Nodrošinot failu apmaiņas tiešsaistes pakalpojumus, būtisku resursu patēriņu rada tīkla slodze uz pakalpojuma sniedzēja infrastruktūru. Šobrīd lielākā daļa šādu pakalpojumu izmanto centralizētu klienta-servera arhitektūru. The basins of the Júcar and Segura rivers, on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, present a special water problem and are of particular interest regarding climate change. These basins are very vulnerable to a possible scenario of decreasing water resources. Recent studies on historic rainfall since 1955 have indicated an ongoing loss of precipitation in their headwaters, especially in the case of the Júcar river. Empirical study of extreme rainfall intensity in a semi-arid environment at different time scales

Abstract Mediterranean environments are typical of semi-arid regions, dominated by episodes of torrential rain in which the critical variable is not the total rainfall, but the intensity. This paper studies the maximum rainfall intensities at different observation time scales, from 5 min to 24 h, over eastern Spain from 1994 to 2007. The statistical rainfall characteristics for each time scale are analysed and the effects of specific geographical factors – altitude, aspect and distance to the sea – for each observation interval are tested. The results show that extreme intensities are heavily dependent on the time scale. There are two important turning points in this trend, at 1 h and 6 h. …

We compared the consistency, accuracy and reproducibility of next-generation short read sequencing between ten laboratories involved in food safety (research institutes, state laboratories, universities and companies) from Germany and Austria. Participants were asked to sequence six DNA samples of three bacterial species (Campylobacter jejuni, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella enterica) in duplicate, according to their routine in-house sequencing protocol. Nel lavoro vengono riportati i risultati di una campagna di misure condotte in 2 corsi d’acqua calabresi interessati da interventi di sistemazione con briglie. L’obiettivo dell’indagine è servito a verificare la validità dell’approccio, basato sul concetto di moto incipiente, che consente di ottenere il valore della pendenza longitudinale stabile mediante il ricorso alla simulazione fisica del processo di armouring statico. A Network Formation Game Approach to Study BitTorrent Tit-for-Tat

The Tit-for-Tat strategy implemented in BitTorrent (BT) clients is generally considered robust to selfish behaviours. The authors of [1] support this belief studying how Tit-for-Tat can affect selfish peers who are able to set their upload bandwidth. They show that there is a "good" Nash Equilibrium at which each peer uploads at the maximum rate. In this paper we consider a different game where BT clients can change the number of connections to open in order to improve their performance.
