of a conductive titration method and an ion s…
