Trialling the 4C framework in an Indian grade 3 mathematics classroom

This thesis describes an action research carried out in a Grade 3 maths classroom in a low income, English medium school in Mumbai, India. The maths teacher in the study used the 4C model proposed by Do Coyle (2010) as a framework of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for teaching maths in English to students whose exposure to English outside the classroom was negligible. This thesis draws on content and language integrated learning (CLIL) as a methodological innovation in language education. In order to become competent CLIL teachers in 21st century, however, teachers should not merely have expertise knowledge in their own teaching fields but take pedagogical tact into consideration. Quality management in the public sector accounting department - (un)avoidable quality costs and unlikely financial impacts

This paper investigates the nature of quality costs and the likelihood of their having financial impacts in the public sector. An illustrative quality development case project in an accounting department of a Finnish city administration is presented. The empirical data includes answers to a qualitative project question sheet, workshop material and participative observation. Quality problems are classified according to their quality cost category and the extent to which they are avoidable. Facilitating Team Reflexivity About Communication

This article explores how team facilitation can promote team reflexivity about communication. We present a case study that was conducted within a participatory action research framework with a Top Management Team for an international manufacturing company. We identify and analyze five key interventions that promoted team reflexivity. These interventions included activities such as (a) framing the facilitation, (b) inquiring into the key issues, (c) role modeling feedback, (d) positive storytelling, and (e) reflecting on concrete communication actions. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on ollut tuottaa tietoa alueellisen erityislastentarhanopettajan (alue-elto) työn muotoutumisesta tavallisen päivähoidon arkiympäristössä sekä päiväkotien kasvatushenkilöstön arvioista koskien alue-elton työtä ja yhteistyötä hänen kanssaan. Tutkimus on tehty toimintatutkimuksena. Tutkimuksessa kuvataan alue-elton ajankäyttöä ja työtehtäviä sisällöllisesti. Tutkimuksen aineistona on alue-eltojen työajanseuranta runsaan vuoden ajalta. Työajanseurannassa alue-eltot kuvailivat työtehtäviään 15 minuutin tarkkuudella yhden viikon ajan kuukaudessa lokakuusta 2000 joulukuuhun 2001.
