Recent scholarship in critical toponymy studies has refashioned the understanding of street names from innocent labels to nominal loci of historical memory and vectors of collective identity that are embroiled with power relations. Urban nomenclatures consist of more than mere linguistic signposts deployed onto space to facilitate navigation. Street names are also powerful signposts that indicate the political regime and its socio-cultural values. CitySearcher: A City Search Engine For Interests

We introduce CitySearcher, a vertical search engine that searches for cities when queried for an interest. Generally in search engines, utilization of semantics between words is favorable for performance improvement. Even though ambiguous query words have multiple semantic meanings, search engines can return diversified results to satisfy different users' information needs. But for CitySearcher, mismatched semantic relationships can lead to extremely unsatisfactory results. Recent trends of urban development and town planning in Spain

With the socio-economic change from rural to industrial, Spain has experienced an enormous urbanisation boom during the last 20 years. This has produced a concentration of high-rise apartment blocks not only in the big cities but also in medium-sized towns and even within the medieval town centres. More astonishing, compared with Central Europe, seems however, the spatial distribution of the social classes which, with a centre-periphery gradient, still corresponds to the model of the pre-industrial town. The paper investigates the impact of town planning, house building policy, and behavioural aspects on these structural patterns.

The use of GIS to study the spatial evolution of pre-industrial cities over the "longue durée" requires rigorously formalising heterogeneous data from different sources into robust entities. An initial model using the HBDS (Hypergraph Based Data Structure) method enabled us to distinguish social and spatial features. In this paper we develop a specific model for the temporal dimension. The definition of urban objects using social, spatial and temporal features enhances the study of urban dynamics of change over the "longue durée".

On the evidence of local court rolls, this paper studies the patters of violence in a valencian small town oriented to a great extent toward agrarian activities. It was especially a structural and daily violence, that usually it was not caused by habitual criminals but by common people and even by members of the ruling group. Abuse of force usually taked place from poweful to weak (from richs to poors, from masters to serviants, from husbands to wives, from christians to muslims), so that these forms of violence reaffirmed internal hierarchies that divided local community.

As in other medieval towns, local authorities of Castelló de la Plana controled legal prostitution. Town council supported public brothel in order to dissuade some passions that, otherwise, could degenerate into adultery and violence, and in the lastanalysis into disorders that threaten marriage as guarantee of material and social reproduction of community and its hierarchies. AbstractThe article asks whether the divided town Cieszyn-Český Těšín can be considered a joint “living space” in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. It evaluates the impact of the pandemic on various aspects of the daily lives of the inhabitants and institutions of both parts of this divided town. Three main dimensions of cross-border integration were studied: cross-border flows, cross-border structures/institutions, and the feeling of togetherness, which represents an ideational dimension of cross-border integration.
