The Abelian Kernel of an Inverse Semigroup

The problem of computing the abelian kernel of a finite semigroup was first solved by Delgado describing an algorithm that decides whether a given element of a finite semigroup S belongs to the abelian kernel. Steinberg extended the result for any variety of abelian groups with decidable membership. In this paper, we used a completely different approach to complete these results by giving an exact description of the abelian kernel of an inverse semigroup. An abelian group that gives this abelian kernel was also constructed.

PROPAGATING INTERFACES IN A TWO-LAYER BISTABLE NEURAL NETWORK

The dynamics of propagating interfaces in a bistable neural network is investigated. We consider the network composed of two coupled 1D lattices and assume that they interact in a local spatial point (pin contact). The network unit is modeled by the FitzHugh–Nagumo-like system in a bistable oscillator mode. The interfaces describe the transition of the network units from the rest (unexcited) state to the excited state where each unit exhibits periodic sequences of excitation pulses or action potentials. Automorphisms of right-angled Artin groups

The purpose of this thesis is to study the automorphisms of right-angled Artin groups. Given a finite simplicial graph $\Gamma$, the right-angled Artin group $G_\Gamma$ associated to $\Gamma$ is the group defined by the presentation whose generators are the vertices of $\Gamma$, and whose relators are commutators of pairs of adjacent vertices. The first chapter is intended as a general introduction to the theory of right-angled Artin groups and their automorphisms. In a second chapter, we prove that every subnormal subgroup of $p$-power index in a right-angled Artin group is conjugacy $p$-separable. Independent isotopic yields in 25 MeV and 50 MeV proton-induced fission of natU

Independent isotopic yields for elements from Zn to La in the 25 MeV proton-induced fission of natUnatU were determined with the JYFLTRAP facility. In addition, isotopic yields for Zn, Ga, Rb, Sr, Zr, Pd and Xe in the 50 MeV proton-induced fission of natUnatU were measured. The deduced isotopic yield distributions are compared with a Rubchenya model, the GEF model with universal parameters and the semi-empirical Wahl model. Of these, the Rubchenya model gives the best overall agreement with the obtained data. Combining the isotopic yield data with mass yield data to obtain the absolute independent yields was attempted. Energeettisten protonien jarruuntuminen nestemäisessä vedessä

Tämän työn tarkoituksena oli mitata protonien jarruuntumiskyky nestemäisessä vedessä energia-alueella 4 - 20 MeV. Työssä käytettiin micro channel plate -pohjaisia lentoaikailmaisimia. Lopputulosten suhteelliset virheet vaihtelivat välillä 2,0 - 16,5 % mediaanin ollessa 4,2 % ja keskiarvon 5,3 %. Saadut tulokset olivat hyvässä sopusoinnussa ICRU:n raportin numero 49 antamien simuloitujen arvojen kanssa. Energialtaan 4 - 16 MeV protonien mitatut jarruuntumiskyvyt poikkesivat noin yhden prosentin tai vähemmän simuloiduista arvoista. Energia-alueella 16 - 20 MeV protonien mitatut jarruuntumiskyvyt olivat noin 4 - 8 % suuremmat kuin ICRU:n antamat simuloidut arvot. Mitattuja arvoja verrattiin my…

Specyfika podejścia Karla Jaspersa do sposobów poznania człowieka ujawniła się już w pierwszym okresie jego działalności, w pracach psychopatologicznych, w których rozumienie, uważane za metodę nauk humanistycznych, występowało łącznie z wyjaśnianiem - metodą stosowaną na gruncie nauk przyrodniczych. Stosunek Jaspersa do obu tych metod badawczych zmieniał się wraz z nasilaniem się jego wątpliwości co do możliwości naukowej wiedzy o człowieku. W pracach psychopatologicznych rozumienie i wyjaśnianie odnosiły się do dwóch aspektów choroby psychicznej i były uzupełniane o opis fenomenologiczny.
