Towards a Coming Together of Transhumanism and Play

We note a trend on utilizing interactive technology to extend human capacities through bodily cyborg-like integrations such as artificial limbs and implantables. This trend is often captured by the term "transhumanism", referring to the use of technology to extend human capacities. We find that many transhuman discussions appear to focus on instrumental benefits (i.e. exploiting opportunities to be more productive). We extend this by proposing engagement with transhumanism also from a perspective of "play". We reflect on our own and other's work to articulate three strategies for game designers on how they can engage with transhumanism when aiming to facilitate playful experiences. Ultimate…

Przedmiotem artykułu są teoriopolityczne rozważania na temat posthumanizmu. Jest to podejście, które zrywa z humanistycznym dogmatem, że człowiek jest bytem najważniejszym w rzeczywistości. Zamiast tego posthumanizm dowartościowuje byty pozaludzkie (naturalne, sztuczne, rzeczy), z którymi ludzie wchodzą w rozmaite interakcje. Se ha convertido en habitual afirmar que en la postmodernidad la utopía deja de ser viable. No es cierto. La postmodernidad produce sus propias utopías. Al examen del transhumanismo, quizás la más representativa de ellas, se presta este artículo. Objeto rector de estudio, las vicisitudes del cuerpo en la utopía citada. It has turned into a common fact to state that utopia in postmodernity is no longer feasible. It’s no true. Postmodernity produces it’s own utopies. This article focouses in the study of transhumanism, wich is probably the most representative among them. The guiding object of research will be the vicissitudes of the body in the quoted utopia.

Abstract Social implementation of post-humanism could affect the biological evolution of living beings and especially that of humans. This paper addresses the issue from the biological and anthropological-philosophical perspectives. From the biological perspective, reference is made first to the evolution of hominids until the emergence of Homo sapiens, and secondly, to the theories of evolution with special reference to their scientific foundation and the theory of extended heredity.
