Effects of training background to acute psychological stress biomarkers
2016
2017
Modulations of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion in skill- and endurance-trained athletes
2022
Abstract Purpose Long-term sports training, such as skill and endurance training, leads to specific neuroplasticity. However, it remains unclear if muscle stretch-induced proprioceptive feedback influences corticospinal facilitation/inhibition differently between skill- and endurance-trained athletes. This study investigated modulation of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion between well-trained skill and endurance athletes. Methods Ten skill- and ten endurance-trained athletes participated in the study. Corticospinal excitability was tested by single- and paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulations (TMS) at three different latencies following passive rapid ankl…
Does Stretching Training Influence Muscular Strength? A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis and Meta-Regression
2022
Thomas, E, Ficarra, S, Nunes, JP, Paoli, A, Bellafiore, M, Palma, A, and Bianco, A. Does stretching training influence muscular strength? A systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression. J Strength Cond Res XX(X): 000-000, 2022-This aim of this study was to review articles that performed stretching training and evaluated the effects on muscular strength. Literature search was performed using 3 databases. Studies were included if they compared the effects on strength following stretching training vs. a nontraining control group or stretching training combined with resistance training (RT) vs. an RT-only group, after at least 4 weeks of intervention. The meta-analyses were performe…
Regional headquarters and foreign direct investment
2022
Headquarters (HQs) provide a wide range of services, playing a fundamental role in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). We use the structural gravity equation to investigate the effect of regional HQs on three dimensions of FDI (number of foreign projects, capital investment, and jobs) at the country-pair-sector level. Furthermore, we explore two underlying mechanisms that help explain this relationship: financial constraints and informational costs and uncertainty. We find a positive effect of regional HQs on FDI, as well as intercountry and intersector spillovers. Our results are robust, accounting for HQ intensity, domestic investment, and endogeneity tests.
Praktyki zawodowe w kształceniu nauczycieli
2018
Contemporary conceptions of educating teachers underline the vital role and significance of professional traineeship. Education of teachersis directed not only at eąuipping prospective teachers with general and specialist knowledge, but also at developing competences which are indispensable for everyday didactic-rearing work. Therefore professional traineeship is an important element of educating teachers.
Learning to be a university student: reflective practice and study strategies of future teachers
2022
Every change in human life brings along an adaptation process. University transition includes most turbulent developmental periods of life as these years stand for the last stage of adolescence and can be considered as a critical transitional period both socially and biologically. In addition to the general confusion of adolescence, this period includes many problems such as leaving home and family, choosing friends and groups, being a candidate for a profession and finding a job. While making the transition to the academic life, students have to find their own identity, adopt and reconcile the values of the local and childhood period socially, the national and universal values of the socie…
Enabling and constraining family: young women building their educational paths in Tanzania
2015
For an increasing number of African girls and women, upgrading the level of education has become a strategy for life improvement. This paper analyses the role that family plays in enabling women's education and contributes to understanding on the interconnectivity of education, work and family in women's lives in collective societies. The analysis focuses on how young Tanzanian women perceive the role of family and education in their ‘youth task’, of becoming adult. The analysis is based on interviews with seven young Tanzanian women enrolled in non-formal secondary education and nine professional women enrolled in higher education. The results show that the women were determined to pursue …
Changes in Body Composition, Energy Metabolites and Electrolytes During Winter Survival Training in Male Soldiers
2022
The aim of this study was to examine changes in body composition, energy metabolites and electrolytes during a 10-day winter survival training period. Two groups of male soldiers were examined: the REC group (n = 26; age 19.7 ± 1.2 years; BMI 23.9 ± 2.7) had recovery period between days 6 and 8 in the survival training, whereas the EXC group (n = 42; age 19.6 ± 0.8 years; BMI 23.1 ± 2.8) did not. The following data were collected: body composition (bioimpedance), energy balance (food diaries, heart rate variability measurements), and biomarkers (blood samples). In survival training, estimated energy balance was highly negative: −4,323 ± 1,515 kcal/d (EXC) and −4,635 ± 1,742 kcal/d (REC). Be…
Physiological and physical performance changes during a 20-day winter military training course and its subsequent 10-day recovery period
2023
The present study investigated physiological, mental and physical performance changes during a 20-day winter military training course and the following 10-day recovery period. Fifty-eight (age 19 ± 1 years, height 182 ± 6 cm, body mass 78.5 ± 7.2 kg) male soldiers volunteered. Body composition, serum biomarker levels and performance tests were measured four times during the study. In addition, questionnaires were collected daily for subjective stress and rate of perceived exertion. The course induced significant declines in body (−3.9%, p < 0.05) and fat mass (−31.6%, p < 0.05) as well as in all assessed physical performance variables (−9.2 - −20.2%, p < 0.05), testosterone (−73.7%, p < 0.0…
