EFFECTS OF COLORED NOISE IN SHORT OVERDAMPED JOSEPHSON JUNCTION

2008

We investigate the transient dynamics of a short overdamped Josephson junction with a periodic driving signal in the presence of colored noise. We analyze noise induced henomena, specifically resonant activation and noise enhanced stability. We find that the positions both of the minimum of RA and maximum of NES depend on the value of the noise correlation time tau_c. Moreover, in the range where RA is observed, we find a non-monotonic behavior of the mean switching time as a function of the correlation time tau_c.

Relaxation, postponement, and features of the attractor in a driven varactor oscillator

1990

The driven varactor oscillator is investigated by numerical integration of its ODEs using the standard model of circuit theory. Attention is given to some properties of the basic relaxation mechanism. For time dependent amplitudes of the sinusoidal driving voltage the post-ponement of the bifurcations is characterized by transient Lyapunov numbers. The postponement of the first bifurcation shows the same dependence on the sweep velocity as in the case of the nonautonomous quadratic map. The shapes of the attractors are displayed in extended phase space. Generalized Renyi-dimensionsD 0 andD 1 have been determined in the chaotic region. A corresponding twodimensional Pioncare map indicates se…

Derivation of transient relativistic fluid dynamics from the Boltzmann equation for a multi-component system

2012

We derive the non-equilibrium single-particle momentum distribution function of a hadron resonance gas. We then study the effects that this newly derived expression can have in the freeze-out description of fluid-dynamical models of heavy ion collisions and compare it with the method traditionally employed, the 14-moment approximation.

BeppoSAX observation of the transient X-ray pulsar GS 1843+009

1999

Abstract The transient X-ray pulsar GS 1843+009 was observed by BeppoSAX satellite on 1997 April 4, while it was at flux level of 50 mCrab in the 20–200 keV energy band. Using the MECS and LECS concentrators, the source position was measured with unprecedented accuracy of 30. In this poster we present results on both spectral and temporal analysis.

The INTEGRAL experiment

1998

The International Gamma-ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) is conceived as the next logical step in gamma-ray astronomy after the US Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) and the French/Russian SIGMA mission. The INTEGRAL scientific payload consists of two main instruments (Imager and Spectrometer) and two monitor instruments (X-Ray Monitor and Optical Transient Camera). The INTEGRAL spectrometer "SPI" is optimized for detailed measurements of gamma-ray lines and mapping of diffuse sources. It combines a coded aperture mask with an array of large volume, high-purity germanium detectors. The detectors make precise measurements of the gamma-ray energies over the 20 keV-8 MeV energy range. …

The Be/X-ray Transient V0332+53: Evidence for a tilt between the orbit and the equatorial plane?

1999

We present optical and infrared observations of BQ Cam, the optical counterpart to the Be/X-ray transient system V0332+53. BQ Cam is shown to be an O8-9Ve star, which places V0332+53 at a distance of ~7 kpc. H-alpha spectroscopy and infrared photometry are used to discuss the evolution of the circumstellar envelope. Due to the low inclination of the system, parameters are strongly constrained. We find strong evidence for a tilt of the orbital plane with respect to the circumstellar disc (pressumably on the equatorial plane). Even though the periastron distance is only ~ 10 R_*, during the present quiescent state the circumstellar disc does not extend to the distance of periastron passage. U…

Transient spatio-temporal domain patterns in permalloy microstructures induced by fast magnetic field pulses

2006

The response of multidomain flux-closure structures (Landau states) in micrometer-scale magnetic thin-film elements upon fast magnetic field pulses leads to the excitation of magnetic eigenmodes and to short-lived domain patterns that do not occur in quasi-static remagnetisation. Such transient spatio-temporal patterns and particular detail features are discussed. Examples are presented for permalloy platelets of various shapes and sizes. Dynamic series of domain patterns with variable delay between field pulse and photon pulse (synchrotron radiation) have been taken using stroboscopic XMCD-PEEM. Precessional remagnetisation starts at the domain boundaries. The damped precessional motion pr…

Classification methods for noise transients in advanced gravitational-wave detectors II: performance tests on Advanced LIGO data

2017

The data taken by the advanced LIGO and Virgo gravitational-wave detectors contains short duration noise transients that limit the significance of astrophysical detections and reduce the duty cycle of the instruments. As the advanced detectors are reaching sensitivity levels that allow for multiple detections of astrophysical gravitational-wave sources it is crucial to achieve a fast and accurate characterization of non-astrophysical transient noise shortly after it occurs in the detectors. Previously we presented three methods for the classification of transient noise sources. They are Principal Component Analysis for Transients (PCAT), Principal Component LALInference Burst (PC-LIB) and W…

Temporal and spatial persistence of combustion fronts in paper

2003

The spatial and temporal persistence, or first-return distributions are measured for slow-combustion fronts in paper. The stationary temporal and (perhaps less convincingly) spatial persistence exponents agree with the predictions based on the front dynamics, which asymptotically belongs to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class. The stationary short-range and the transient behavior of the fronts are non-Markovian, and the observed persistence properties thus do not agree with the predictions based on Markovian theory. This deviation is a consequence of additional time and length scales, related to the crossovers to the asymptotic coarse-grained behavior. Peer reviewed

A Very Large Area Telescope for γ-Ray Astronomy Above 100 MeV Employing Limited Streamer Tubes

1994

A new detector for γ-ray astronomy above 100 MeV is described in which the electron-positron pairs are tracked by means of a set of plane arrays of Limited Streamer Tubes. This technique allows to build up very large area experiments which are specifically useful to study variable or transient sources.
