OMC: An Optical Monitoring Camera for INTEGRAL

The INTEGRAL payload has been designed to study simultaneously gamma-ray sources in a wide field of view over many decades in energy (around 2 eV + 4 keV − 20 MeV) and thus make a major contribution to short time-scale high-energy astrophysics. The OMC will observe the optical emission from the prime targets of the gamma-ray instruments with the support of the x-ray monitor. This capability will provide invaluable diagnostic information on the nature and the physics of the sources over a broad wavelength range. Rigidity and Dynamics of Random Spring Networks

The static and dynamic elastic properties of two-dimensional random networks composed of Hookean springs are analyzed. These networks are proved to be nonrigid with respect to small deformations, and the floppy mode ratio is calculated exactly. The vibrational spectrum is shown to consist only of zero-frequency and localized modes. The exponential decay of the amplitude and velocity of the transient wave front are shown to be exactly described by a quasi-one-dimensional model of noninteracting paths of propagation.

The receiving of seismic waves by multiple geophones (geophone-group) is described by a system of coupled differential equations considering only effective resistances. For so-called symmetrical connections of the geophone-group which are used in practice nearly in all cases, a method can be given for solving this system of differential equations. Numerical simulations of the jetted tidal disruption event Swift J1644+57

In this work we focus on the technical details of the numerical simulations of the non- thermal transient Swift J1644+57, whose emission is probably produced by a two-component jet powered by a tidal disruption event. In this context we provide details of the coupling between the relativistic hydrodynamic simulations and the radiative transfer code. First, we consider the technical demands of one-dimensional simulations of a fast relativistic jet, and show to what extent (for the same physical parameters of the model) do the computed light curves depend on the numerical parameters of the different codes employed. Finite difference time domain simulation of soil ionization in grounding systems under lightning surge conditions

This paper proposes a Maxwell’s equations finite difference time domain (FDTD) approach for electromagnetic transients in ground electrodes in order to take into account the non linear effects due to soil ionization. A time variable soil resistivity method is used in order to simulate the soil breakdown, without the formulation of an initial hypothesis about the geometrical shape of the ionized zone around the electrodes. TRANSIENT DYNAMICS AND ASYMPTOTIC POPULATIONS IN A DRIVEN METASTABLE QUANTUM SYSTEM

The transient dynamics of a periodically driven metastable quantum system, interacting with a heat bath, is investigated. The time evolution of the populations, within the framework of the Feynman–Vernon influ- ence functional and in the discrete variable representation, is analyzed by varying the parameters of the external driving. The results display strong non-monotonic behaviour of the populations with respect to the driving frequency.

Aging effects manifested in the potential-energy landscape of a model glass former

We present molecular dynamics simulations of a model glass-forming liquid (the binary Kob-Anderson Lennard-Jones model) and consider the distributions of inherent energies and metabasins during aging. In addition to the typical protocol of performing a temperature jump from a high temperature to a low destination temperature, we consider the temporal evolution of the distributions after an 'up-jump', i.e. from a low to a high temperature. In this case the distribution of megabasin energies exhibits a transient two-peak structure. Discovery and Identification of MAXI J1621-501 as a Type I X-Ray Burster with a Super-orbital Period

MAXI J1621-501 is the first Swift/XRT Deep Galactic Plane Survey transient that was followed up with a multitude of space missions (NuSTAR, Swift, Chandra, NICER, INTEGRAL, and MAXI) and ground-based observatories (Gemini, IRSF, and ATCA). The source was discovered with MAXI on 2017 October 19 as a new, unidentified transient. Further observations with NuSTAR revealed 2 Type I X-ray bursts, identifying MAXI J1621-501 as a Low Mass X-ray Binary (LMXB) with a neutron star primary. Overall, 24 Type I bursts were detected from the source during a 15 month period. Time-dependent Landauer-Büttiker formula for transient dynamics

We solve analyti ally the Kadano Baym equations for a nonintera ting jun tion onne ted to an arbitrary number of nonintera ting wide-band terminals. The initial equilibrium state is properly des ribed by the addition of an imaginary tra k to the time ontour. From the solution we obtain the time-dependent ele tron densities and urrents within the jun tion. The nal results are analyti expressions as a fun tion of time, and therefore no time propagation is needed either in transient or in steady-state regimes. Numerical study of emission and dynamics from a TDE-powered jet

A transient event Swift J1644+57 is thought to be caused by the emission from a collimated relativistic jet. The jet, powered by the sudden onset of accretion onto a supermassive black hole following the tidal disruption of a star, collides with the gaseous circumnuclear medium and produces forward and reverse shocks which emit synchrotron radiation. We perform 1D and 2D relativistic hydrodynamic simulations using the MRGENESIS code.
