Both the host microbiome and the microbiome of the built environment can have profound impacts on human health. While prior studies have suggested that the variability introduced by DNA extraction method is less than typical biologic variation, most studies have focused on 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing or on high biomass fecal samples. Multivariate approach to reveal relationships between sensory perception of cheeses and aroma profile obtained with different extraction methods

A new and original statistical approach was used to compare the effectiveness of 4 different methods to analyse aroma compounds of seven different commercial semi-hard cheeses with regard to their orthonasal sensory perception. Four extraction methods were evaluated: Purge and Trap, Artificial Mouth, Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Solvent-Assisted Flavour Evaporation (SAFE). Pileup and underlying event mitigation with iterative constituent subtraction

Abstract The hard-scatter processes in hadronic collisions are often largely contaminated with soft background coming from pileup in proton-proton collisions, or underlying event in heavy-ion collisions. This paper presents a new background subtraction method for jets and event observables (such as missing transverse energy) which is based on the previously published Constituent Subtraction algorithm. The new subtraction method, called Iterative Constituent Subtraction, applies event-wide implementation of Constituent Subtraction iteratively in order to fully equilibrate the background subtraction across the entire event. Abstract Fruit berries by-products are mainly elaborated with berry but most of them mixed with other fruits, grapes, plums or apples. These present favourable properties for the growth of a great range of mycotoxins mould producers. Consequently, alternariol (AOH), alternariol monomethyl ether (AME), tentoxin (TEN), aflatoxins (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2) and ochratoxin A (OTA) are the main mycotoxins that should be present in berries by-products. Representativeness of Extracts of Offset Paper Packaging and Analysis of the Main Odor-Active Compounds

Packagings often carry odors due to the support and printing inks. The aim of the investigation was to define a representative solvent-free extract of paper-based packaging materials printed by the offset process, for the identification of the odor-causing volatile compounds. Static headspace and solid-phase microextraction were the two applied extraction methods. Representativeness tests showed that the odor of the PDMS fiber extract gave satisfying odor similarities with the original packaging. Abstract Acetonitrile extraction followed by primary-secondary amine dispersive SPE cleanup QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe), was compared to pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) using water at 70°C for 10 min at 1500 psi for the determination of 16 veterinary drugs in bovine muscle tissues by LC/MS/MS. PLE was significantly more effective for the extraction of veterinary drugs (ranging from 69 to 103% with RSD ≤ 18%) than QuEChERS (ranging from 19 to 89% with RSD ≤ 19%). Introducing the Pietarinen expansion method into the single-channel pole extraction problem

We present a new approach to quantifying pole parameters of single-channel processes based on a Laurent expansion of partial-wave T matrices in the vicinity of the real axis. Instead of using the conventional power-series description of the nonsingular part of the Laurent expansion, we represent this part by a convergent series of Pietarinen functions.
