Assessment of tobacco dependence curricula in Italian dental hygiene schools

2013

The aim of this study was to assess the level of tobacco dependence education offered by Italian dental hygiene programs. A fifty-question survey was mailed to the thirty-one active public and private dental hygiene programs in Italy during the 2008-09 academic year. The survey assessed faculty confidence in teaching tobacco treatment, which courses contained tobacco dependence content, the number of minutes spent on specific content areas, and the level of clinical competence that dental hygiene graduates should be able to demonstrate. Surveys were returned by sixteen programs for a response rate of 52 percent. Respondents indicated tobacco dependence education was included in clinic or cl…

Which is the best communication strategy, based on anti-tobacco ads, to impress teenagers? A multicenter cross-sectional study

2020

Background. Well-planned mass-media campaigns can increase health literacy and raise awareness about the consequences of tobacco use. This study aims to evaluate the emotions and opinions of adolescents about several anti-tobacco spots delivered by the mass media over the world. Study design. Cross-sectional study. Methods. The study was conducted in Italy in 2016–2017 among students aged 13–17 years. Students expressed their emotions and opinions about seven anti-tobacco spots from all over the world on different topics and styles. Results. 499 students attended. The video “Sponge” was found to be the most impressive (30.2%) and what they would have chosen if they had been responsible for …

Roflumilast N-oxide reverses corticosteroid resistance in neutrophils from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

2013

Background Glucocorticoid functions are markedly impaired in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor roflumilast N-oxide (RNO) is the active metabolite of roflumilast approved as a treatment to reduce the risk of exacerbations in patients with severe COPD. Objective We sought to characterize the differential effects of RNO versus corticosteroids and their potential additive/synergistic effect in neutrophils from patients with COPD, thus providing scientific rationale for the combination of roflumilast with corticosteroids in the clinic. Methods Peripheral blood neutrophils were isolated from patients with COPD (n = 32), smokers (n = 7), …

Dynamic changes in the subcellular distribution of the tobacco ROS-producing enzyme RBOHD in response to the oomycete elicitor cryptogein.

2014

Highlight text The oomycete elicitor cryptogein triggers the relocation of RBOHD from intracellular compartments to the plasma membrane in tobacco cells. This suggests that intracellular trafficking is a potential determinant of RBOHD activity.

Pseudomonas corrugata crpCDE is part of the cyclic lipopeptide corpeptin biosynthetic gene cluster and is involved in bacterial virulence in tomato a…

2014

Summary: Pseudomonas corrugataCFBP 5454 produces two kinds of cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs), cormycin A and corpeptins, both of which possess surfactant, antimicrobial and phytotoxic activities. In this study, we identified genes coding for a putative non-ribosomal peptide synthetase and an ABC-type transport system involved in corpeptin production. These genes belong to the same transcriptional unit, designated crpCDE. The genetic organization of this locus is highly similar to other PseudomonasCLP biosynthetic clusters. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) analysis revealed that transporter and synthetase genomic knock-out mutants were u…

γ-Tubulin in Barley and Tobacco: Sequence Relationship and RNA Expression Patterns in Developing Leaves during Mitosis and Post-Mitotic Growth

2002

gamma-Tubulin is typically associated with microtubule organising centres, such as the centrosome, and appears to mediate microtubule nucleation. Centrosomes are usually not found in higher plants, but active genes homologous to gamma-tubulin have been identified in the plant kingdom, including the angiosperms Arabidopsis, maize and rice. We have isolated and characterised gamma-tubulin cDNA sequences of two further angiosperm species, barley and tobacco. Sequence comparison revealed a phylogenetic tree with distinct clusters corresponding to the systematic position of the species. Furthermore, domains, thought to be exposed in the folded protein and to be candidates for interaction with as…

The militarization of public order at the end of the reign of Charles III: The Instruction of 1784

2004

The Government of Carlos III, in the last years of his reign, assigned to the Army police tasks of pursuit of the delinquency and…

Llano Zapata, a creole of Spain apologist: exchange-critical apologetic about the Spanish colonization in the mid-eighteenth century

2012

EnglishThe Spanish colonization in America has been, from the first moment, a theme of historiographic controversy. And it was on like that during the 18th Century. Thats why, in the middle of the Century, before the vehement apologies in the reign of Carlos III, we can find the defense of th…

2007

The charters abolition decree of the Kingdoms of Valencia and Aragon kept the traditional regulation on the jurisdiction and ecclesiastic immunity, and this exception was ratified in the Royal Order the 7th of September in 1707. As the members of this class thought that it was implying a reinforcement of their privileges, they presented an intense resistance to the imposition of the tobacco monopoly, which the monarchy considered as a «well-known royalty» inherent in its sovereignty. Initially, the opposition was assumed by the ecclesiastic hierarchy and it generated jurisdictional conflicts so serious that Philip V proceeded to the emission of dispositions in favour of his royal prerogativ…
