Adaptive Distance-Based Pooling in Convolutional Neural Networks for Audio Event Classification
2020
In the last years, deep convolutional neural networks have become a standard for the development of state-of-the-art audio classification systems, taking the lead over traditional approaches based on feature engineering. While they are capable of achieving human performance under certain scenarios, it has been shown that their accuracy is severely degraded when the systems are tested over noisy or weakly segmented events. Although better generalization could be obtained by increasing the size of the training dataset, e.g. by applying data augmentation techniques, this also leads to longer and more complex training procedures. In this article, we propose a new type of pooling layer aimed at …
The Co‐mutational Spectrum Determines the Therapeutic Response in Murine FGFR2 Fusion‐Driven Cholangiocarcinoma
2021
Background and aims Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is the second most common primary liver cancer and a highly lethal malignancy. Chemotherapeutic options are limited, but a considerable subset of patients harbors genetic lesions for which targeted agents exist. Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) fusions belong to the most frequent and therapeutically relevant alterations in ICC, and the first FGFR inhibitor was recently approved for the treatment of patients with progressed, fusion-positive ICC. Response rates of up to 35% indicate that FGFR-targeted therapies are beneficial in many but not all patients. Thus far, no established biomarkers exist that predict resistance or r…
Wavelet variance differences in atrial fibrillation during anaesthetic effect
2008
Effect of anaesthetic agents in restoration rhythm procedures during atrial fibrillation (AF) has not been fully investigated. We evaluated the effects of a widely used anaesthetic agent (propofol) in the fibrillation patterns. Intra-atrial recordings belong to 18 patients diagnosed with AF were analyzed ldquobeforerdquo (baseline) and ldquoduringrdquo anaesthetic infusion. The goal of this study is to characterize the variation in atrial properties along the atria in both states. The wavelet variance decomposes the variance of a time series on a scale by scale basis and hence has considerable appeal when physical phenomena are analyzed in terms of variations operating over a range of diffe…
Theoretical investigations of different excitation modes for Penning trap mass spectrometry
2013
Abstract In Penning trap mass spectrometry the motion of trapped ions is manipulated by external radio-frequency fields. This paper describes a general theoretical framework to classify the various types of excitation of the ion's motional modes, to identify the resonance frequencies, and to find the effective interaction Hamiltonians which are valid in the vicinity of the resonances. Instead of Cartesian or cylindrical coordinates and momenta our theoretical approach uses the complex oscillator amplitudes of the cyclotron, magnetron, and axial oscillators as its basic dynamical variables. Equations of motion are set up, which can be simplified in the vicinity of resonances by the resonatin…
Elastic Wave Near-Cloaking
2020
Cloaking elastic waves has, in contrast to the cloaking of electromagnetic waves, remained a fundamental challenge: the latter successfully uses the invariance of Maxwell's equations, from which the field of transformational optics has emerged, whereas the elastic Navier equations are not invariant under coordinate transformations. Our aim is to overcome this challenge, at least in practical terms, and thereby unlock applications in mechanics, ultrasound, vibration mitigation, non-destructive evaluation and elastic wave control. We achieve near-cloaking by recognising that, despite the lack of invariance, a decoupling into a system of form invariant potential equations together with a quant…

Fair Planning and Affordability Housing in Urban Policy. The Case of Syracuse (Italy)
2016
Equalization can be implemented in the planning process by means of several tools. The Syracuse’s Master Plan has used “urban negotiation” to obtain land for facilities and public infrastructure in different urban areas basing on the rule of the transfer of a portion of land in return for the building permission for the remaining part of each property to be developed. The Master Plan also aimed at providing social housing because the economic crisis has amplified the gap between housing market prices and household income. This study proposes an equalization and compensation model to support the urban negotiation for providing the indexes of a fair and convenient development of several inter…
Finite propagation speed for solutions of the wave equation on metric graphs
2012
We provide a class of self-adjoint Laplace operators on metric graphs with the property that the solutions of the associated wave equation satisfy the finite propagation speed property. The proof uses energy methods, which are adaptions of corresponding methods for smooth manifolds.
On the convergence of a finite volume method for the Navier–Stokes–Fourier system
2020
Abstract The goal of the paper is to study the convergence of finite volume approximations of the Navier–Stokes–Fourier system describing the motion of compressible, viscous and heat-conducting fluids. The numerical flux uses upwinding with an additional numerical diffusion of order $\mathcal O(h^{ \varepsilon +1})$, $0<\varepsilon <1$. The approximate solutions are piecewise constant functions with respect to the underlying polygonal mesh. We show that the numerical solutions converge strongly to the classical solution as long as the latter exists. On the other hand, any uniformly bounded sequence of numerical solutions converges unconditionally to the classical solution of t…
Lāzer-inducētās fluorescences pāreju no A-b kompleksa uz (1)3Sigma(+) stāvokli novērošana un analīze RbCs molekulā
2019
