Ages and stratigraphical architecture of late Miocene deposits in the Lorca Basin (Betics, SE Spain): New insights for the salinity crisis in margina…

2020

International audience; Unlike most Neogene basins of the Betic Cordillera where the Salinity Crisis is dated to the Messinian, a contradictory Tortonian dating was proposed for evaporites of the Lorca Basin. As a consequence, complex structural models have been proposed in the literature to explain this discrepancy in the timing of evaporites. In order to integrate the Lorca Basin into the geological context of the western Mediterranean domain during the Late Miocene, new sedimentological and stratigraphical studies coupled with new dating were performed, which allow us to propose a Messinian age for both diatomite-bearing deposits and evaporites of the Lorca Basin. These new ages challeng…

Overlapping patterns of morphometric and genetic differentiation in the Mediterranean goby Pomatoschistus tortonesei Miller, 1968 (Perciformes, Gobii…

2012

Abstract. The genetic and morphological variations of Pomatoschistus tortonesei Miller, 1968 were studied in samples collected from three Tunisian lagoons. The morphological analysis included 18 morphometric measurements and was based on linear discriminant analysis (LDA), whereas the genetic analysis was based on the 16S-rRNA and COI mitochondrial genes. Both analyses differentiated the populations and demonstrated consistently a well-supported differentiation between the western Mediterranean samples (Bizerta and Tunis South lagoons) and the eastern Mediterranean sample (El Bibane lagoon). The observed differentiation could be explained in terms of the geographic isolation of the various …

Effect of expertise on boundary extension in approach sequences

2017

International audience; In a constantly changing environment, one of the conditions for adaptation is based on the visual system's ability to realize predictions. In this context, a question that arises is the evolution of the processes allowing anticipation with regard to the acquisition of knowledge relative to specific situations. We sought to study this question by focusing on boundary extension, the tendency to overestimate the scope of a previously perceived scene. We presented to novice, beginner, and expert car drivers road scenes in the form of approach sequences constituting very briefly displayed photographs (i.e., 250 milliseconds each), in order to determine the effect of exper…

Recursive Selective Harmonic Elimination for Multilevel Inverters: Mathematical Formulation and Experimental Validation

2023

A recursive method that eliminates +1 harmonics and their respective multiples from the output voltage of a cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters with = 2 dc sources ( = 1, 2, 3,...) is proposed. It solves 2×2 linear systems with not singular matrices and always gives an exact solution with very low computational effort. Simulated results in three-phase five, nine, seventeen and thirty three level CHB inverters, and experimental results in five-level inverter demonstrate the validity of the method.

Local structure and lattice dynamics of cubic Y2O3: an x-ray absorption spectroscopy study

2015

Classical molecular dynamics was used to interpret the temperature dependent (300-1273 K) Y K-edge x-ray absorption spectra of cubic c-Y2O3 and to validate two force-field models. It was shown that both models reproduce well thermal disorder effect, however are less accurate in description of static octahedra distortion around yttrium atoms. The temperature dependencies of mean-square displacements and mean-square relative displacements were obtained from molecular dynamics simulations for the first two shells of yttrium. The importance of anharmonic effects was demonstrated by comparison of molecular dynamics and lattice dynamics results.

Influence of morphology in the magnetic properties of layered double hydroxides

2018

We report the controlled synthesis of magnetic CoAl and NiFe layered double hydroxides (LDHs) endowed with well-defined morphology (hexagonal and flower-like shapes) by means of modified homogeneous precipitation. These layered magnets display high crystallinity and micrometric size, thus offering a perfect scenario for the elucidation of the role exerted by distortion of the layers in their magnetic behaviour. The magnetic properties have been investigated by means of DC and AC magnetic susceptibility measurements and isothermal magnetization, demonstrating that the distortion of the nanosheets induces a magnetically more disordered behaviour, with marked spin-glass nature, independently o…

Impact of water stress on plant water relations, growth and mycorhization of Acacia tortilis ssp. raddiana: Interactions of the stress severity and d…

2010

Mycorrhizae are commonly reported to improve drought resistance of the host plant. Investigating factors controlling the plant-resistance strategy to water stress can however lead to a suitable management of mycorrhizal plants under drought. Here, we focused on the impact of interactions of the AM fungal species and water stress severity and duration on mycorrhizal Acacia tortilis ssp. raddiana in terms of plant growth, mycorhization and water relations. We used three Glomus species, which were G. mosseae, G. deserticola and G. intraradices. We applied three watering regimes that were maximum water holding non-stress regime, mild-severe water stress and severe water stress. Measurements wer…
