New solutions of preparation and activation of surfaces

2017

Organic coatings applied on the surface of cast iron pipes ensure very good chemical and anti-corrosion protection against aggressive effluents. To improve adherence between coating (epoxy) and substrate, a surface preparation is required. Among conventional processes shot blasting has emerged as the most efficient and cheapest solution for ensuring stripping while generating adapted roughness. However, as it may enhance both mechanical anchorage and chemical bonding a better understanding of these phenomena should be developed. Besides new eco-friendly alternatives were investigated.Indeed, new techniques were evaluated, i.e. laser structuring and an ultra-high pressure water jet whose maj…

The roles of teacher–student relationship quality and self-concept of ability in adolescents’ achievement emotions: temperament as a moderator

2020

AbstractThis study examined to what extent teacher–student conflict and closeness, on the one hand, and students’ self-concepts of ability in literacy and mathematics, on the other, are related to students’ achievement emotions (enjoyment, anxiety and boredom) in mathematics and literacy among Finnish early adolescents (N = 854). We also investigated the extent to which these associations are moderated by student temperament (surgency/extraversion, negative affectivity and effortful control). The results showed, after accounting for relevant covariates, that in both school subjects, teacher–student conflict was negatively related to enjoyment and positively to anxiety and boredom, whereas t…

Rare earth elements distribution in seawater and suspended particulate of the Central Mediterranean Sea

2004

Rare earth element (REE) content in suspended and dissolved phases from the Strait of Sicily (Central Mediterranean Sea) has been measured. Vertical profiles of several dissolved REEs along the water column reflect the 3-D oceanographic features of the studied area and identifies the different water masses present there. Shale-normalized REE distribution patterns and derived parameters calculated for the suspended particulate show different atmospheric dust-surface inputs and their interactions with seawater. Finally, combined information from [La/Yb]N, ratios, REE/La ratios and Eu anomalies measured in the suspended particulate suggest an important contribution of volcanic materials from t…

Who Is the Social Entrepreneur?

2021

Social entrepreneurs are understood as individuals integrated within a society, being continually influenced by the environment. This chapter explains that the constitution of a social entrepreneur is determined by external variables (environmental influences) and internal variables (characteristics of the individual). Among the external influences, we should highlight the Triple Bottom Line phenomenon, the Corporate Social Responsibility trend, technological advances and the Sustainable Development Goals. The intrinsic motivators would be divided into three different dimensions: attitude and intention, personality traits and leadership skills. The synergies produced as a consequence of the…

Genetic evidence for divergent selection onOenanthe conioidesandOe. aquatica(Apiaceae), a candidate case for sympatric speciation

2014

The opportunity for habitat shift in sympatry is thought to be an important factor in sympatric speciation by facilitating assortative mating and offering opportunities for divergent selection. Oenanthe conioides (Apiaceae) is a narrow endemic from the lower Elbe river area (Germany) where it is restricted to areas experiencing fresh water tides inundating the plants twice a day. The species was shown to have originated from Oe. aquatica which is widely distributed in Europe and grows in still or slowly flowing fresh water. Reciprocal transplant experiments have previously shown that in both habitats the non-native species is less fit than the native, and several phenotypic traits have been…

Le statue della “Porta Marmorea” di Siracusa

2022

Hypoplastic amelogenesis imperfecta with multiple impacted teeth - report of two cases

2010

Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI) represents a group of developmental conditions, genomic in origin, which affect the structure and clinical appearance of enamel of all or nearly all the teeth in a more or less equal manner. It is usually inherited either as an X-linked, autosomal dominant or autosomal recessive trait. The enamel may be hypoplastic, hypomineralised or both and affected teeth may be discolored, sensitive or prone to disintegration. Diagnosis is based on the family history, pedigree plotting and meticulous clinical observation. The treatment of patients with AI should start with early diagnosis and intervention to prevent latter restorative problems. Herein, we present two case re…

Team Feedback Intervention and Team Learning in Virtual Teams: A Moderated Mediation Model of Team Cohesion and Personality

2018

Part 2: ICT4D and Improvement of ICTs; International audience; Scholars and practitioners agree that virtual teams (VTs) have become commonplace in today’s digital workplace. Relevant literature argues that learning constitutes a significant contributor to team member satisfaction and performance, and that, at least in face-to-face teams, team cohesion fosters team learning. Given the additional challenges VTs face, e.g. geographical dispersion, which are likely to have a negative influence on cohesion, in this paper we shed light on the relationship between team cohesion and team learning. We adopted a quantitative approach and studied 54 VTs in our quest to understand the role of feedback…
