2005
Abstract Three diorganotin(IV) complexes of the type, [R 2 Sn(L a H)(L b H)] (R = n Bu or Me and, L a H and L b H are two different 5-[( E )-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoate residues; a: aryl = 4′-Cl-(held constant) and b: aryl = 4′-Me or 4′-Br) have been prepared either by reacting n Bu 2 SnO, L a HH′ and L b HH′ (1:1:1) in anhydrous toluene or by reacting Me 2 SnCl 2 , L a HNa and L b HNa (1:1:1) in anhydrous methanol. The products were characterized by microanalysis, IR, NMR ( 1 H, 13 C, 119 Sn) and 119m Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy. A full characterization of the structures of the complexes [ n Bu 2 Sn(L a H)(L b H)] ( 1 and 2 ) and [Me 2 Sn(L a H)(L b H)] ( 3 ) in the solid state w…

Abstract The synthesis of GePh4 and Ge2Ph6 by Grignard reaction in THF or ether/toluene leads to the by-products Ge3Ph8 (up to 11%) and Ge4Ph10 (up to 18%) which is dependant on using an excess of Mg. A quantitative analysis of the resulting products by HPLC and a semipreparative separation by column, flash, and HPL chromatography is described. The crystal structures of Ge3Ph8 (R = 0.075) and Ge4Ph10 · 2C6H6 (R = 0.054) have been determined. Ge4Ph10 has Ci symmetry and both chain conformations are well staggered (49–70° for Ge3Ph8, 53–66° for Ge4Ph10). The GeGe distances and GeGeGe angles are 244 pm and 121° (Ge3Ph8), and 246 pm and 118° (Ge4Ph10).
Assessing air quality inside vehicles and at filling stations by monitoring benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes with the use of semipermeable …
2007
BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes) were used as target molecules to evaluate the quality of air inside motor vehicles and near filling stations, using semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) as low-cost passive sampling devices. A direct, fast, simple methodology based on the use of headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detection (HS-GC-MS) was developed for BTEX determinations, without any sample pre-treatment. SPMDs (25.4 cm2 surface, filled with 100 microL triolein) were employed as static samplers. After the selected deployment time, the SPMDs were heated inside a HS vial at 150 degrees C for 20 min and BTEX compounds were determined by GC-MS in selected ion moni…
Coordination self-assembly through weak interactions in meso-dialkoxyphosphoryl-substituted zinc porphyrinates.
2019
International audience; The self-assembly of seven zinc 10-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)-5,15-diarylporphyrinates Zn5-Zn11 containing different substituents at the phosphonate and aryl groups was investigated. Single crystals of Zn5-Zn9 complexes were grown under the same conditions and analyzed by X-ray structural analysis. A supramolecular self-assembly is observed in all crystals through weak coordinative bonding of the phosphoryl group of one porphyrin molecule to the zinc(II) ion of a second porphyrin molecule. The geometry of the porphyrin macrocycle is similar in all of the studied crystals and the central zinc atom in each case adopts a distorted tetragonal pyramidal environment. However, th…
Dependence of solvent quality on the composition of copolymers: experiment and theory for solutions of P(MMA-ran-t-BMA) in toluene and in chloroform.
2014
The interaction of toluene with P(MMA-ran-t-BMA) and with the corresponding homopolymers was determined via vapor pressure measurements at 30, 50 and 70 °C. A unified thermodynamic approach served for the modeling of the results. It is capable of describing the behavior of the different solutions by means of two adjustable parameters, one representing the effective number of solvent segments and the other accounting for the interactions between the components. The solvent quality of toluene passes a maximum, a minimum and another maximum upon an increase of the t-BMA content of the copolymer at all temperatures. A similar behavior is discernable from vapor pressure data of chloroform publis…
Supramolecular PEG-co-oligo(p-benzamide)s prepared on a peptide synthesizer.
2007
An automated synthesis protocol has been developed for the preparation of oligo(p-benzamide)s on solid support using a commercial peptide synthesizer employing a variation of standard Fmoc chemistry. Bis(trichloromethyl carbonate) in NMP was used to activate the aromatic carboxylic acids for acylation of secondary aromatic amines on solid support. N-Protected hepta(p-benzamide) was automatically prepared on solid support and manually converted to a solid supported block co-oligomer by attaching a poly(ethylene glycol) chain. Cleavage from the support could be achieved with minimal loss of the p-methoxybenzyl N-protective group. While the N-protected block co-oligomer was molecularly dissolv…
Influence of ground tire rubber on the transient loading response of a peat biofilter
2010
Abstract The effect of using ground tire rubber (GTR) as an adsorptive material in the removal of a 2:1:1 weight mixture of n-butyl acetate, toluene and m-xylene by using a peat biofilter under different intermittent conditions was investigated. The performance of two identical size biofilters, one packed with fibrous peat alone and the other with a 3:1 (vol) fibrous peat and GTR mixture, was examined for a period of four months. Partition coefficients of both materials were measured. Values of 53, 118 and 402 L kg −1 were determined for n-butyl acetate, toluene and m-xylene in peat, respectively; and values of 40, 609 and 3035 L kg −1 were measured for the same compounds in GTR. Intermitte…
Analysis of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid geometrical isomers formed during fish oil deodorization.
2006
International audience; Addition of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) from marine oil into food products implies preliminary refining procedures of the oil which thermal process affects the integrity of LC-PUFAs. Deodorization, the major step involving high temperatures, is a common process used for the refining of edible fats and oils. The present study evaluates the effect of deodorization temperature on the formation of LC-PUFA geometrical isomers. Chemically isomerized eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were used as reference samples. Fish oil samples have been deodorized at 180, 220 and 250 °C for 3 h and pure EPA and DHA fatty acid methyl esters…
Samplers for VOCs in air based on cyclodextrin–silica hybrid microporous solid phases
2012
Samplers for VOCs in air based on cyclodextrin-silica hybrid microporous solid phases are proposed. The solid phase preparation is very easy and inexpensive. Proposed samplers compared with other solid phases present the advantages of a wider range of operative conditions for VOCs desorption. Samplers are tested based on results for the determination of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene (BTEX) in air. Operational parameters are optimized and quantitative recovery is obtained using a solid phase from 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin and acetonitrile as the extraction solvent. The recoveries obtained are 89 ± 4%, 90 ± 6%, 91 ± 2%, 87.0 ± 0.9%, 88 ± 4%, and 88 ± …
Simultaneous isolation of xanthomegnin, viomellein, rubrosulphin, viopurpurin, and brevianamide A by preparative HPLC.
1984
A method for the isolation of xanthomegnin, viomellein, rubrosulphin, viopurpurin, and brevianamide A from Penicillium viridicatum (DSM 2447) is described. After extraction, HPLC was performed with a preparative silicagel column, eluted with toluene / ethyl acetate / formic acid (27/9/1, v/v/v) and dichloromethane / acetic acid (9/1, v/v). The toxins were detected with a UV-monitor. It was possible to isolate them in an absolutely pure state. The described method is operationally simple and very efficient.
