Massa Fundorum. E' possibile rintracciarla sul terreno?
2018
The work, starting from the studies on the late ancient massa fundorum, examines the possibility of tracing the organization of this kind of estate on the ground. Two cases of study are dealt with, the first in the territory of Himera and the second in the territory of Palma di Montechiaro (AG), where systematic archaeological surveys have been conducted.

Participation of Dr. Petropoulos has been funded by the ENViSIoN-EO Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant (grant No 752094), part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Part of the present collaborative work was also materialised in the framework of a short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) of the HARMONIOUS Cost Action which financially supported Dr Petropoulos’ visit between 4 to 15 February 2020 to the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo, Italy. 752094). Archaeology of Uplands on a Mediterranean Island. The Madonie Mountain Range In Sicily
2019
The book presents an archaeological research conducted within the Highlands of Sicily. Results of the archaeological survey in the Madonie mountain range, in northern Sicily, supported by a chronological and cultural grid, drawn by the excavation of Vallone Inferno, deal with complex and fascinating problems of uplands and mountainous landscape. Settlement patterns, between the Late Pleistocene and the Medieval era, are investigated through the support of spatial analyses. A diversified use of the mountain is currently attested by this research, according to the different prehistoric and historical times. This work is innovative for the Mediterranean area, where there are no similar example…
Experimental analysis of cross-sectional flow motion in a large amplitude meandering bend
2010
Flow in meandering bends is characterized by the formation of a large cross-sectional central-region circulation cell. The width-to-depth ratio is one of the most important parameters affecting the entity of the cross-circulation motion. In steep outside bends, beside the central-region cell, a counter-rotating circulation cell often forms in the upper part of the outer-bank. In spite of its practical importance, the evolving mechanisms of both the circulation cells and their role on boundary shear stress distribution in bends are not yet fully understood. The aim of the present paper is to gain some insight into how cross-sectional flow motion evolves along meandering bends.
2009
This paper describes the procedures used to generate 3D models of the Agora and the Byzantine Basilica of the Elaiussa archaeological site. The virtual reconstructions were carried out from the excavation data of the artefacts, made available by colleagues from the Department of Historical, Archaeological and Anthropological Science of Antiquities of the Rome “La Sapienza” University. 3D modelling software was particularly suitable to the reconstruction of these artefacts of which only few traces remain. In order to obtain a more accurate representation, 3D models of architectural elements of special value were also produced, as the capitals of the Agora re-employed in the Basilica and the …
Baucina-Monte Falcone 2014, indagini nella necropoli.
2016
The aim of this report is to present the results of archaeological samples, executed in order to contrast illegal researches on a necropolis at Baucina, in the northwestern part of Sicily, where Punic, Greek and indigenous traditions coexisted, in a relationship which is the focus of our ongoing investigation. We collected an archeological dataset, whose interpretation is detecting an articulated situation where the interaction between three different ethnic groups gave as result the variety of rituals. The future excavations of the site could increase the perception of this interaction, for a period in which Greeks and Punics designed their spheres of influence of the territories within th…

APPLICABIILITA’ DELL’APPROCCIO MULTICOSTELLATION CON L’AUSILIO DI SOFTWARE COMMERCIALI NELLA RETE UNIPA
2012
The role of landscape, topography, and geodiversity in explaining vascular plant species richness in a fragmented landscape
2016
We explained vascular plant species richness patterns in a 286 km(2) fragmented landscape with a notable human influence. The objective of this study was two-fold: to test the relative importance of landscape, topography and geodiversity measures, and to compare three different landscape-type variables in species richness modeling. Moreover, we tested if results differ when only native species are considered. We used generalized linear modeling based variation partitioning and generalized additive models with different explanatory variable sets. Landscape and topography explained the majority of the variation but the relative importance of topography and geodiversity was higher in explainin…
