Using Clicker Training and Social Observation to Teach Rats to Voluntarily Change Cages.
2018
Cage cleaning is a routinely performed husbandry procedure and is known to induce stress in laboratory rats. As stress can have a negative impact on well-being and can affect the comparability and reproducibility of research results, the amount of stress experienced by laboratory animals should be minimized and avoided when possible. Further, the direct contact between the rat and animal caretaker during the cage change bears hygiene risks and therefore possibly negatively impacts the well-being of the rats and the quality of the research. Our protocol aims to improve the routinely performed cage changing procedure. For this reason, we present a feasible protocol that enables rats to learn …

Effects of intensive therapy using gait trainer or floor walking exercises early after stroke.
2009
Objective: To analyse the effects of gait therapy for patients after acute stroke in a randomized controlled trial. Methods: Fifty-six patients with a mean of 8 days post-stroke participated in: (i) gait trainer exercise; (ii) walking training over ground; or (iii) conventional treatment. Patients in the gait trainer exercise and walking groups practiced gait for 15 sessions over 3 weeks and received additional physiotherapy. Functional Ambulatory Category and several secondary outcome measures assessing gait and mobility were administered before and after rehabilitation and at 6-month follow-up. Patients also evaluated their own effort. Results: Walking ability improved more with intensive…
Identification of the conceptual, procedural and attitudinaldimensions of scientific activity by trainee teachers
2021
Effective Teacher Training: Teacher Lectures in Comparison with Student Power Point Presentations
2013
National (dispositions of the Ministry of Education in Poland 2004, 2006) and international (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages 2001) documents provide many guidelines and suggestions about the competencies that foreign language teachers of today should develop to meet the desired standards and obtain the necessary qualifications. These qualifications comprise knowledge and a wide range of skills. The focus of this chapter is on knowledge since it is the foundation for the development of teaching skills and of a reflective approach to one’s teaching practices. In Polish tertiary education institutions the so-called “theoretical knowledge” has been imparted by means of lect…
Human resource development roles and competencies in five European countries
1998
This article compares HRD practitioners’ self-assessments based on their work roles, outputs and competencies from England, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Finland. The comparison is based on results produced by European surveys conducted between 1992–96, which adopted their model from an earlier study of HRD practitioners in the USA. In terms of work roles, the findings showed the culture-bound nature of HRD work and also, through the appearance of new work roles, its close relation to changes in working life. English and the Finnish HRD practitioners in particular, seemed to perceive themselves as agents of change while for the Germans, the role of trainer still seemed valid. In terms…
Adaptation and implementation of the German social-emotional learning programme Papilio in Finland : A pilot study
2019
This study investigated the cross‐national adaptation and implementation of Papilio, a German social–emotional learning programme, in Finnish early childhood education and care (ECEC) centres. Papilio is a developmentally focused, scientifically based intervention programme focused on preventing behavioural problems and fostering social–emotional competence in children aged 3–7. The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the cross‐national adaptation and cross‐cultural adaptation and implementation of Papilio in the Finnish ECEC context. Results from qualitative interviews with one Finnish Papilio trainer, 11 early childhood education (ECE) teachers, two ECE special education tea…
Somatic experience of emotion in emotionally focused couple therapy: Experienced trainer therapists' views and experiences.
2021
In general, arousal of emotions is often felt and expressed as a somatic experience in the body. In Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), the deepening of emotional experiencing enables therapeutic change. This research explores the experiences of eight experienced EFT trainer therapists regarding their somatic experiences in their work with couples. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis of transcribed in-depth interviews, this research data yielded three core themes that captured therapists' experiences of using their own and couples' somatic experiences in therapy: (1) the importance and relevance of somatic experiences, (2) therapists' use of their own somatic experiences, a…
