Nel 2003, a Locri (RC), è stata ritrovata la statua-ritratto in marmo del c.d. “togato di Petrara” (I sec. d.C.), rappresentata in Fig. 1, come si presenta dopo il restauro. Si tratta, probabilmente di una statua onoraria di un magistrato del municipium locrese, alta circa m 2,16 ma spezzata in tre parti: piedi con basetta, testa e figura. Dal marzo al luglio 2008 sono state eseguite le operazioni di restauro del manufatto per ricomporre la statua e porla nuovamente in posizione eretta. Una notevole lesione, infatti, era visibile sul fianco sinistro e sul retro. Los conodontos son un grupo de vertebrados extintos que poseen unas piezas mineralizadas llamadas elementos conodontales. Aunque son importantes herramientas para datar y correlacionar, su importancia paleobiológica ha sido históricamente descuidada debido a su pequeño tamaño y las técnicas de estudio disponibles. El presente trabajo pretende hacer una revisión actualizada del conocimiento paleobiológico del grupo a la luz del uso de las nuevas técnicas tomográficas.

How and why does willow biochar increase a clay soil water retention capacity?

Addition of biochar into a soil changes its water retention properties by modifying soil textural and structural properties. In addition, internal micrometer-scale porosity that is able to directly store readily plant available water affects soil water retention properties. This study shows how precise knowledge of the internal micrometer-scale pore size distribution of biochar can deepen the understanding of the biochar-water interactions in soils. The micrometer-scale porosity of willow biochar was quantitatively and qualitatively characterized using X-ray tomography, 3D image analysis and Helium ion microscopy. Optimal recovery of a radiating source with multiple frequencies along one line

We study an inverse problem where an unknown radiating source is observed with collimated detectors along a single line and the medium has a known attenuation. The research is motivated by applications in SPECT and beam hardening. If measurements are carried out with frequencies ranging in an open set, we show that the source density is uniquely determined by these measurements up to averaging over levelsets of the integrated attenuation. This leads to a generalized Laplace transform. We also discuss some numerical approaches and demonstrate the results with several examples.
