A disseminated model of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with prevalent liver metastasis was generated by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of EBV(+) B lymphoblastoid SKW6.4 in nude-SCID mice. The survival of SKW6.4 xenografts (median survival = 27 days) was significantly improved when hyaluronan scaffolds embedded with mesenchimal stem cells (MSC) were implanted in the abdominal area 4 days after SKW6.4 injection (median survival = 39.5 days). Mice implanted with MSC showed a significant improvement of hepatic functionality in lymphoma xenografts, as demonstrated by measurement of serum ALT/AST levels. Abstract Objective The aim of the study was to assess the role of midregional proadrenomedullin (MR-proADM) in patients with COVID-19. Methods We included 110 patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Biochemical biomarkers, including MR-proADM, were measured at admission. The association of plasma MR-proADM levels with COVID-19 severity, defined as a requirement for mechanical ventilation or in-hospital mortality, was evaluated. Results Patients showed increased levels of MR-proADM. Liver parenchymal cells from the periportal and centrilobular zones differ in their morphological, biochemical and functional characteristics. In an effort to obtain fractions enriched in either periportal or centrilobular cells, isolated rat liver parenchymal cells were separated into five subpopulations by centrifugal elutriation. The mean diameters of the cells present in fractions I-V were 19.6, 21.1, 21.8, 22.7 and 23.5 micron, respectively. To report on our large German collective and updated data of 142 patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) type 1.Key investigations performed were liver biopsy, serum autoantibodies as well as serum markers such as IgG and elevated transaminases. N metabolism was studied in young rats fed on lipid-rich, isonitrogenous, purified liquid diets, a convenient and easy technique for inducing voluntary overfeeding of energy and lipids under controlled nutritional conditions. Overfed rats showed a marked N retention at the expense of a reduced production of urea. The capacities of isolated hepatocytes to synthesize urea and glucose from added precursors were greatly diminished. BACKGROUND: Reports of liver injury in patients with novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are emerging from China and the USA. A wide variety of liver function test abnormalities and few cases of severe liver failure have been reported. No data on the hepatic phenotype from Europe are available at current. METHODS: We report a case series of 44 consecutive patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Germany. RESULTS: At the time of admission, aspartate aminotransferase greater than the upper limit of normal was present in 70%, while alanine aminotransferase was elevated in 15.8%.
