An induction motor speed measurement based on current harmonic analysis with Chirp-Z Transform
2002
The paper presents a new method to measure motor speed by means of frequency estimation of rotor slot harmonics present in the supply current of squirrel single cage induction motors. The novelty of the method is the use of Chirp-Z Transform as supply current harmonic analysis. The advantages are an improved spectral resolution and accuracy. Moreover a shorter sampling time window is required reducing errors related to not stationary current signal. Experimental results are presented to validate the proposed method and to perform a comparison with FFT based one.

Double-bounce scattering is assumed for fixed scatterers, while single-bounce scattering is considered fo…

A small scale prototype of a wave energy conversion system for hydrogen production
2015
In this paper a small scale prototype of sea wave energy converter for hydrogen production and storage is presented. Laboratory prototypes of the wave energy converter device and sea water electrolyzer are presented. Experimental results are shown. A cost-effective and efficient power electronics system is designed. Experimental waveforms of the wave energy converter are imported in the power electronics simulation model to simulate the whole system as closely as possible to its effective behavior. Simulation results are shown to test the efficiency of the proposed solution.
PMSM Drives Sensorless Position Control with Signal Injection and Neural Filtering
2009
Vector Field Oriented Control (FOC) is one of the best control methods for high-dynamic electrical drives. To avoid the adoption of the speed/position sensor (resolver/encoder), a sensorless technique should be used. Among the various sensorless methods in literature, those based on machine saliency detection by signal injection seem to be most useful for thier giving the possibility of closing the position control loop. This paper proposes a method for enhancing both rotating and pulsating voltage carrier injection methods by a neural adaptive band filter. Results show the goodness of the proposed solution.
Low stiffness variation in structural systems: identification and localization
2008
When a very low damage occurs, the undamaged structural response totally overlaps the damaged one either in time domain or in frequency domain; on the other hand, by considering some characteristics of the analytical signal, such as the phase, it has been possible to develop a damage identification procedure that allows the identification and localization of damage even if the structure experiences multiple damages at the same time. This procedure is also robust with respect to the presence of measuring noise. In order to assess the validity of the proposed damage identification procedure, numerical applications on single degree of freedom and 2 DOF and 4 DOF are presented using data record…
Design issues for wind farms grid tied Inverter
2017
In this paper the Authors give indications for the design of a grid tied Voltage Source Inverters (VSI) aimed to optimal use in energy conversion from wind source. In particular, the design of the inverter is more focused on the control system planning, with a particular glance on the grid synchronization problem. After the exposition of general issues concerning renewable energies and associated topics, the case of a grid tied inverter is considered and a methodology of design is sketched starting from the consideration of the DC side and also considering the power device losses, the protection issue against over voltages and over-currents, snubber circuits, heat sinks and, finally the con…
Medium Voltage Smart Grid: Experimental Analysis of Secondary Substation Narrow Band Power Line Communication
2013
This paper is focused on the possibility of employing narrow band power line communication (PLC) in medium voltage (MV) distribution networks. The topic is investigated by means of both simulations and experimental tests, which were carried out in the distribution network of Ustica Island. In detail, a two-way MV communication was tested between two secondary substations connected by an MV cable power line. Each substation has a by-pass connection at MV bus-bars and an MV/LV oil filled power transformer. In this paper, the MV and the PLC systems under test are described and the experimental tests are presented, which were carried out to evaluate the parameters of the simulation model. The a…
Multiresolution wavelet-based approach to identification of modal parameters of a vehicle full-scale crash test
2012
In this work estimation of vehicle modal parameters was achieved by application of a wavelet-based method. The time-frequency analysis, which comprises those techniques that study a signal in both the time and frequency domains simultaneously, using Morlet wavelet properties are applied to the measured acceleration pulse of the colliding vehicle. Determination of the ridge of the wavelet coefficients matrix makes it possible to identify the frequency components of the recorded crash pulse. Subsequently, by using the estimated natural frequency of the system, the values of damping factor for a given mode shape are assessed. In this work there are concerned both: the major frequencies of the …
Calculation of self and mutual inductances and 3-D magnetic fields of chokes with air gaps in core
2001
This work deals with the analysis of 3-D magnetic field in electric choke (reactor) with two windings. The analysis is related to the solutions of Laplace's and Poisson's equation by the Finite Element Method. The package OPERA-3d has been used. The self and mutual inductances of windings, which are connected in series aiding as well as in series opposing, have been determined. The calculation results of magnetic flux density components and the inductances are compared with the measured values.
