International audience; Lithium iodate (LiIO3) exists at room temperature either as hexagonal (alpha) or tetragonal (beta) crystals. Beta-LiIO3 is stable up to the melting point, whereas alpha-LiIO3 is known to undergo phase transitions. We have studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA) the sequence of phase transitions occurring on powders prepared by different processes. An alpha-LiIO3 powder obtained by grinding a single crystal exhibits the well-known transformations alpha-gamma-beta. A powder obtained by fast evaporation of an aqueous solution transforms directly the alpha to the beta and does not exhibit any intermediate gamma phase. In this work, we compare experimental data on myoglobin hydrated powders from elastic neutron scattering, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. Our aim is to obtain new insights on the connection between the protein dynamical transition, a fundamental phenomenon observed in proteins whose physical origin is highly debated, and the liquid-liquid phase transition (LLPT) possibly occurring in protein hydration water and related to the existence of a low temperature critical point in supercooled water. Carbon nitride as photocatalyst in organic selective transformations

Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a metal-free conjugated polymer which has become a new research hotspot in photocatalysis. It can be used for solar energy exploitation like in solar energy organic synthesis, one of the most new and appealing green applications of heterogeneous photocatalysis. This chapter resumes the state-of-the-art and progresses in the application of heterogeneous visible light photocatalysis in organic selective transformations by using C3N4 as photocatalyst.
Five-to-Six Membered Ring-rearrangements in the Reaction of 5-Perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles with Hydrazine and Methylhydrazine

The hydrazinolysis reaction of 5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles with hydrazine or methylhydrazine as bidentate nucleophiles has been investigated. The reaction occurred through the addition of the bidentate nucleophile to the C(5)-N(4) double bond of the 1,2,4-oxadiazole followed by ring-opening and ring-closure (ANRORC) involving the second nucleophilic site of the reagent. This ring-closure step could involve either the original C(3) of the 1,2,4-oxadiazole (giving a five-to-five membered ring rearrangement) or an additional electrophilic center linked to it (exploiting a five-to-six membered ring rearrangement). Over the centuries the dominant presence of convents and monasteries determined various aspects of the city, urban development being one of them.
