Literal translation in the audiovisual field. Methods and techniques

2017

The debate on literal translation is an old one, and it will surely continue to exist for the time to come. In any case, it is not intended to address that discussion here, but rather to take a descriptive, nonjudgmental look at the matter for the sole purpose of pointing out the need for more precise terminology when speaking about literal translation, especially in translation teaching. As it will be explained, literal translation can be both a translation method and a translation technique and it seems appropriate to be aware of what we mean exactly when we use this label. Moreover, as it will be shown, the positions in either direction (method or technique) remain in force, although the…

Między estetyką a lingwistyką. Koncepcja ewaluacji jakości tłumaczenia według Sigrid Kupsch - Losereit a przekład literacki

2019

Correlations in palmitoylation and multiple phosphorylation of rat bradykinin B2 receptor in Chinese hamster ovary cells.

1999

Rat bradykinin B2 receptor from unstimulated Chinese hamster ovary cells transfected with the corresponding cDNA has been isolated, and subsequent mass spectrometric analysis of multiple phosphorylated species and of the palmitoylation attachment site is described. Bradykinin B2 receptor was isolated on oligo(dT)-cellulose using N-(epsilon-maleimidocaproyloxy)succinimide-Met-Lys-bradykinin coupled to a protected (dA)30-mer. This allowed a one-step isolation of the receptor on an oligo(dT)-cellulose column via variation solely of salt concentration. After enzymatic in-gel digestion, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization and electrospray ion trap mass spectrometric analysis of the isola…

Fermion pairing with spin-density imbalance in an optical lattice

2006

We consider pairing in a two-component atomic Fermi gas, in a three-dimensional optical lattice, when the components have unequal densities, i.e. the gas is polarized. We show that a superfluid where the translational symmetry is broken by a finite Cooper pair momentum, namely an FFLO-type state, minimizes the Helmholtz free energy of the system. We demonstrate that such a state is clearly visible in the observable momentum distribution of the atoms, and analyze the dependence of the order parameter and the momentum distribution on the filling fraction and the interaction strength.

Spin-S Kagome quantum antiferromagnets in a field with tensor networks

2016

Spin-$S$ Heisenberg quantum antiferromagnets on the Kagome lattice offer, when placed in a magnetic field, a fantastic playground to observe exotic phases of matter with (magnetic analogs of) superfluid, charge, bond or nematic orders, or a coexistence of several of the latter. In this context, we have obtained the (zero temperature) phase diagrams up to $S=2$ directly in the thermodynamic limit thanks to infinite Projected Entangled Pair States (iPEPS), a tensor network numerical tool. We find incompressible phases characterized by a magnetization plateau vs field and stabilized by spontaneous breaking of point group or lattice translation symmetry(ies). The nature of such phases may be se…

Translationally invariant coupled cluster method in coordinate space for nuclei

2002

We study a formulation of the translationally invariant coupled cluster method in coordinate space for finite nuclei. The new formulation remedies convergence problems that plagued previous calculations in configuration space. The method is applied to light nuclei using semi-realistic central interactions.

On the observability of Bell's inequality violation in the two-atoms optical Stern-Gerlach model

2005

Using the optical Stern-Gerlach model, we have recently shown that the non-local correlations between the internal variables of two atoms that successively interact with the field of an ideal cavity in proximity of a nodal region are affected by the atomic translational dynamics. As a consequence, there can be some difficulties in observing violation of the Bell's inequality for the atomic internal variables. These difficulties persist even if the atoms travel an antinodal region, except when the spatial wave packets are exactly centered in an antinodal point.

Simulating a quantum commensurate-incommensurate phase transition using two Raman-coupled one-dimensional condensates

2020

We study a transition between a homogeneous and an inhomogeneous phase in a system of one-dimensional, Raman tunnel-coupled Bose gases. The homogeneous phase shows a flat density and phase profile, whereas the inhomogeneous ground state is characterized by periodic density ripples, and a soliton staircase in the phase difference. We show that under experimentally viable conditions the transition can be tuned by the wavevector difference $Q$ of the Raman beams and can be described by the Pokrovsky-Talapov model for the relative phase between the two condensates. Local imaging available in atom chip experiments allows to observe the soliton lattice directly, while modulation spectroscopy can …

Translationally invariant treatment of pair correlations in nuclei - II. Tensor correlations

1998

We study the extension of our translationally invariant treatment of few-body nuclear systems to include tensor forces and correlations. It is shown that a direct application of our method is not as successful for realistic V6 interactions as our previous results for V4 potentials suggested. We investigate the cause in detail for the case of $^4$He, and show that a combination of our method with that of Jastrow-correlated wave functions seems to be a lot more powerful, thereby suggesting that for mildly to strongly repulsive forces such a hybrid procedure may be an appropriate description.

Orbital dimerization in NaTiSi2O6: An orbital analogue of the spin-Peierls phase transition

2004

We measure the Raman scattering spectra of NaTiSi2O6, analyze the vibrational properties, and study the origin of the phase transition in this compound. In this quasi-one-dimensional S = 1/2 system we observe anomalous high-temperature phonon broadenings, and large changes of the phonon energies and line-widths across the phase transition temperature of 210 K. These results, combined with theoretical considerations, indicate that the phonon anomalies originate from an orbital order-disorder type of phase transition. We find that the high temperature dynamical Jahn-Teller phase of NaTiSi2O6 exhibits a spontaneous breaking of translational symmetry into a dimerized, Jahn-Teller distorted, orb…
