Global conservative and multipeakon conservative solutions for the modified camassa-holm system with coupling effects
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/606249 This paper investigates the continuation of solutions to the modified coupled two-component Camassa-Holm system after wave breaking. The underlying problem is rather challenging due to the mutual coupling effect between two components in the system. By introducing a novel transformation that makes use of a skillfully defined characteristic and a set of newly defined variables, the original system is converted into a Lagrangian equivalent system, from which the global conservative solution is obtained, which further allows for the e…
Search for anomalous Wtb couplings in single top quark production
2008
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T20:46:40Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-11-25 Science and Technology Facilities Council In 0.9fb-1 of pp̄ collisions, the D0 Collaboration presented evidence for single top quark production in events with an isolated lepton, missing transverse momentum, and two to four jets. We examine these data to study the Lorentz structure of the Wtb coupling. The standard model predicts a left-handed vector coupling at the Wtb vertex. The most general lowest dimension, CP-conserving Lagrangian admits right-handed vector and left- or right-handed tensor couplings as well. We find that the data prefer the left-handed vector coupling and set u…
Force probe simulations using a hybrid scheme with virtual sites.
2017
Hybrid simulations, in which a part of the system is treated with atomistic resolution and the remainder is represented on a coarse-grained level, allow for fast sampling while using the accuracy of atomistic force fields. We apply a hybrid scheme to study the mechanical unfolding and refolding of a molecular complex using force probe molecular dynamics (FPMD) simulations. The degrees of freedom of the solvent molecules are treated in a coarse-grained manner while atomistic resolution is retained for the solute. The coupling between the solvent and the solute is provided using virtual sites. We test two different common coarse-graining procedures, the iterative Boltzmann inversion method an…
Linear transform for simultaneous diagonalization of covariance and perceptual metric matrix in image coding
2003
Two types ofredundancies are contained in images: statistical redundancy and psychovisual redundancy. Image representation techniques for image coding should remove both redundancies in order to obtain good results. In order to establish an appropriate representation, the standard approach to transform coding only considers the statistical redundancy, whereas the psychovisual factors are introduced after the selection ofthe representation as a simple scalar weighting in the transform domain. In this work, we take into account the psychovisual factors in the de8nition of the representation together with the statistical factors, by means of the perceptual metric and the covariance matrix, res…

The development of reflective learning in the context of health counselling and health promotion during nurse education.
2001
The development of reflective learning in the context of health counselling and health promotion during nurse education Aims and background. The purpose of this follow-up study was to describe the development of reflective learning of 16 student nurses in the context of health counselling and promotion during clinical training of a 3-year nursing education programme in two Finnish polytechnics. The first aim was to analyse the levels of reflectivity in the student nurses’ reflections on their videotaped counselling situations. The second aim was to explore the qualitative features of the reflective health counselling learning process in the context of health promotion. The theoretical backg…
Removal of Escherichia coli from Saturated Sand Columns Supplemented with Hydrochar Produced from Maize
2014
Despite numerous studies on hydrochar use, its application in water treatment for pathogen removal remains unexplored. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency of hydrochar produced from crop residue of maize for water treatment by determining Escherchia coli breakthrough from sand columns supplemented with hydrochar. To enhance the adsorptive capacity, raw hydrochar was activated by 1 mol L⁻¹ KOH at room temperature. The experiments conducted in a 10-cm sand bed with 1.5% (w/w) activated and raw hydrochar supplements, not activated by KOH, showed 93 and 72% of E. coli removal efficiencies, respectively. Activation of KOH not only enhanced the E. coli removal but also increased the streng…
Complexation behaviour of hexadentate ligands possessing N2O4and N2O2S2cores: differential reactivity towards Co(ii), Ni(ii) and Zn(ii) salts and str…
2004
Reactions of divalent metal salts of Co, Ni and Zn with 1,2-di(salicylaldimino-o-phenylthio) ethane (H2L1) and 1,2-di(naphthaldimino-o-phenylthio) ethane (H2L2), having N2O2S2 cores, and 1,2-di(O-salicylaldimino-o-hydroxyphenyl) ethane (H2L3), having a N2O4 core, have been explored. Out of the three ligands and the nine products obtained from the corresponding reactions, two ligands and seven products were crystallographically characterized. However, all the ligands and the products were characterized by analytical and spectral methods. Reaction of H2L1 and H2L2 with Co(II) salts results in oxidative cleavage of the C-S bond to produce a Co(III) product bound to two dissimilar tridentate li…
FTIR Microscopy with Polarized Radiation for the Analysis of Adsorption Processes in Molecular Sieves
1994
FTIR Microscopy with polarized light was used to study the orientation of different molecules in Silicalite I, SAPO-5 and AlPO 4 -5 molecular sieves during the adsorption process and in their equilibrium positions. While the uptake and the equilibrium positions of p-xylene are essentially not influenced by the the framework charge, large differences between AlPO 4 -5 and SAPO-5 are observed with the strongly basic p-nitroaniline molecule.
