Throwaway knowledge, useful skills or a source for wellbeing? Outlining sustainability of workplace learning situations
2020
Rapid changes in working life have raised awareness of the need for lifelong learning among personnel, and there is increasing concern regarding the sustainability of such learning, especially in growth companies, where learning can be seen as a prerequisite for many work practices. Hence, the aim of this study is to understand the sustainability of learning situations from the perspectives of individual wellbeing, widespread use of previous knowledge and rapid application of new knowledge. We broaden the understanding of workplace learning from the perspective of sustainability by identifying different workplace learning situations and outlining the sustainability of these situations. Two …
Search for photons with energies above 1018 eV using the hybrid detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory
2017
A search for ultra-high energy photons with energies above 1 EeV is performed using nine years of data collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory in hybrid operation mode. An unprecedented separation power between photon and hadron primaries is achieved by combining measurements of the longitudinal air-shower development with the particle content at ground measured by the fluorescence and surface detectors, respectively. Only three photon candidates at energies 1-2 EeV are found, which is compatible with the expected hadron-induced background. Upper limits on the integral flux of ultra-high energy photons of 0.027, 0.009, 0.008, 0.008 and 0.007 km-2 sr-1 yr-1 are derived at 95% C.L. for ener…
Supportive Communication in the Workplace
2019
Supportive communication is a form of social interaction that produces resources with which to solve situational problems and manage emotional strain. Through the management of uncertainty, supportive communication enhances the perception of personal control over life events and strengthens the perception of acceptance. It is enacted in the seeking of support, in providing support, and in supportive listening as a form of emotional and informational support. In the workplace, supportive communication is crucially important: It promotes productive work and employees’ well-being as well as job satisfaction and engagement in the organization. This chapter presents the foundations of supportive…
Autophagy is induced by resistance exercise in young men but unfolded protein response is induced regardless of age
2018
Aim Autophagy and unfolded protein response (UPR) appear to be important for skeletal muscle homoeostasis and may be altered by exercise. Our aim was to investigate the effects of resistance exercise and training on indicators of UPR and autophagy in healthy untrained young men (n = 12, 27 ± 4 years) and older men (n = 8, 61 ± 6 years) as well as in resistance‐trained individuals (n = 15, 25 ± 5 years). Methods Indicators of autophagy and UPR were investigated from the muscle biopsies after a single resistance exercise bout and after 21 weeks of resistance training. Results Lipidated LC3II as an indicator of autophagosome content increased at 48 hours post‐resistance exercise (P < .05) and …
«Flest mulig, lengst mulig, best mulig» : En kvalitativ studie av trenere, spillere og foreldre som har hatt tilknytning til Bryne Fotballklubb G99
2019
Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap ME517 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Sports participation has for many led to positive youth development, while many want to be as good as possible in their sport. The purpose of this study is to investigate a soccer environment for boys whichhassucceeded in keeping children and young people active in the sport for a long time, and at the same timemany of the athletes have developed such good skills that they have reached the elite level. The study is a case study of a football team consisting of a cohort born in 1999 that has played in the football club Bryne, in the southwestofNorway. Ten people who have been associated with the environment have been interviewe…
Finnish athletes' expectations about physiotherapy in sport injury rehabilitation
2011
As the injured athlete's primary and most frequent contact within the sport injury rehabilitation process, the physiotherapist is in a unique position to influence the athlete's psychological rehabilitation alongside the physical recovery (Barefield & McCallister, 1997). The important question of whether or not athletes expect physiotherapists to address their psychological issues, however, has not yet been investigated in detail. Moreover, scales that measure athletes’ expectations of physiotherapy are also scarce and available only in the English language. Therefore, the purpose of this study was two-fold: 1) to adapt the Expectation About Athletic Training (EAAT) questionnaire into Finni…
How does a simulated soccer match affect regional differences in biceps femoris muscle architecture?
2017
Soccer is played by thousands of athletes across the globe and its participation increases the overall risk of injury, in particular, hamstring strain injuries (HSI). Biceps femoris (BF) has been shown to be involved the in 5 out of 6 HSI cases and risk factors including fatigue and short BF fascicle length (FL) have been identified. Furthermore, previous studies suggest that different muscle regions may undergo different strains during dynamic tasks, which could contribute to injury risk. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a soccer match on regional differences in the BF muscle architecture. A secondary aim was to assess the reliability of the extended field of vi…
Tendon length estimates are influenced by tracking location
2022
Abstract Purpose Measurement of medial gastrocnemius (MG) tendon length using ultrasonography (US) requires the muscle–tendon junction (MTJ) to be located. Previously, the MG MTJ has been tracked from different proximo-distal locations near the MTJ, which could influence estimates of tendon length change due to the different characteristics of the aponeurosis and tendon. We used US to evaluate the effect of tracking point location on MG MTJ displacement during maximal and submaximal (10, 20 and 30% of the non-injured maximal) isometric plantar flexion contractions. Methods Displacement behaviour of MTJ was tracked from (1) the exact MTJ; and (2) from an insertion point of a muscle fascicle …
The Effect of Moderate- Versus High-Intensity Resistance Training on Systemic Redox State and DNA Damage in Healthy Older Women
2018
This study investigated effects of a 16-week progressive resistance training program (RTP) with elastic bands at two different intensities on systemic redox state, DNA damage, and physical function in healthy older women. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to the high-intensity group (HIGH; n = 39), moderate-intensity group (MOD; n = 31), or control group (CG; n = 23). The exercise groups performed an RTP twice a week with three to four sets of 6 (HIGH) or 15 (MOD) repetitions of six overall body exercises at a perceived exertion rate of 8-9 on the OMNI-Resistance Exercise Scale for use with elastic bands. Thiol redox state was determined by reduced glutathione (GSH), oxidized glu…
Tietojärjestelmän käyttöönottoprosessi loppukäyttäjä- ja kehittäjätiedon pohjalta : tapaus Foster Wheeler Energia Oy
2014
Pro Gradu tutkimus käsittelee tietojärjestelmän käyttöönottoprosessia case yrityksen Foster Wheeler Energia Oy:n Engineering osastolla. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on löytää kahden käyttöönottoprosessin sekä kirjallisuuskatsauksen pohjalta tietojärjestelmän käyttöönottoprosessin Best Practice suositukset. Kohteena oleva tietojärjestelmä on case yrityksessä tarkoitus jalkauttaa neljään eri yksikköön maailmanlaajuisesti. Tutkimus on toteutettu tapaustutkimuksena laadullisin …
