Il progetto dei nuovi luoghi della cultura e dell’incontro nel territorio della modernità ha costituito per diversi anni un campo per la ricerca e la didattica. Computation of the area in the discrete plane: Green’s theorem revisited

International audience; The detection of the contour of a binary object is a common problem; however, the area of a region, and its moments, can be a significant parameter. In several metrology applications, the area of planar objects must be measured. The area is obtained by counting the pixels inside the contour or using a discrete version of Green's formula. Unfortunately, we obtain the area enclosed by the polygonal line passing through the centers of the pixels along the contour. We present a modified version of Green's theorem in the discrete plane, which allows for the computation of the exact area of a two-dimensional region in the class of polyominoes. BIO-Bragg gratings: structured molecular networks for on-fiber bioanalysis

The research on photonic biosensors is a scientific hot topic at the moment, with a significant potential impact on industry and medicine. Label-free, miniaturized, inexpensive and low-loss biosensors are developed based on optical fiber technology. Our approach is based on a Bio-Bragg-Grating (BBG) patterned on the surface of a microfiber. We present the design, fabrication and proof of concept of our device, as well as its multiplexing and tunability perspectives [1] .
Melatonin activates the peroxidase-oxidase reaction and promotes oscillations.

We have studied the peroxidase-oxidase reaction with NADH and O2 as substrates and melatonin as a cofactor in a semibatch reactor. We show for the first time that melatonin is an activator of the reaction catalyzed by enzymes from both plant and animal sources. Furthermore, melatonin promotes oscillatory dynamics in the pH range from 5 to 6. The frequency of the oscillations depends on the pH such that an increase in pH was accompanied by a decrease in frequency. Conversely, an increase in the flow rate of NADH or an increase in the average concentration of NADH resulted in an increase in oscillation frequency. INTEGRATED CALCAREOUS PLANKTON BIOSTRATIGRAPHY OF SELECTED MIOCENE SUCCESSIONS IN THE NORTHERN CALABRIA (ITALY).

An integrated calcareous plankton biostratigraphic approach on six sections cropping out in Northern Calabria allowed to define a revised chronostratigraphic framework for Tortonian-Messinian deposits. Four sections have been investigated in the Amantea Basin (Timpone Napoli, Vallone Salina, Case Vespano, and Cozzo Salice) and two in the Rossano Basin (Vallone Casino and Cozzo Sant'Isidoro). Biostratigraphic analyses have been based on quantitative counting of planktonic foraminifers and semiquantitative counting of nannofossils. Biphenyl derivatives containing trimethylsilyl benzyl ether or oxime groups as probes for NO2 detection

[EN] Four probes based in the use of a biphenyl moiety and functionalized with trimethylsilyl benzyl ether (P1 and P3) and oxime (P2 and P4) groups have been prepared and tested as optical probes for the detection of NO2. Reaction of NO2 with acetonitrile solutions of P2-P4 resulted in the formation of aldehydes 7 and 8 with a concomitant redshift of the absorption bands. Probe P2 displayed a bathochromic shift of 45 nm upon reaction with NO2 and was able to detect this poisonous gas at concentrations as low as 0.02 ppm. Abstract The voltammetric behaviour at carbon fibre microelectrodes under the application of static magnetic fields of two series of macrolactams containing in their structure 4,4′-bis(dimethylamino)biphenyl or 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl groups in MeCN solution is described. The response of 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl receptors is dominated by two successive one-electron reduction processes at −0.9 and −1.6 V versus AgCl/Ag. 4,4′-bis(dimethylamino)biphenyl-containing receptors display two one-electron oxidations above +0.8 and +1.0 V.
