Abstract. Dehydration in the Antarctic winter stratosphere is a well-known phenomenon that is annually observed by satellites and occasionally observed by balloon-borne measurements. However, in situ measurements of dehydrated air masses in the Antarctic vortex are very rare. Here, we present detailed observations with the in situ and GLORIA remote sensing instrument payload aboard the German aircraft HALO. Strongly dehydrated air masses down to 1.6 ppmv of water vapor were observed as far north as 47° S in an altitude between 12 and 13 km in the lowermost stratosphere. Latvijā ir augsta saslimstība ar sirds un asinsvadu slimībām un mirstība no tām (55%). Šo slimību ārstēšanā tiek izmantoti statīni jeb HMG CoA reduktāzes inhibitori. Darbojoties kā HMG CoA reduktāzes inhibitori, statīni nobloķē mevalonskābes sintēzi un visu no tās bioķīmiski atvasināto savienojumu rašanos, tai skaitā Q10, poliprenolu un doliholu sintēzi, kas varētu ietekmēt blaknes. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt, kāda tipa doliholi atrodas žurku muskuļos un aknās, izmērīt to līmeņus un noskaidrot A/s Biolat ražotā poliprenolu preperāta sastāvu ar lidojuma laika (TOF) metodi un hromatogrāfiju. The aim of this study was to identify predictors of the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in patients with head and neck cancers (HNCs). In total, 345 patients with HNCs were interviewed. A self-report questionnaire was administered to collect data about demographic characteristics, health status, smoking, alcohol consumption habits, and HRQoL. It were used the EORTC Instruments - Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30-questions (QLQ-C30), Quality of Life Questionnaire - Head and Neck Module 35-questions (QLQ-H&N 35) and OHIP-14 instrument for HRQoL assessments. Inhibition of denitrification and N2O emission by urine-derived benzoic and hippuric acid

Abstract Hippuric acid (HA) in cattle urine acts as a natural inhibitor of soil N2O emissions. As HA concentration varies with diet, we determined critical HA levels. We also tested the hypothesis that the inhibition occurs because the HA breakdown product benzoic acid (BA) inhibits denitrification rates. During a 64-day incubation, we quantified emissions from artificial urine varying in HA, BA and glycine (Gly) concentrations, added to a sandy pasture soil. Increasing HA concentration from 0.4 to 5.6 mmol kg−1 soil significantly decreased the average N2O flux by 54%. At 3.9 mmol kg−1 soil, denitrification levels were 50% reduced for BA as compared to Gly. We conclude that HA inhibits both…
