Subphthalocyanines as narrow band red-light emitting materials

2007

A series of new light emitting subphthalocyanines, lower homologues of phthalocyanines, were synthesized having color points covering the red-orange region of the visible spectrum. Additionally, they were found to be of potential use as narrow band emitters for red-light emitting diodes.

Effect of the Al/Si atomic ratio on surface and structural properties of sol-gel prepared aluminosilicates

2003

Abstract A series of aluminosilicates with an Al/Si ratio ranging from 0 to ∞ (0 for pure silica and ∞ for pure alumina) was prepared by sol–gel process and characterized by surface and structure techniques. Aluminum tri sec butoxide and tetramethylorthosilicate were used as precursors for the sol–gel synthesis. The acidic properties of the oxides were studied by determination of the zero point charges, through mass titration method, and, for selected samples, by FT-IR spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine used as a probe for both Bronsted and Lewis acidity. A dependence of the acidity on the Al/Si atomic ratio was found. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns, all the oxides have an amorp…

Demonstration of an efficient pumping scheme for a 7.36-nm Ni-like samarium soft x-ray laser

2010

The demonstration of a 7.36 nm Ni-like Sm soft x-ray laser pumped by 36 J of a Nd:glass chirped pulse amplification laser is presented. Double-pulse single-beam non-normal incidence pumping was applied for the efficient soft x-ray laser generation. Here the applied technique included a new single optic focusing geometry for large beam diameters, a single-pass grating compressor traveling-wave tuning capability and an optimized high energy laser double-pulse. This scheme has the potential for even shorter wavelength soft x-ray laser pumping.

Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance of Chlorophyll Triplet States in Water-Soluble Chlorophyll Proteins from Lepidium virginicum: Evidence for Exci…

2018

Optically detected magnetic resonance of triplet states populated by photoexcitation in water-soluble chlorophyll proteins (WSCPs) from Lepidium virginicum has been performed using both absorption and fluorescence detection. Well resolved triplet-singlet (T-S) spectra have been obtained and interpreted in terms of electronic interactions among the four chlorophylls (Chls), forming two dimers in the WSCP tetramer. Localization of the triplet state on a single Chl leads to a redistribution of the oscillator strength in the remaining three Chls of the complex. By comparing the spectra with those obtained on a substoichiometric WSCP complex containing only 2 Chls per protein tetramer, we proved…

The chemistry of Cr(VI) adsorption on to poly(p-phenylenediamine) adsorbent

2019

Abstract Water pollution due to industrial processes has necessitated and spurred robust research into the development of adsorbent materials for remediation. Polyphenylenediamines (PPD) have attracted significant attention because of their dual cationic and redox properties. They are able to reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III) in solution. Interrogation of the chemical processes involved in the Cr(VI) adsorption on para-PPD was primarily by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. It was confirmed that the underlying oxidation of the amino groups to imines during the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) was irreversible. This process occurred at both acidi…

Low toenail chromium concentration and increased risk of nonfatal myocardial infarction

2005

Chromium intake may increase insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, and the ratio of high density lipoprotein cholesterol to low density lipoprotein cholesterol. However, the epidemiologic evidence on the association between chromium and cardiovascular disease is very limited. To determine whether low toenail chromium concentrations were associated with risk of nonfatal myocardial infarction, the authors conducted an incident, population-based, case-control study in eight European countries and Israel in 1991-1992. Cases (n = 684) were men with a first diagnosis of myocardial infarction recruited from the coronary units of participating hospitals. Controls (n = 724) were men selected rando…

Electronic properties and corrosion resistance of passive films on austenitic and duplex stainless steels

2018

Abstract Passive films were grown at constant potential in acidic (pH∼2) and alkaline (pH∼13) solutions on chromium, AISI 304L, AISI 316L and Duplex stainless steels. Passive films on chromium grow following a high field mechanism considering the presence of dissolution phenomena. According to the photoelectrochemical characterization, passive films on Cr have a bandgap of 3.4 eV when formed in acidic solution, and of 2.4 eV when formed in alkaline solution due to the formation of Cr(OH)3. These films result to be poorly stable against anodic dissolution due to a very anodic flat band potential. Conversely, impedance and photoelectrochemical measurements proved that passive films on stainle…

Long-period grating assisted fractional differentiation of highly chirped light pulses

2016

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to perform a fractional differentiation of arbitrary order on a given light pulse by propagation through a single long-period grating. A simple analytical expression is obtained also, relating the fractional order of differentiation with the parameters of the long-period grating. A secant hyperbolic like pulse of 23 ps time width with a chirp parameter of -30 was successfully fractionally differentiated to the 0.5th order. The proposal was corroborated experimentally and numerically. The device may find applications in real time phase recovery. Fil: Poveda Wong, L.. Universidad de Valencia; España Fil: Carrascosa, A..
