Endotoxin inhibits gastric emptying in rats via a capsaicin-sensitive afferent pathway.
2001
The effects of endotoxin on gastric emptying of a solid nutrient meal and the neural mechanisms involved in such a response were investigated in conscious rats. The intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of E. coli endotoxin (40 mug/kg) significantly reduced the 4-h rate of gastric emptying of a standard solid nutrient meal. Ablation of primary afferent neurons by systemic administration of high doses of capsaicin (20+30+50 mg/kg s.c.) to adult rats did not modify the rate of gastric emptying in control animals but prevented the delay in gastric transit induced by endotoxin. Local application of capsaicin to the vagus nerve rather than application of capsaicin to the celiac ganglion signific…
Electrophysiological and microiontophoretic analysis of the habenulo-hippocampal circuit.
1991
In the cat, the effects of lateral habenula stimulation, at different ranges of frequency, on hippocampal units were studied. Habenular stimulation at low frequency excited, while at high frequency inhibited the greater part of hippocampal units. Moreover, in order to clarify the possible pathway involved in the habenulo-hippocampal circuit, the effects of iontophoretic acetylcholine and serotonin on hippocampal units were compared with those of habenular stimulation. Iontophoretic acetylcholine induced both excitatory and inhibitory responses while serotonin induced only inhibitory responses. Iontophoretic atropine blocked the effects of acetylcholine ejection but did not antagonize stimul…
A work of “total” art. Phenomenology of the Italian memorial in Auschwitz
2016
In 1978 the Italian Association ANED (national association of people formerly deported to nazi camps) starts the design and implementation of a Memorial, to tell the story of the Italian deportation, shaping it with respect to the inner space of one of the existing blocks on the site of the extermination camp in Auschwitz (Block 21). From the first project idea, the art potentiality was assumed as the most suitable instrument for the construction of memory. The Memorial was configured, in fact, as a true work of total art, coincidence of intention and perfect synthesis of the various arts in compliance with the same program: a choral work, a work of artists and intellectuals who, each accor…
Fenomenologia di un’opera d’arte “totale”
2014
Phenomenology of a work of "total" art The Italian memorial at Auschwitz From the first project idea, the initiative ANED for the construction of a Memorial was aimed to tell the tragic story of the Italian deportation, and had founded in the potential of art the most suitable tool for the construction of memory. The Memorial was configured as a true work of total art, coincidence of intention and perfect synthesis of the various arts in compliance with the same program: a choral work, work of artists and intellectuals who, each in its own jurisdiction, had composed it like an "organic" system in the deep sharing of the ultimate meaning of the thinking and doing. Starting from these premise…
The clinical and molecular spectrum of QRICH1 associated neurodevelopmental disorder
2022
De novo variants in QRICH1 (Glutamine-rich protein 1) has recently been reported in 11 individuals with intellectual disability. The function of QRICH1 is largely unknown but it is likely to play a key role in the unfolded response of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress through transcriptional control of proteostasis. In this study, we present 27 additional individuals and delineate the clinical and molecular spectrum of the individuals (n=38) with QRICH1 variants. The main clinical features were mild to moderate developmental delay/intellectual disability (71%), non-specific facial dysmorphism (92%) and hypotonia (39%). Additional findings included poor weight gain (29%), short stature (29%)…
Development of fluorescent platforms for the design of multifunctional compounds for in vitro and in vivo applications in molecular imaging
2018
The objective of this thesis was the development and evaluation of new molecular platformsfor optical fluorescence imaging applications. This work sought to develop new tools that caneasily be modified and adapted to the specific needs of the intended use. This is required asthe fluorophore will influence the final properties and should thus be incorporated beforestructural optimization of the selected agent rather than at the very end. Two main axes wereexplored; the use of BODIPYs for the development of trackable therapeutic agents that areprimarily intended for in vitro applications and the use of azaBODIPYs for the design of an invivo compatible fluorescent platform. In the first part tw…
Differential branching fractions and isospin asymmetries of B -> K ((*)) μ(+) μ(-) decays
2014
The isospin asymmetries of $B \to K\mu^+\mu^-$ and $B \to K^{*}\mu^+\mu^-$ decays and the partial branching fractions of the $B^0 \to K^0\mu^+\mu^-$, $B^+ \to K^+\mu^+\mu^-$ and $B^+ \to K^{*+}\mu^+\mu^-$ decays are measured as functions of the dimuon mass squared, $q^2$. The data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3$~$fb$^{-1}$ from proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7$\,$TeV and 8$\,$TeV in 2011 and 2012, respectively. The isospin asymmetries are both consistent with the Standard Model expectations. The three measured branching fractions, while individually consistent, all favour lower values than their respective Standard M…
Angular analysis of charged and neutral B → Kμ + μ − decays
2014
The angular distributions of the rare decays B → K+µ+µ- and B0 → K0 <inf>a</inf>Sμ+μ- are studied with data corresponding to 3 fb-1 of integrated luminosity, collected in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8TeV centre-of-mass energies with the LHCb detector. The angular distribution is described by two parameters, FH and the forward-backward asymmetry of the dimuon system AFB, which are determined in bins of the dimuon mass squared. The parameter F<inf>H</inf> is a measure of the contribution from (pseudo)scalar and tensor amplitudes to the decay width. The measurements of A<inf>FB</inf> and F<inf>H</inf> reported here are the most precise to d…
