Volatile constituents of the aerial parts of white salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius L., Asteraceae).
2010
Tragopogon porrifolius L. grows as a vegetable in southern Italy and all parts of it are edible. In the present study the volatile components of the aerial part are described. Gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of 38 components in all. On the whole, the volatile fraction was constituted mainly by carbonylic compounds (24.6%), phenols (21.5%) and fatty acids and esters (19.7%). The most abundant compounds were 4-vinyl guaiacol (19.0%), hexadecanoic acid (17.9%), hexahydrofarnesylacetone (15.8%) and hentriacontane (10.7%).
Comparison of sand burial-dependent growth responses of two Tragopogon species from different habitats
2021
Wind-driven sand movement leading to sand burial is an essential environmental factor in coastal sand dunes; therefore, plants native to sand dunes need to possess specific adaptations. The present study aimed to compare responses to variable sand burial intensity of Tragopogon heterospermus, rare plant species native to coastal dunes, and Tragopogon pratensis taxonomically related grassland species. Plants in culture were established from seeds collected in natural habitats, cultivated in an automated greenhouse, and individuals of different age were buried by sand in the different depths. Both plants had basic sand burial tolerance, seen as an elongation of adult plants’ leaf bases under …
'Just a pinch of salt'. An experimental comparison of the effect of repeated exposure and flavor-flavor learning with salt or spice on vegetable acce…
2014
N°CNRS : UMR6265 Centre des Sciences du Goût et de l'Alimentation; Children's vegetable intake is below the recommended amounts. No studies to date have tested the relevance of using salt or spices to increase children's vegetable acceptance. Our objective was to compare the effect of repeated exposure (RE) and of flavor-flavor learning (FFL) on toddlers' acceptance of a nonfamiliar vegetable. Two unconditioned stimuli were used: salt and a salt-associated spice. Toddlers attending six nurseries were assigned to 3 groups in a between subject design. Groups were exposed 8 times to a basic salsify puree (0.2% salt w/w; RE group; n = 47), a salty salsify puree (0.5% salt w/w; FFL-Salt group; n…
Baltijas jūras reģiona endēmo augu sugu Tragopogon heterospermus un Anthyllis maritima populāciju ekoloģija Latvijā
2015
Viena no Baltijas jūras reģiona aktualitātēm ir endēmo augu sugu, to dzīvotņu saglabāšana. Piekrastes monitoringa dati (1994. - 2013. g.) izmantoti, lai raksturotu sugām tipiskās sabiedrības. Tie grupēti ar TWINSPAN metodi. Galvenie rezultāti rāda, ka, lai arī abas sugas ir tipiskas priekškāpu un pelēko kāpu augu sabiedrībās, A. maritima dzīvotnēm raksturīgas arī a…
A New Polyploid Species of the Genus Tragopogon (Asteraceae, Cichorieae) from Russia
2008
ABSTRACT Tragopogon soltisiorum Mavrodiev (Asteraceae, Cichorieae, Scorzonerinae) is described as a new species. The new species is a tetraploid (2n = 24), ruderal plant with long flowering and fruiting times and differs from the vast majority of Tragopogon L. species in its ability to reproduce vegetatively from adventitious shoots. The new species is known only from southern Russia and is found in two varieties—a typical variety and a new variety latifolius Mavrodiev.
