Active learning in the process of educational change

2005

Abstract The findings reported in this article form part of a wider comparative research project investigating the active learning of teachers and of pupils in the educational practices of eight countries. This article aims to describe what a small rural school in Finland understands by active learning. Data is presented from a qualitative research case study of one school in relation to six aspects: goal setting, task structuring, accessing of information, processing of work and learning, utilizing the outcomes of work and learning, and assessment procedures. On the basis of the data, the transformative learning process of teacher in the changing school culture is presented.

The first silver(I) nitrate π-complexes with unsaturated organosilicons: Synthesis and structural characterization of [Ag(DADPS)xNO3] (DADPS=diallyld…

2011

Abstract Tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (tetraglyme) was used for the first time to induce the activation of silver nitrate resulting in the step-by-step formation of complexes with diallyldiphenylsilane (DADPS). Two crystal compounds of this series were examined by FTIR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The analysis of the obtained data showed that the Ag (C C) η 2 -interaction is involved in the synergistic effect of intra and intermolecular forces. In particular the interlayer π–π stacking interactions promoted by asymmetric weak Ag C(phenyl) bond have a significant influence on the thermal behavior and stability of the synthesized products. It was also found that a decrease of si…

Quantitative analysis of mixtures of metal-carbonyl complexes by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy: application to the simultaneous double immu…

1996

Abstract The feasibility of a double immunoassay of haptens by the nonisotopic carbonyl metalloimmunoassay (CMIA) method is demonstrated. Three different pairings of antiepileptic medications from the groups carbamazepine, diphenylhydantoin, and phenobarbital (for each of which a mono-CMIA is already available) were assayed by double CMIA. The assay method employs as tracers metal–carbonyl complexes that give very strong signals in the range of 1850–2200 cm −1 in the infrared spectrum, permitting quantitative analysis by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The fact that the signals are individually assignable and of comparable intensity permits quantitative analysis of mixtures of two …

Time-Dependent Correlation and Response Functions

2014

The dynamics of liquids is discussed with the help of time-dependent correlation functions. They are related to response functions by the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. This theorem enables to relate experimentally measured inelastic scattering data to the Fourier-transformed correlation and response functions. The Laplace transform of the correlation functions can be represented as a continuous fraction with suitable residual terms (memory functions). The projection formalism of Mori and Zwanzig is introduced.

PSC; Current Status and Implications for Future Research

2019

The present chapter reviews all previous chapters of this book. Overall, the chapters offered many new perspectives on PSC research and practice. The validity and usefulness of the PSC concept was applied in Malaysia, Australia, and Iran, and for the first time in Canada and Germany, and in occupations (humanitarian work, university personnel) not investigated previously. This has been demonstrated in a series of qualitative studies (Biron et al., 2019, Chap. 15; Ertel & Formazin, 2019, Chap. 13; Loh et al., 2019, Chap. 9; Potter et al., 2019, Chap. 10). Several chapters introduced new conceptual or measurement related ideas, including the PSC as part of the broader concept of organisationa…

MOJAVE: Monitoring of Jets in Active Galactic Nuclei with VLBA Experiments. VI. Kinematics Analysis of a Complete Sample of Blazar Jets

2009

We discuss the jet kinematics of a complete flux-density-limited sample of 135 radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN) resulting from a 13 year program to investigate the structure and evolution of parsec-scale jet phenomena. Our analysis is based on new 2 cm Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) images obtained between 2002 and 2007, but includes our previously published observations made at the same wavelength, and is supplemented by VLBA archive data. In all, we have used 2424 images spanning the years 1994-2007 to study and determine the motions of 526 separate jet features in 127 jets. The data quality and temporal coverage (a median of 15 epochs per source) of this complete AGN jet sample r…

A synthesis of feasible control methods for floating offshore wind turbine system dynamics

2021

Abstract During the past decade, the development of offshore wind energy has transitioned from near shore with shallow water to offshore middle-depth water regions. Consequently, the energy conversion technology has shifted from bottom-fixed wind turbines to floating offshore wind turbines. Floating offshore wind turbines are considered more suitable, but their cost is still very high. One of the main reasons for this is that the system dynamics control method is not well-adapted, thereby affecting the performance and reliability of the wind turbine system. The additional motion of the platform tends to compromise the system’s performance in terms of power maximization, power regulation, an…

El papel de los conjuntos conventuales en la renovación ur bana de Palermo en la época de la Contrarreforma

2014

In a city like Palermo, ancient capital of the Reign of Sicily, the effect of new religious complexes born from the catholic politic of the Counter-Reformation, was sudden and explosive, and it caused, between the second half of the16th century and the first of the 17th century, a process of urban renewal never seen before. The essay means to analyze, first of all, the architectural interventions from a quantitative point of view, so to render the real dimension of the phenomenon and of the role it played in the destruction of the medieval city and the creation of the modern one, triggering un uninterrupted state of conflict between the new religious settlements and the owners of the near b…

The body-mind problem from a personality relativity theory approach: (Relativity of personality)

2012

The body-mind problem is here posed fromthe General Factor of Personality Theory and mathematically presented as a relativity theory: 1. A two-level-invariant model; 2. The transformation equation between both levels. On a hand, the investigation of personality dynamicsas a consequenceof a stimulant drug provides a system of two coupled differential equations, which adapts to both biological (body) and psychological (mind)levels ofdescription. On the other hand, a system of two coupled partial differential equations is here deduced as the transformation model between the biological and psychological levels. Both models are presented and validated in this paper. The experimental design to va…
