The airway epithelium is a dynamic tissue that undergoes slow but constant renewal. Dysregulation of airway epithelial cell function related to cigarette smoke (CS) exposure plays an important role in the pathophysiology of COPD. Oct-4 is the crucial POU domain transcription factor responsible for maintaining cellular self-renewal and regeneration, and CD146 and CD105 are adhesion molecule involved in cellular proliferation, differentiation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition and tissue remodelling. Repurposing of the ALK inhibitor crizotinib for acute leukemia and multiple myeloma cells

Crizotinib was a first generation of ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of ALK-positive non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients. COMPARE and cluster analyses of transcriptomic data of the NCI cell line panel indicated that genes with different cellular functions regulated the sensitivity or resistance of cancer cells to crizotinib. The L-glutamate transporters GLAST (EAAT1) and GLT-1 (EAAT2): expression and regulation in rat lactating mammary gland.

The Na(+)-dependent L-glutamate transporters GLAST (EAAT1) and GLT-1 (EAAT2), were expressed in rat lactating mammary gland, but EAAC1 (EAAT3) was not. GLT-1 expression in rat lactating mammary gland was constant in all the physiological situations studied; however, the GLAST expression is under tight regulation. Fasting for 24 h decreased the GLAST expression which returned to control values after refeeding. Weaning for 24 h produced a decrease in GLAST expression through a mechanism independent of prolactin deficiency. Resuckling for 6 h returned the expression of this transporter to control values. Circadian rhythm in NO synthase I transcript expression and its photoperiodic regulation in the rat pineal gland.

The photoneural regulation of nitric oxide synthase type I (NOS I) expression in the rat pineal was investigated using semiquantitative RT-PCR. NOS I transcript expression exhibited a daily rhythm with peak values during the night hours. The daily rhythm in NOS I transcript expression persisted under constant dark conditions and was abolished under constant light conditions. The extent of nocturnal NOS I expression was found to be dependent on the photoperiod. It was attenuated under 20 h light and 4 h dark (L:D 20:4) compared with 12 h light and 12 h dark (L:D 12:12). Limited studies have been carried out on the biotransformation of carboxyl nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in the liver. However, the role of the intestine in NSAID metabolism has not been investigated. In this report, the contribution of UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) in the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract from five donors to the glucuronidation of the NSAIDs, RS-ketoprofen, S-naproxen, RS- and S-etodolac, was investigated. Abstract Introduction To study the relationship between quantitative mRNA determination (hTERT) in patients with bladder tumor, history of bladder tumor, and in subjects without a history of this neoplasia.
