High-resolution seismic profiles were acquired in the north Sicily offshore region with an innovative, multi-tip sparker array which lacks ringing and has a base frequency around 600 Hz. The new data, combined with published data, suggest that intra-slope and extensional basins formed as a consequence of the late Miocene (?)–early Pliocene shortening and thrusting, and the middle (?)–late Pliocene continental rifting affecting the internal side of the Sicilian-Maghrebian chain. Abstract The bryozoan-rich lower Tortonian carbonates of the Agua Amarga Basin in southern Spain (Province of Almeria) provide an example of sediments formed in a nearshore, non-tropical depositional setting. Based on data derived from logging of sections and from field mapping, these lower Tortonian carbonates form a depositional sequence, which is subdivided into several depositional systems. In this article, I explore transgressive experience by embracing my personal encounters with art and life. In accordance with a phenomenological approach, I emphasize immediate experience, description, and analysis of the world as a source of knowledge and understanding. From the perspective both of art education and research, I attempt to show the enslaving effect of conventions. Furthermore, I trace and lay bare the origins of my transgressive experience from a methodological viewpoint by describing and interpreting the moments and threads that link them with time, place, and situations, thus making transparent my actions as a researcher.
